The owner has drilled holes where the rear deck mounts with the 2 pins which makes the deck sit way forward. I loosened the front mount 3/4" nuts and reinstalled the deck mounting brackets correctly. So now deck is not an issue, but that steering issue of the the tires turning way too far both ways is still unsolved
I'VE got this mower Thanks right now i made a bushing for the steering rack that you cannot get to the top bolt head without taking motor off? tightened up steering then the spark to plug stopped working now i'm gonna try to jump that to see if it works. any more videos on this one i'd like mine was free that motor is awesome when it's running. the wiring seems to be shot.
I own a 2006 SLT1554 Plus , as of today , 2023, has almost 1,000 hours . my mower does have a 27 hp Command . Not sure why some of these came with 27 HP Courage , and some with the 27 HP Command . The Command being the Commercial . My 1554 has not been cheap though , It has been maintained , this year got a new oil pan gasket . with all expenses , including buying the machine , i have apprx $6.500 total including purchase and maintenance . $6,500 / 1,000 hours = $6.50 per hour . so , IMO , thats a great deal
Thanks for sharing! I guess the SLT and GT and other variants have small differences. The engine type may be the difference in these two tractors. Glad yours is working well!
If the belt is RUBBING on the "Steering plate" the most likely culprit is the DRIVE PULLEY was installed upside down. One side of the drive pulley shaft is about 1/8 in shorter than the other. short side goes up. that 1/8 inch will cause the belt to get EATEN for sure. Dealing with this exact issue on a MTD Huskee Supreme right now... and the drive pulley will NOT come off. so thinking outside the box to fix like you did.... grind away a little bit of metal on the Steering plate to allow for the BELT to not get EATEN. very tight quarters in there for the grinder to get in there also. NEW pulley for these type of DRIVE pulleys are like 60-80 bucks. and Customer said do it the cheapest way.... soo ... doing that.
That's some great info! I didn't realize that when working on this. The steering plate was also missing a bolt. I do know it would eat a drive belt about every season for my friend. Hopefully what I did fixed it and hopefully what you do will fix it as well!
As I was underneath the 2007 MTD Huskee Supreme yesterday ( almost a twin of your cub cadet) figuring out how to grind down the steering plate so the belt will clear.... I had a thought. Since the upside down pulley will not come off, and is attached to the shaft and is hanging 1/8 lower than it should, Can the ENGINE be shimmed on the top of the frame and RAISE the engine UP the needed 1/8 inch so the belt will be able to CLEAR the steering plate? I have the four 3/8"ID x 1.25"OD shim washers needed to raise the engine...only thing I see an issue with is the muffler pipes and how far they stick into the muffler itself. I do not see any other Parts that will "interfere" with the Shimming ...........Anyone see any other issues that may come up with type of "FIX"????
@@nighthawk7921 Not a bad idea, the only thing I can think of is that it may throw off the alignment of the deck belt since everything will now be 1/8" higher.
I have a cub cadet gt1554 2006 lawn mower with steering issues and it needs work it goes 2 miles per hour not sure what's wrong could be a spring on the tensioner steering is an easy fix
I got a GT 1554 second hand from someone and it's missing the PTO clutch stop bracket, not sure if that's what it's called, but could you show what that looks like or possibly what it's actually called? Thank you
Do your front tires hit the deck while turning?? Mine does. The other issue with steering was the tires were turning too far either way, in my opinion. I replaced the gear and bushing on the steering shaft. Also the gear and bushings that connect to the tie rods. No difference, still the tires turn way too far either way. Any suggestions. Just a farm mower, so no beauty contests. Just functionality is key. Thanks
I don't have any issues with the tires hitting the deck. That often happens when the deck brackets are bent and push one side closer to the front. If it's only slightly hitting the deck you may be able to grind off the front lip and get by with it.
