yes, the door is at around 85-90 feet deep, and then we kept falling a bit deeper. Takes a bit of training to get there!

@@DaanVerhoeven however challenging or cool or exciting it may look to go inside a wreck: no I wouldn't. Even if it were way within my personal limits which is far less than 10 m deep.

I have been unable to fart at depth, except with a scuba tank... as all gases compress to a smaller size. I believe it is impossible. (nose pinch and ear clearing, more likely) -And, pretty girls will tell you... "Me, fart?... not possible."

your reasoning makes sense - if you look at it as a movement from the legs. Swimming with a monofin uses the core muscles much more, and that makes it a more efficient way of propelling yourself through the water. Compare the deepest dive in bi-fins (108 meters) to the deepest with a monofin (130 meters) by the same guy, Alexey Molchanov.

@@DaanVerhoeven hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. So they're called 'monofins' huh? Makes sense. So, Alexey got about 20% deeper on a dive with the monofins compared to the other with bi-fins - ok. Can we say for certain it was the monofins that contributed to this outcome more than anything else that day? I don't even dive and I can imagine quite a few different variables that could come into play. Even with the same person doing the same activity, there are many contributing factors besides the gear used. And now that I'm thinking about it, I don't recall seeing _any_ deep free dives where the diver was exerting themselves all that much on the way down. They seem to let gravity do most of the work in that direction, right? I'm sorry to raise questions like this, forgive me. I acknowledge my ignorance in the matter, and I'm not saying you're wrong. Believe me, I'm not a contrarian. I'll readily admit to being quite skeptical at times, but not unreasonably so I don't think. I'm just saying that I'd need a more sufficient explanation to be convinced. However, it isn't your job to convince or educate me so I wouldn't burden you with that. I'm perfectly able to go looking for info myself - which I'll do regardless - but if you had anything to share which might further my understanding, I would of course greatly appreciate it. I have no grudge or motivation to argue the point, so I'll just leave it at that. Thanks again. I did enjoy this video - you did well filming it. The shot from inside the wreck with the diver passing by, I thought was particularly well-conceived. I'd say that shot was truly inspired, creatively. It was a genuinely artistic moment imo - well done..

@@SineEyed Good questions! Its not only Alexy - almost everyone gets better performances with a monofin. Once you have the technique it is just more efficient. However the technique is not intuitive and involves a lot of core strength and using the whole body. The reasons it is more efficient incude that less turbulence is created as the body is moving as one, the body can be kept more streamlined, and the width of the fin means it is using water unaffected by the body's turbulence. Many freedivers would use bi-fins for a wreck as they make turning easier.

​@@danarkle5053 hi Dan - thanks for chiming in, I'm grateful for your time. I'm a rather science-minded kind of person (which I say with humility) so when I got to what you said about turbulence, the light really clicked on for me lol. Now _that_ I can accept as a plausible explanation. I think I can reasonably assume it to be true, that it contributes in a significant way to a diver's overall efficiency. I did end up doing some superficial digging yesterday after replying to "double-a" Daan (😉) and from what I gather, the monofin design is not exactly a ubiquitous tool which can be utilized by divers in a variety of scenarios. Rather, it seems intended to be made use of in quite specific situations e.g. diving down or coming back up. Turbulence might only be a factor to consider when it is the intention of the diver to initiate a dive which pushes beyond the constraints of what a more novice diver might limit himself to. I would presume this to be the case anyway. If a diver is concerned with efficiency, then we can infer an expectation of increased speed, depth, duration, and of course danger. This is the reasoning behind why I'm assuming the monofin to be a very specific piece of equipment. Turbulence will only become a factor where speed is of concern. Speed will only be a factor where time is of concern. Time will only be a factor where safety is of concern. So being as efficient as possible is a logical goal. Without much fuss, I would tend to agree that the monofin lends itself to increased efficiency regarding a specific and limited set of diving scenarios. However, _to what degree_ efficiency might be elevated is still a point of contention I think. When you wrote that the use of a monofin is at first unintuitive, my first thought was, "well of course it is - it's a completely unnatural means of locomotion for us". Very much so, I think. And of course it requires a lot of core muscle use - restricting the legs to simultaneous movements leaves no other choice _but_ the core. Those muscle groups weren't "designed" for locomotion though. They are meant for stabilization and support of the muscle groups that _do_ serve to move us about. Consider the cetaceans for a moment - they're pretty much a solid-core design. They're all core and no bore lol. The muscle groups in those animals have been completely overhauled and rearranged to meet the specific needs of locomotion through water. And it is only remotely coincidental that we bend front and back like they do. But just because they are efficient swimmers doesn't mean we too will be by emulating their motion. My argument is that given the unnatural motion induced by employing the monofin gives reason to question the actual efficiency gained on a dive. Moving in a way we were not designed to move does not lend itself to the idea of efficiency, to me. Being made aware of the role turbulence will play on such dives does well to soften my skepticism, but any role played by hydrodynamic forces is unreasonably complex and beyond the means of most laymen (myself included) to precisely and correctly identify. I think the only way for me to be truly convinced, I'd have to find hard data which indicated an increase in efficiency at a level anywhere above marginal. I'd need to see real-world testing, under controlled conditions and variables all accounted for. Sometimes I can be incredibly difficult to win over, I know - and I'm sorry.. 😅
