I live in France,it’s 25 years ago that I had heard the Name Leonard Peltier… had a visit from Lakotas from Pine Ridge and they told us what happened… I had the strange feeling as they come from another Planet 😢

Myrtle Poor Bear said she was Leonard's girlfriend. She was the FBI's main witness. Turns out, Poor Bear didn't even know Leonard Peltier at all. Great job Fbi ... not
But what is he accused of, why was he imprisoned, and what absolves him of the crime? This video has great visuals and emotion but no information for those that don’t know, and if it’s been 47 years, MOST don’t know.
He is accused of killing an FBI agent. There are some good books on the subject but I’m sure the Lakota People’s Law Project probably has some good resources to refer you to.
The evidence in the trial was all circumstantial, leaving huge doubts that Peltier was ever involved in the shootout. Two other men were tried and acquitted of the killing because the FBI agents had been pursuing them in unmarked vehicles and it was considered self defence, but Peltier was unable to use the same defense because he had fled to Canada and by the time he returned to stand trial, the lawyers had changed their argument. The jury was shown photographs of the two dead men, and the description of events was changed to make it seem more brutal. Despite the fact that there was very little evidence he was even involved in the crime he walked away with the harshest sentence.
