Just add a bit of info thats not in the video: Since filming it, the EML has stayed off, must be down to the HUD I’m suspecting. MPG no noticeable difference. It actually appears a little bit slower in the side by side, but I think that’s down to me being on a steeper part of the hill tbh. If anything it does seem a little tiny bit faster/more abrupt but it is negligible. It doesn’t sound any louder when driving. All in all unless you’re gonna do other mods to go with it, it’s a complete waste of time… so I would 10/10 recommend doing it, obviously 🤷♀️
I did this years ago and only found out afterwards that you really shouldn't breath in any of that dust. If anything, the gutted cat affected engine performance negatively.
It’s probably not great to breath in. I regret not doing a before and after comparison tbh but it seemed to increase performance slightly at higher rpm
The bolts holding on the cat to the engine do come out easy even if they look really rusty, did mine as i replaced the cat and thought the same at 1st but in the end they came out ok, also the clutch is a doddle on these, i did mine with only hand tools and now i have arms like an angry gorilla thumping his chest.
Yea I know what you mean. I think they will probably come out but only had a bit of time at work when was quiet so didn’t wanna end up drilling snapped bolts out. Last time I did the clutch on this shitter was a few years ago and wasn’t bad, probably 3 and a half hours chilled out on the floor but this time will probably take double that if I film it haha
My cat has had it too. Keep resetting the engine management light but it comes on every 200 miles or so. MOT is due end of March. But worried about getting the thing off. It could be a quick half hour job. Or it could turn into a nightmare if one of those bolts snap in the engine block. But at least Euro 4 cats are cheap.
Exactly. That’s why I didn’t take mine off. Tbh it will probably come off with some heat and careful determination, but I didn’t have time to put it right if it did snap. A new aftermarket cat is only about £60 so I’ll just get one of them when if finished pissing shout doing my scientific researching 🤔
The induction tool - without one - I wonder if you could use an old car battery - using salvaged batt leads - put the positive lead with its batt connection or a socket for size of bolt onto the rusty bolt - then earth the negative lead to chassis could do a similar job🤔 I’ve not had to get involved with rusty nuts yet - was just a thought. Might have to connect negative lead close to the rusty bolt then connect to battery when ready
I know what you mean, but no it wouldn’t work unless you put a lot of current through it and it was the high resistance part of the circuit. The induction heaters work but magnetic induction, with some king of current oscillation or some fancy shit. You can weld with a battery though 🤷♀️

Slight off topic question if I may I own one of the few C1s that doesn’t have the rev counter pre wire would you know if I can take a feed from the obd (no3 pin ?) or where the factory pre wire is wired to As I can’t find any info online PS keep up the great work it’s refreshing to watch someone who doesn’t take things to seriously Thanks in advance
I recently swapped my C1 mk 1 for a mk2 and this doesn't have the rev counter which on this model is just a strip of leds. I would like to fit an aftermarket tach and apparently the signal wire connects to a pin on the ignition module. Would be interesting to know if anyone has done something like this. Or even fitted a mk1 "Mickey Mouse ear" rev counter if the wiring is compatible. Only mod I have done to the car so far is putting in a bigger battery, the car had the 012 burglar alarm battery in it.

@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos I had to keep watching ,,, I couldnt tear myself away , just in case it actually was great , and I missed it ,,, the trick is to punch one hole straight through the cat and leave the rest of it in situ , works to flow the gas and helps keep things quiet to ,,, or so Im told of course ,, lol

@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos I know the feeling - Ive a couple of 12v batteries here that are about a fiver scrap, but CBA going out of my way to the scrappers to drop them off (I aint chucking them tho). Have you thought about fitting some cheap alloys to the shitter? Ive just picked up a set of Aygo ones for mine (107) that im going to have a bash at painting white. Tyres are FUBAR, so no need to mask off!

@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Bummer on the clutch - still, its content ;) I made the mistake of buying a set of Renner Clio 15" alloys after being told they were Aygo ones - they will fit as they are 4x100 with a CB of 60mm but need spacers. Still they only cost £50 so I cant grumble, hopefully flog em on again via marketplace. I keep thinking I should look for a cheap Citybug and use it as an autotest car up at Blackburn where they do trials. Dont want to knacker my nice(!!!) Citybug. Good luck with the clutch.

Lol the good old days. It was fucked anyway which is one reason why I’ve done this to see if it makes any difference. I don’t know anyone that will pass it without a cat in these days though, all MOT stations I know have gone strict, but tbh I wouldn’t ask a tester to pass it for me it’s not worth the risk to them. I’ve got a couple of experiments to do with it then I’ll probably just get a cheap aftermarket one fitted 😔
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Yes I know what what you mean. When I de cat my classic mini mpi going down hill it pop and bangs it’s difficult when a cop car follows you down hill you have to take it out of gear and slow down with your breaks and keep with in the speed limit
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Yes it is this mini on my channel it did but I got fed up with getting it hit with every imperfection on the road .The catalytic converter was a generic one and bulky Iv have found a genuine MG Rover catalyst converter new stock old stock for this years mot a few months ago it wasn’t cheap but fits like a glove 🥊 ground clearance is not a classic minis strong point lol 😂
@@markellis4229 nice, I’ll have a look at you’re vids next time I’m watching. I’d love an old mini but I think I’m too young to have been in the market for one when they were reasonable money. When I was a kid I chopped a few up with my mate though, he used to race Brisca Ministox. We did all sorts of stuff to them to get more power “within” the rules, which were supposed to be a boggo standard 1000cc but his was kicking out around 65bhp iirc
It will likely fail on emissions but it’s one of the experiments I have planned for a future vid all going well. I decatted my old 97 bmw 540 years ago and that did go through on emissions, but that was probably less strict do to the age of it.

@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos gutted the cat Sunday since then eml light stayed off and the car proformance is better doesn't struggle climbing hills no more and no rough idling only down side is the exhaust is a bit noisier
