This was amazing! I learned so much from you. I just started looking at how to do this yesterday. You answered questions I didn't even know I had yet! I truly think I could make this. It so so very beautiful! You're a true artist. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge.
I just found you from the Let's Resin group. This is absolutely stunning and very beautiful. I've never tried a freeform bowl yet, but your instructions are very well laid out, thank you so much for a great tutorial
Nice work. You could simply put a rope around the crystals, under the plastic and so create a barrier so that the resin could not flow beyond the outer crystals' circle.
Thank you!! Adding a barrier under the plastic could work, but it could make the resin settle too thick, pool in the center and not spread. This could cause the design to look different. Please let me know if you try that idea and send me photos! I'd love to know how it works for you. Elizabeth@elizabethleigharts.com
For a pour surface, try using heavy duty trash bags. They will be made of LDPE with a few made of HDPE. Either material will do. If you get the very heavy contractor bags, they will lay flat and much fewer wrinkles than the shrink wrap or cling wrap. One 30 gal bag should make 4 sheets large enough for the project you have going here. If you roll them up carefully, you should be able to get several uses from each sheet. P.S. At the end of the video you suggested using a d Dremel or sanding block. I have both. I would add a word of caution on the use of the Dremel. Be sure to use your lowest speed and don't stay on one spot more than a few seconds, The Dremel can generate enough heat to melt or cause burn spots on the resin, The sanding block can be challenging to get into tiny spaces, I keep a number of nail boards on hand in different grits and different forms. The good old emery boards are thin and stiff. There are some boards that have the a piece of foam sandwiched between the two abrasive sides. All of these are disposable and economical. There are the old standby metal ones and now there are glass ones. The two later ones are cleanable and last for a very long time. Any of these can be found at Dollar Stores, Grocery Stores, Wal-Mart, and drug stores as well as Amazon. I hope this helps someone along the way, no matter how far along you are in your journey.
I would not suggest using trash bags for several reasons 1. Most trash bags will make the bottom side of the resin dull, due to the composition of the black or green plastic 2. Ridges and lines in bags will come through the bowl 3. Hard to completely flatten the bags. I've tried many types of plastic. Cling types of plastic work best on these bowls
@@ElizabethLeighArts I apparently didn't make my idea clear. I was referring to keeping your work surface clean. I didn't mean to use the bags as mold material. Sorry if my post was too vague.
Just starting my journey with resin. Thank you so much for this video. It is the most clear, informative one I’ve found. Question I have is can you put the plastic on a metal tray to keep the resin contained? Does it have to be the 99% alcohol or can you use the 70%? Again , thank you !
Thank you! I posted two more videos this week, I hope you watch them 😀 1. I would not use a tray, might not be completely flat. If you follow my process and wait to pour resin, plus use glass to block the flow around rim, resin will be contained. You must use alcohol over 93% to remove bubbles
❤tyfs very good tutorial Beautiful! I really appreciate the tips especially the time note! Thats going to be very helpful for me I sometimes forget when I poured it lol!
You are an incredible teacher! I absolutely love this video. I will try this. My problem is that my table is not level or flat and I can't get a new one yet. I will do my best to level it and use a flat surface. Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise. 🥰
Thank you so much for this step by step process. I found it to be so helpful. I followed your instructions completely but my bowl is still “bendy” after 48 hours. Is there something else I should do?
There are a few things that could have happened 1. Is your room heated to at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit ? Sometimes my bowls take longer to cure in colder weather 2. Your measurements might have been off 3. You might not have mixed the resin long enough 4. You may have used too much alcohol ink. I would let it sit over the vase for another two days, making sure you have removed the plastic
Elizabeth, thank you for your prompt reply. I appreciate the troubleshooting tips. My room temp is 72; I mixed exactly 1:1, I mixed the resin for 5 minutes. I’m not sure if I used too much alcohol ink. I put drops all around the resin slowly and let it expand before adding any more, covering all the resin. As you suggest, I’ll give it more time to cure and maybe next time not use as much alcohol ink. Is there another colorant (like India inks) that you would recommend instead of alcohol ink? I love the idea of placing the ink and then swirling a design rather than mixing the resin with a color. I appreciate your help so much. Thanks again and Happy New Year to you!
Thanks for posting this detailed video... whatever people say let them but truely speaking no one post with so much details.. really appreciate & i bet anyone can make this with fail after watching ur video..
I admire your talent and teaching ability. Most of all I admire your candor about your injury and recovery. I have cerebral palsy and I am very creative...so I don't let my restrictions stop me. I do beadwork.
Thank you Elizabeth! Wonderful instruction and I hope to make a complete bowl. My resin bowls that I have tried to create turn into plates and I end up hanging them in the window! I really loved this video.
This looks amazing. Love the colours. I wonder if it can be completed with the Colour Passion tints. I’m thinking if they were mixed into the colours first then poured over instead of the clear then adding the inks. Just a thought. It would be sooo cool. ❤❤❤
Thank you! Are you saying that your resin smells? I had that issue early on when I first started working with resin and the brands I used had an odor. It's been my experience that JDiction has no odor at all. I also found Puduo to have no odor. What brand resin are you using?
I'm a resin newbie and I just want to say I love all of your detailed tutorials and I've been watching RU-vid videos of resin art makers and trying to find out what kind of plastic you use so it doesn't stick underneath the resin & will be easy to unmold thank you..
This is the best video for teaching you how to make this bowl. I learned a lot. While watching, I went to Amazon and saved things I need to buy, like the gloves and glass. I look forward to making a beautiful bowl myself.
Hi I don’t trust those cups someone on here that is popular said don’t trust them and that’s what was happening to me they were off just letting you know
I tried my first resin bowl and it is a disaster. I used so much resin it covered the whole TV table it thinned out I sprinkled sparkle color on it and it began to turn purple and green, it was supposed to be lavender. I sprinkled lavender chips on top of the epoxy instead of putting the design chips on the table first. But it's my first time and I hope that my plastic is not so thin that I can't take it off I may have to end up throwing it away. I watched this woman do this and she is such a master at it I hope I can become as good as she is because I have seen her vases and they are absolutely beautiful. I will watch your video again and I will try again and thank you for sharing your art❤
Do you know Wanda from Wanda Blessed Creation? I ask her to put you in her shout outs. She likes to help newcomers to get their name out there and bring people to your channel. I hope that’s OK.
You ate so creative but beyond that I have never found anyone on you tube that explains the process the way you do. I watched many artists doing bowls but I was never sure how to make one. Now I’m going to try. Thank you.
I mixed my resin put the color in mix the color with the paddle mixer and began pouring I left out the part where you were supposed to wait for the epoxy to thicken up for 30 minutes. What a mess I have made. But I still have plenty of epoxy left and I will try again tomorrow but I have to wait until 10:00 tonight to see if I could get the plastic away from this thin layer of epoxy that I have put down. We all have to make mistakes before we become perfectionist but it was still fun.
