Can it be saved or is it trashed? After sitting for 50+ years we're about to find out. Follow Kevin as he tears done a V8 Flathead to see exactly what he's got.
While Kevin has always dreamed of having a Flathead, he'll admit he knows very little about them. RU-vid videos, trial and error and a whole lot of determination went into this one.....
If it's salvageable, you know it's gonna be put to good use. Question is..... what should we put it in?
We'd love to hear from you. Feel free to leave us feedback or drop us a comment or question in the comment section.

I appreciate that. I haven’t heard back from the machine shop yet to find out if it salvageable, but they were excited to check it out for us .

Man this takes me back, first engine tear down was me and my Grandpa rebuilding the flathead out his '48 Ford truck in 1972, it came apart a wee bit easier than yours did Kevin. 😅

Congratulations! We ran a 3rd gen flathead, bored and stroke, balanced and blueprinted with tri carb in a dune buggy back in the early 70's, man it made some horses ...the only problem back then was it was before paddle tires, it left like a pig, but after it was rolling... I subbed and am looking forward to you build!

Sucks that you had to wreck the transmission to get it off but sometimes you gotta be the bad guy and do what you gotta do. Despite its issues the Ford Flathead just has the cool factor and is worth owning just for that reason. I don’t know if trans fluid/acetone is better than store bought penetrating oil but it works at least as well and certainly cheaper, definitely the way to go if you use quantity.

I felt the same way about the transmission. There a lot of aftermarket options out there. I can wait to see what I find to put it in. Thanks for checking out the video.

Looks as if you have a 1941 flathead. Problem is, that year Ford built the engine with thin walled steel sleeves. Back in the day, you could take out the sleeves, hone the walla and buy an oversized piston set from Sears Roebuck. Probably not cost effective to rebuild that engine.
