Or just Martin's jealousy because Ben is Sherlock even if they both auditioned for that part, but that's childish and Martin isn't like that, so I think that it's fake.

I love thier friendship honestly but I keep seeing articles talking about how they're actually not friends and how frosty their relationship is...it actually said they they're jealous of each other, is it true or not?
What I heard was that Martin just said something like he didn't feel comfortable acting in Sherlock due to harassment and expectations from the most ardent fans, he said he loved the Show and knew the importance of it in his personal and professional life, but that it wasn't fun anymore. And that his life was already crazy without Cumberbatch. Martin said that acting, under these circumstances, was like being a mini-Beatles. In a later tabloid, Cumberbatch disagreed with Martin, apparently not liking the way he referred. Cumberbatch would have said that: "It's pretty pathetic that he doesn't want to conform to reality. What do you mean, because of expectations? I don't know. I don't agree with that, necessarily. I understand what he says to a certain extent. There's a level of obsession where [the franchise] becomes everyone's business, even though we're the ones making it. But I have to say, I'm not affected by it in the same way." Martin later went public saying he was misunderstood and the tabloids took him out of context. The only thing I take away from it is that Cumberbatch is more rational and knows that he is doing a job and that his performance will not be frustrated by the expectations of the fans. While Martin is more emotional and sensitive to situations outside the recording setting. How did the media understand that "it was a fight"? It's just two different people with different opinions about the work they do. Honestly, I don't know where the tabloids got that they were never friends and that Martin was jealous of Cumberbatch (there are interviews where Martin is questioned about always being in the same jobs as Ben, and Freeman replies that he's not "shadowing him, if that's what it seems", but he seemed to be joking). And then, they seemed to be good co-workers in all the behind-the-scenes footage of Sherlock and The Hobbit, as well as being close at award shows. If something really put them off, I don't think it's just that. And if they fought, I think we fans will never know the real reasons, stars also have the right to omit their private life from fans, we have to respect them. Maybe they got into a fight. Or it could just be that both are leading different lives, consequently drifting apart. The truth is that they gained a lot of fame after Sherlock and The Hobbit, it could just be that success, busy life, differing notions of how to deal with success and fans and incompatible schedules impacted their friendship. I think it's perfectly reasonable! Life changes, demanding that they be the same as they were in 2010 must be frustrating for them.

This is wrong. Both are still in good terms, and they are still speak friendly of each other, and Martin bought in 2019 a house in the same quarter where Ben lives, just a few minutes far away from each other. Benedict: "... and every minute spent off camera with Martin Freeman was my favorite moment."
There is this thing called "work friends". In a professional setting they get along fine and can find lots to talk and joke about during the downtime. But they don't live in each other's pockets. Ben is acting royalty in the UK, was educated in posh schools, etc. Martin comes from a more middle/working class background and actually left drama school early to get to work as he didn't have funds enough to complete his program at that time. It's true testament to both their parents that despite their different upbringing they both have a good work ethic and treat others respectfully. That's how they can work well together and be friendly without actually being besties in real life.
