DEDICATE TO PAUL KOSSOFF From "HIGHWAY" Love this very very much!!! Vocals:PAUL RODGERS Electric Guitar:PAUL KOSSOFF Electric Bass:ANDY FRASER Drums:SIMON KIRKE
I grew up listening to free, my father brought me up listening to what would of been the greatest band of all time . My father asked my to promise that when he passed I would play this song at his funeral. This song makes me think of my father so much who I miss so much . My name is Paul , named after the greatest voice . Paul Rodgers , the goat
my husband was tragically killed on a motorcycle in 2009. Free was his all time favourite band. He would always tell me how he thought this was such a pretty song and such a wonderful tribute to Paul Kossoff. I played it at his funeral....
A message for Sir Paul Rodgers. It’s a long story, and I’ve know idea if you will ever read this message but I have to put this story out there. Apart from sport , my fathers main love was was football. He was a welsh international and played for Cardiff CIty .His name was Tony Villars. Ever since I can remember going back to the late 80’s he played me free , all the greats from fire and water, mr big, the stealer ,be my friend , seagull, lady , riding on a pony , the list is endless. The cut loose album with live in peace . He was so stubborn that he wouldn’t cross the road to watch queen until the voice fronted them . I was too young to see paul because I was born in 76 , but he took me to watch paul at colston hall in Bristol and then twice at Cardiff fronting queen. Paul’s voice singing all of Freddie’s songs he made his own and in my opinion turned queen into a blues rock band in my opinion. My fathers dying wish was to have love you so and magic ship played at my dads funeral. Your are a legend Sir Paul Rodgers and I hope one day I will see you play live again .. You are the best and you made me pick a guitar up and learn to play some of your songs . Thanks for giving me memories pig spending special times with my father ..
Paul, I like your story and it probably rings true to many people. I first saw Free in 1969 when I was 17 and have been hooked ever since. I saw Paul with Queen in Budapest and I would say he had as many fans there as did Queen. I also only went to see Paul. You may not know but every year in November, just north of Newcastle the Annual Free Convention holds a two night show of Free cover bands in memory of that great band. It is for charity and around 200 people go on each of the two nights. It started I believe in 1986 and has been attended by Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke and Rabbit Bundrick. My band has played there for the last three years and I hope to continue. I am only telling you this in case you fancy going because tickets sell out quickly for the Saturday night. here are links to the convention and to my band The Stealer. My name is Andrew Truscott and I play bass. Free Convention: facebook.com/groups/283891801717416 The Stealer: facebook.com/groups/702784711657421
HI, i`me 63 years young, i remember seeing FREE, at the liverpool stadium. they were wild then, in my mind, they are still wild. GOD, why can`t we have a band like them again.
An absolutely beautiful tribute to one of the finest guitarists which the British Blues Boom, ever revealed. He still remains one of my all time favourite Blues Guitarists. I bumped into Paul Kossoff (or he actually bumped into me), by sheer chance, in 1973 in the Fullham Greyhound Pub, dressed in that navy blue coat of his & unfortunatelky never recognised him until many years later, when I saw his dressed in that same coat, from a picture taken at possibly the same time. RIP you lovely, yet troubled Soul !
I am listening for similar reasons. I love Free. My Dad is 92 and I have just found out he is fighting pneumonia. Unfortunately, it is nearly 11pm and I am on holiday 200 miles away. Debating what to do. Only got here last night, tomorrow is forecast to be more than 30 degrees and air conditioning on the car isn't working. Dad would say don't travel (he often tells me off for driving 10 miles from home to see him). To use a cricketting analogy (Dad loves cricket), G Reaper is coming on to bowl, from his long run with the new ball. Hope Dad is well padded up and has his eye in.🤞🏼🤞🏼
Kossoff's style & tone was simple & beautiful, no frills, just honest & real. Always wondered what would've become of him if his demons hadn't destroyed him. I'll never forget.
A band that never received its proper recognition, but played with more pure heart and soul than those who were more popular. And none of them were 20 years old when they recorded their first album “tons of sobs.” Their talent was unique for a band that was so young. Kiss & andy are no longer with us, but their legacy of fine music lives on. Rip koss & andy🙏
A truly incredible band. Fantastic vocals and Paul Kossof was up there with best of them, his less means more playing was unique. A truly sad loss at such a young age.
As I said previously, Paul Rodgers was -- and still is -- a truly great singer (probably the best Hard Rock blues singer of all time, imo). Free was good at ballad arrangements, but it's Rodgers' voice that makes this track, imo; his tone is perfect, his technical ability peerless and emotional depth staggering, especially when you consider that he was just 20 years of age when this particular track was recorded. 'Highway' was, surprisingly, a commercial failure both in the UK and USA, but it does contain the band's finest ballads (marginally eclipsing the ballads found on 'Fire and Water', imo). Also, I think David Coverdale is a huge fan of this era of Free, as his early Whitesnake work features heavily this singing style. Any thoughts, fellow youtubers?
theholmez75 rubbish.....Paul Kossoffs tone and playing is what make this song great...Rodgers does a good job but without Koss the song is just standard
The magic was created by the four of them. It was never recreated after the split in any of the spin off bands. Back Street Crawler were the closest thing to Free. The soulful songs and the feeling in Paul Kossoff's guitar playing.
Paul Rodgers, the voice, is not in heaven. Paul Kossoff is the Paul they speak of, a wonderful soulful guitarist, who is still missed in the rock world.
Love is no crime . . . And love is real. . . I felt true love for the first time in my life late in life . . . I may only get a taste and no more, but I am grateful for that. When I leave, I pray that my true love will come to me.
Ahww. So sad, but such a great tribute to Paul Kossoff. Gorgeous song. They were all so young, yet so talented. Paul Rodgers has got great pipes, at the centre of band. No other Rock Singer has got the same technical ability, emotional depth or rang, imo. He was - still is - the best.
I watch this video often and feel so very sad. Paul truly was a genius and I miss him so very much. God Bless you mate. Heaven is a better place for your being there. J xxx

Almost everything around us is a consequence of renunciation and sorrow. The writings and images on cracked walls and wall dormers that hurt the eyes represent a truth that no one will soon read or look at anymore! We are now surrounded by patronizing musician puppets blinded by other vain beliefs
