I take the 5038 next week. This is so helpful. It’s been a long time since I’ve taught ELA (13 years 😩) and I’ve never taught high school. I was completely freaked out when I looked at what’s going to be on the test, but this video makes me much more confident. I’ve already downloaded your free guide. Thank you.

Perfect timing for this content since I'm getting ready for the new school year where I have to teach long-essay question / reading tests so your explanations and working backwards strategies are informative plus your examples are practical for teachers to understand and practice with their own classes. Regarding the backward strategies, would you show and explain how to specifically conduct backwards planning for long-essay question/reading tests that entails creating scaffolding such as Do-Whats, anchor charts, annotation guides, t-charts, organizers, sentence-frames, checklists etc. for high school students? That's what I'm trying to develop more of for my high school students who struggle with understanding the essay question, identifying key ideas from the text including the answer to the essay question, and staying on topic with their essay so your explanations as well as modeling would be helpful in letting me check myself and learn new strategies.
