Excellent discussion .. and I also love DX ing not normally found areas of bands, news feeds have given me some of the best flood and fire coverage ever. I also "used to do" a lot of searching on shortwave but both hobbies have lessened somewhat over the years due to the ever present TV evangelist group, the abundance preachers .. I have virtually given up shortwave listening for that reason. I still have my ham radio and I just love going back to the HF basics of CW and use morse code for some of my most memorable contacts, both on land and whilst sailing.
LOL I love the preachers, Get a kick out of some of them! But it is a fun hobby! You get lots of interesting channels. There is a lot of radio stations that are on shortwave but come in much more clear!
Hi, Robbie. First of all, thank you for this great resource and for all of the time and information you provide us. I've got a large BUD with the old Chaparral co-rotor II combined c/ku lnb and servomotor. I can grab everything from 78W to about 133W. I've had a Titanium Satellite ASC-1 dishmover and polarity controller, but that's now died and those units are pretty much gone from the market. I'd like to buy a new dishmover and a good quality c/ku lnbf. I've got an old Manhattan receiver, as well as an Edision OS mio 4k. If you are comfortable recommending a dishmover and c/ku lnbf that would pare well with those, I'd sure appreciate it. Thank you.
Thanks for reviewing the channels. Would be a cool thing, however, seems like the pickings are slim. Most of these channels are available on streaming or on the providers website. I would assume a lot of the overseas channels are also in a foreign language.
This video focuses on KU band not C band. from a few years ago. And the channels that I was pointing out were the English channels that are on satellite. I personally find there is plenty to watch on KU band. But I do mostly watch news channels. My goal for this video to to put out what is out there. And I do state to look at Lyngsat and TVRo sat for the latest updates on where channels are. The change around a lot. Some have been on the same bird for years.
For Galaxy 19 you have referred to it as 97 west. Is that where it is from you? 97 degrees from here is southeast. My I-pad shows Galaxy 19 as 151 and 46 degrees angle, but I am not receding anything on Blind Scan. Am I misunderstand something? What am I doing wrong??
Back in the late 1980's I had a Winegard 10' Dish with a Drake ESR 324 receiver with C and Ku bands. At that time, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of great channels. Today, most everything that is worthwhile is ENCRYPTED. The cost of the equipment and time needed for setup and use do not make FTA worthwhile or cost effective. The exception would be in canada, away from the U.S. border, where there are very, very few choices for television.........
@@RobbieStrike As I ALREADY stated, there is virtually NOTHING worthwhile that isn't encrypted. Most television viewers would agree with my assessment. Satellite is a nice hobby but hardly worth the time, effort or expense.......
I hear since orby TV is gone out of business that it's not a locked dish & that I can use a free-to-air receiver with my OrbyTV DISH , I do not know if this is true or not but I am going to test that out and I'm a complete beginner with Free to air don't know nothing about it until I found your videos would you recommend something for a good for beginners Free to Air receiver that will blindscan & catch channels for me to purchase & try as a beginner? @@RobbieStrike thank you little pricey but better than buying a bunch of crappy ones learning which ones suck like a ota antenna buying process where so many lie and say 150 mi range. so if I can bypass that process with your recommendation thank you very much again.
@@PiccoloNamic Some of the cheaper ones will work ok like the GT media v8. But you have to manually enter the North American satellites. It is not that hard. Just a extra step though. if it is worth saving $30 then go for it!
I tried to pick up SES 3 on a 32 X 22 DireTV oval. Fail. Same on a black and pink oval Dish. Are any of the overhead east coast satellites distinctly stronger than SES 3 ?
@@RobbieStrike I have the Bullseye BEO1 universal and I think I just don't get the signal strength. I'm wondering if I just have to give up on a 32 X 22 dish, and if there's any strong signals way over in the west or east of SES 3?

Sure not like it was years ago. I used to really be into this used to be a hell of a lot more to watch including dish network and Beverly. Had a 90cm with motor to follow the Clark belt. Now satellites are just dying off. Everything’s going IP. Even network remote broadcasting probably just going to use star link and upload via IP.
It seems to me most of these channles are the free channles on roku. Its cool your into it . but for me its a hassle to learn all of this. I use antena and get all of the local channel's like 26 channel's reliable their always in. And i have roku 100s of free their. And i also connect my cell phone to tv. . screen mirror and the free tv apps are endless pluto its free and a whole cable tv line up. Theirs and youtube endless tv. So in other words to this satilite way seems hobby more than anything. You described so much that it that it easy see it takes alot to do this. And sounds like your loosing alot of channels as time goes by.. Im aint knocking it . i bet alot of people in certain aeria would like it. Thanks for the vid lesson.
Thank you for your comment Tom. I also stream mostly using RU-vid on the TV. I guess it is similar to amateur radio. You can call someone on a phone but for some people it is more fun to talk on a radio!

I was going to buy one of them Amiko 4K receivers but wasn’t sure weather I could get one sent over to the UK, I bought a Cryptobox 800 UHD receiver which does do what I need
I challange you set up large feed horn used for 8 foot satelite resized to use on a 39 inch sattelite dish then acan to see what comes in its a rewuest and challenge

It is a fund hobby if your into the teck and the back end of the media stuff. But it is not getting Pay TV For free. These satellites, like the Galaxy 19 are below the horizon in most parts of Europe but if you are in a place with the satellite in line of sight, like south western Europe you might get a weak reception, requiring a very big dish. However, some of the channels mentioned in the video are also being broadcasted on various Atlantic satellites aimed at customers in both the US, South America and Europe. NHK, DW and RT are also available FTA on several satellites aimed at European customers, requiring a very small dish.

Looks like the dish is to small. GeosatPro will work if hooked up to a c band dish. You will need at least a 4 foot dish. but a 10 foot will work the best!
