Thanks for this first look video. I’ve been using Shotcut for over a year, with no editing background, and have found this to be a good program. There are a few limitations but most can be solved with a work around. Please make more videos about ShotCut.

Great to hear! I will make more videos. If you have any questions or things you're struggling with, I'd be happy to give them a go.

Nice. Bit rough around the edges but seems to do the job! Dig deeper to find out what's next.

Honestly, judging a program while you are trying to make sense of it on the fly is not a very good way to rate how the program is. There was a ton of stuff that you were missing like for example you weren't bringing your clips to the playlist window, you didn't know that you can drag clips to the timeline from either the playlist or the preview window itself and that you can go to "open other" and open the text function there which will open a transparent clip with the text filter on it that you put on a separate video track which will give you much more flexibility on how to place text. In this video you put the text filter on the track head. On the Shotcut website, they literally have a "tutorials" page that is to the right of the "features" that you clicked on. The tutorials page has videos for you to watch so that you can familiarize yourself with the basics of the program. Also, if you plan on using Shotcut again, under setting there are two important features. One is preview scaling and the other is proxy. Preview scaling helps with preview lag that may happen after you add filters and proxy gives you a smaller copy of the video file you are working with to make editing smoother.

Thank you, I appreciate your comments! You're right, I wasn't trying to 'rate' the program at first sight. But this was my very intention: *to come at it absolutely fresh* , with no prior experience. I will do the same with other software. Coming at it from a predominantly Premiere background, I believe a 'cold turkey' approach gives you one significant insight: whether the program abides by industry standards and conventions or tries to do its own thing. This influences your learning curve if you are coming at it from a different software ecosystem, particularly if even the naming of the various elements is different. I am sure Shotcut has many more features and I was not attempting to do a full review of it... just to get a feel for how easy it would be for someone completely new to it to figure out, hence the 'first look' title. I am actually planning on delving deeper into it and exploring the individual functions, and yes, watching those tutorials. I have several friends and clients who are interested in working with a free solution rather than paying for Premiere or Camtasia. I'll be trying to get their input when structuring the tutorials. I'll be doing the same for DaVinci Resolve, Filmora, etc. Thanks again for your input. I appreciate you watching my videos.

Unless the title and description were modified at some point since this video was launched, I think we get exactly what we can expect : A first look from someone who never used Shotcut before.

You're exactly right: a cold-turkey, first look. I'm discovering this program and will be publishing more tutorials as I progress. Thanks for watching!

@@Graphicious I've been using Shotcut for more than a year now and I learned something new when I watched your "Image sequence to video clip in Shotcut" tutorial. So I'm looking forward to your next videos.
