Gladwin Dispersed Camping Area is a free boondocking and primitive camping location in West Virginia. In this video, we visit the Gladwin Dispersed Camping Area located within the Monongahela National Forest in Tucker County, West Virginia. This free 14 day camping area has no facilities and trash is pack it out. I located no less than four RV friendly dispersed campsites at this location, several with spectacular views of the Cheat River. In addition, a small level dirt parking area is available adjacent to a flat forested area along the Cheat River. This location has several stone fire rings for walk-in tent camping. This area is also suitable for kayak launch. Hiking is available on the 287.81 mile north-south Allegheny Trail that passes through the Gladwin Dispersed Camping Area. Just follow the yellow blazes. Hiking maps for the trail are available through the West Virginia Scenic Trail Association which administers the trail. There is no AT&T or Verizon cellular service at this location. Generally, the paved public roads providing access to this camping location are narrow and are not big rig friendly. Grid coordinates are as follows: 39.0072040, -79.5490170

We are from Georgia and even though the video is 2yrs old this is a beautiful area. We are looking outside of our state for some areas such as this in the mountain areas. The Georgia mountains are beautiful and we must say that the videos of your beautiful state has made us decide to visit these areas. Thanks for sharing so much beauty with us. Frank and Lisa

Thank You so much for finding these hidden gems! I'm in North Carolina and these are not far from me. I recently purchased an 8.5 X 18 ft. cargo trailer that is being built as I type this. I hope to pick it up first week of June and then begin transforming it into my ideal camper. I will start camping in it as soon as I get my basic insulation,wiring with a/c installed and build it as I go along. The areas you found will be perfect for my rig. My TV is a 2007 Dodge 3500 Mega Cab RWD. I recently retired and looking forward to seeing all this country has to offer keep up the good work and awesome video's! Thanks Again....Alan Osborne Apex,NC

Can you park a jeep closer to the river?
@LivingOurDreamNow
@LivingOurDreamNow 3 года назад
Not really, the campsites by the river are as close as possible without going over an embankment.

I'm wondering how you came in or rather, what is the best way in. Coming down from Parsons on 72 and onto 26 or down from Davis or even up from Harmon? I'd appreciate how you all got there? Thanks for posting. These sites look beautiful.

WV Route 32 to WV Route 72 to County Road 35/16 (Jenningston Rd.) You'll avoid the steep. narrow, winding portion of WV Route 72 using this approach.

I was camping at that same spot next to the bridge last august and unfortunately a large chunk actually had collapsed, probably a good golf cart size chunk on the right size

Another question....what would this stream fall under in accordance to trout stocking? (Which river)
@LivingOurDreamNow
@LivingOurDreamNow 3 года назад
At the first part of the Gladwin Dispersed Camping Area that I show in the first part of the video the water is the Dry Fork of the Cheat River. In the latter part of the video where I show the bridge, this water is the Cheat River. Look at Gladwin, WV in Google Maps and you'll see how these waters converge.

The campsite on the right before crossing the bridge is sweet. Try snagging that one. Activate the notification bell so you don't miss our next video. I'll have several more videos on camping in West Virginia publishing this summer. Lou

So it's free to camp at this right because I live in West Virginia and hammock a hammock tent and I know they say it's usually limited to 14 days at a spot but the question is how long can you camp at that place could it be long-term is the question it's like camp for 14 days and talk to the neighbors camping there's next to you and be like hey neighbor let's trade spots since we have to move on our 14th day
@LivingOurDreamNow
@LivingOurDreamNow 3 года назад
The camping limit is a maximum of 14 days. You may contact the Monongalia National Forest to determine the length of time you must wait before returning for another overnight stay. I believe that out period is 28 days.

Can I get a 30’ 5th wheel down the road leading to the campground?
@LivingOurDreamNow
@LivingOurDreamNow 4 года назад
The access roads are narrow in places making two vehicles passing each other a challenge. Personally, I would not take any size fifth wheel on these narrow county roads.

I believe this is a low water bridge and that water is intended to flow over the bridge during high water events.

Yep, Your 25 ft camper will work, just take it slow on the county roads.
