This free After Effects preset lets you add realistic, custom heat haze to your scenes. To download, go to www.CreationEffects.com and head to the Freebies page. If you download the Heat Haze, please like or comment below.
This tutorial shows how to install and customize the heat haze.
The effect is very flexible - add a quick heat shimmer to your sunsets, create watery distortion for underwater scenes, or animate controlled, intense heat distortion on a jet engine. Adjust the detail, movement, and intensity of the heat haze with easy controls. Adjust the blurring and warping separately. Limit the heat haze to a specific area with a mask, and smoothly fade out the intensity of the heat haze.

Brilliant video! Could you perhaps explain how you generated the displacement map? What was the maths involved? Thanks in advance.

It involved using a Turbulent Displace and Turbulent Noise effect, both moving at the same speed and direction, controlled by a simple "time * ___" expression that references the customization controls.

You can keyframe the Path property (expand the mask's properties in the timeline).

Did you try restarting After Effects? Or, click the three-lines icon on the Animation & Presets tab, and click the "Refresh List" button.

I'm not sure if you can use AE animation presets in Premiere. Maybe if you use it in a AE project file first, and then import the comp into premiere using Dynamic Link - but I'm not sure.

Sure it does. Just go to the site (link in description), then go to the Freebies page (from the main navigation bar). Then under the "Free Heat Haze" image, click "Download Preset".
