This is how you make your voice sound better in Audacity. The Real Way. This is a custom built EQ that I've created in Audacity from scratch for anyone to use. This Eq and vocal processing chain will make your voice sound better than any other tutorial I've seen out there. You're welcome!
Chain 1.EQ, Compression, Normalization
Chain 2. EQ, Normalization
(This EQ is Property of and Created by Josh Meyer)
EQ Download Link and Import Instructions - (Must Have Version 2.4.1 or Newer)
1. In Filter Curve EQ or Graphic EQ" click the Manage button
2. From the dropdown menu click Import...
3. Select your Josh Meyer EQ TXT file and click on Open
(Your curve will then be imported and will be ready for use.)
4. Click Manage
5. Click Save
6. Save as Josh Meyer's Female EQ
(My EQ is Free for anyone to use, but NOT to claim ownership of or credit for) -( If publicly sharing this EQ, credit must be given to Josh Meyer and VoiceOverMaster on RU-vid). Enjoy!

FINALLY...EQs and audio editing guidance for women! I've watched so many videos now trying to learn Audacity and audio editing from scratch. Ironically, it's for my podcast which is about inclusion and belonging, and guess what? 99% of them are by men, for men! Turns out, women sound different from men 🤦🏻‍♀️ THANK YOU, Josh, for all your detailed training videos, and for focusing this one on EQs for women. You talk about wanting to give back and make and impact, and you totally are - I watched all your videos to figure out how to edit for the first time in my life (and I'm NOT a techie), and now I'm launching a podcast! Unfortunately I lost my job this year so all I can offer you is comments, likes and subs. :) Keep up the awesomeness and thanks again!

When I first started my (now defunct) podcast in 2018, I would have paid SO MUCH for this content. Thanks so much, Josh. Josh-All I can say is thank you. You really are a Picasso of sound EQ. It is very easy to see how passionate you are about your craft and that you love it so much. Bet it doesn't feel like work! Anyway, I have been doing VO work for only about 4 months (after being away from a short career in radio and producing tons of ads) but this is a game changer. They never taught us or told us about any of this stuff in broadcasting school or even at the station. I have done one audiobook so far and hope to do more. Again, keep being awesome at what you do! Subbed! Just found you Josh as I was trying to figure this whole EQ thing on Adobe Audition. Audition seems to be the main thing youtubers are creating audio editing tutorials on but 1) It took up so much hard disk space and 2) I always remembered Audacity doing the job just as well. You picked some of the better "theirs". I am not an expert at all but I have learned by trial and error. IMO the first rule of EQing is "do no harm". By not making it worse you already are better than 75% of RU-vid "experts"

Hey Josh, this is great. Assuming you skipped applying the compressor and went straight to Normalize just for the sake of the video? Also, for ALL of these EQs, are you cutting down to -42dB as you did for the first one? I would guess yes :) Thanks again for the 'good stuff' Josh, really enjoying your stuff! ☺️

VoiceOverMaster thx josh😬🏄🏻‍♀️! As you can see music is my main love & passion (for the last 6+ yrs) though I only started my yt channel this January. I’m actually only just barely starting in to VO. Spent the last few months learning, researching, doing courses, building my vocal booth and playing with audacity as Ableton (which I use for music production) isn’t as friendly for this kind of simpler editing. Looking forward to really making something of this and appreciate the insightful & fun stuff you’re sharing here. killin it🤙🏻

Thanks Josh! Been waiting for this for women, woohooo so incredibly helpful. Can’t wait to try on my next episode. Question: Would u recommend compressor before or after EQ and at what level? Also do u think loudness normalization is ok the replace normalization by default for podcast edit?

Usually Eq before compression. Sometime Eq works best after compression though. I’d create a duplicate track and try it both ways for you. Loudness normalization can work well but you’d need to teak the settings and know how to measure so you could limit after. Compression at -10 on the threshold 2:1 ratio😊

Josh, I checked to see if I have the latest version of Audacity, which I do. Went to go download the EQ 3, followed the instructions but when I go to select the TXT file from the import option, it just says, "Josh Meyers Female EQ 3.text: is for a different Effect, Generator or Analyzer" Not sure what I am doing wrong??

Make sure you’re importing into filter curve 😊. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling

I can definitely hear the difference in your video, but for some reason who im trying all 3 on my own voice, i just cant tell if its any different from the original audio or even the difference between the 3. is there some weird anomaly where one can edit their own voice haha i dont know maybe its because atm im using my cannon 200d mark II mic which i hope to change soon to a shot gun mic but yeah i am not sure what im doing wrong here.
