　SQ-80やD-50、DX7といった往年のシンセの仕組みを勉強していくうちに、「Surge XTでも似たような仕組みを作れるのではないか？」と考えて作ったプリセット集です。昔のイタロハウスとか初期ユーロビートとかでよく聴くような、キラキラしたシンセベルの音色が入っています。今聴くとちょっと古臭いけど、なかったらなかったで困るタイプのあの感じです。
　といっても、オリジナルシンセの波形とは違うし実際のプリセットを再現したわけでもないので、あくまでも「それっぽい音」です。むしろ先に挙げたシンセの要素をごちゃ混ぜにしたような感じ。それでも、80年代後期から90年代初期のあの雰囲気を少しでも楽しんで頂ければ幸いです。
　今回、Surge XTのWavetableでOne shotを選ぶと、PCMのように鳴ってくれる仕様を発見できたのは助かりました。作成したプリセットでは、アタック成分にPCM、FM、Wavetable、ノイズオシレーターなどを使った物が混在しています。オシレーターがいくつも重なっているため、不要な音はオフにするとまた音の印象が変わると思います。
　「-2」「-3」などの末尾が付いているプリセットは、Keytrackによってディケイ成分のアタックタイムが変化するように再調整したものです。最初に作ったプリセットでは高音になるとPCMの長さが短くなり、アタックが消失する現象が起こってました。再調整されたプリセットでは、高音でもある程度アタックのある音になってます。ただし、Surge XTの仕組み上PCMの伸縮にディケイをぴったり合わせることが難しく、音域によってはやはり若干違和感があります。
　プリセットをSurge XTに読み込ませる方法は、まずSurge XTのPatch Browserをクリックし「Open user patch folder」を選択。開かれたフォルダーの中に追加するプリセットのfxpを入れ、Surge XTを再起動すると本体のPatch Browserから選択できるようになります。
　プリセット作成に使用したSurge XTのバージョンは「1.3.1.4b53827」です。バージョンが違う場合は正しく動作しない可能性もあります。

This is a collection of Surge XT presets that I made while studying the workings of synths such as the SQ-80, D-50, and DX7, with the thought that I could create a similar system for the Surge XT.
This pack contains soundbanks of twinkling, airy synth bells that you might hear in old Italo House or early Eurobeat.It sounds a bit old-school when you listen to it now, but it's that kind of sound that you wouldn't want to be without.
However, the waveforms are different from those of the original synths, and I did not reproduce the actual presets. It is just a "sound like it". It's more like a jumble of elements from the SQ-80, D-50, Emulator, and DX7. Still, I hope you enjoy the atmosphere of the late 80s and early 90s as much as I did.
It helped that I found a specification in Surge XT's Wavetable that makes it sound like PCM if you select the One shot folder. In the preset I created this time, the attack is a mixture of PCM, FM synth, Wavetable, and noise oscillator. Since there are several oscillators sounding at the same time, turning off unnecessary oscillators will change the impression of the sound.
Presets with suffixes such as "-2" and "-3" were readjusted so that the attack time of the decay component changes depending on the Keytrack. In my first preset, the PCM length became shorter at higher notes, causing the attack of the sound to disappear. In the re-adjusted preset, the attack of the sound remains to some extent even on high notes. However, the Surge XT mechanism makes it difficult to match the decay timing exactly to the PCM expansion and contraction, so there is still some discomfort in some key ranges.
To load a preset into Surge XT, first click on the Patch Browser in Surge XT and select "Open user patch folder". Put the fxps of the preset you want to add into the opened folder and restart Surge XT. You will then be able to select the preset you added from the Patch Browser.
The version of Surge XT used to create these presets is "1.3.1.4b53827". It is possible that these may not work properly with a different version of Surge XT.
