16:30 Ahh man, geology is so much cooler than we ever could have guessed as kids. I think what you're looking at here is likely part of the coastal belt which is a massive outpouring of granite and granodiorite from hundreds of millions of years ago. You find a lot of this above sea level in Squamish for example (Stawamus Chief is part of this formation), and it's insanely beautiful. Over millions of years these rocks were exposed by upwelling and erosion. During periods like the ice age in particular, tons of this granite was gradually weathered and broken down into the loose pebbles, stones, and boulders you see scattered around these huge slabs and other features. When the ice age ended, tons of these rocks that were broken apart by the expansion and contraction of ice, glacial movement, rains, etc were then covered by the rising ocean. What's cool is if you hop across the water to Denman and Hornby, you'll see much older sedimentary rocks full of fossils from as long as 90M years ago. The thing is, those sediments are mostly derived from the coastal belt rocks that you can see in this video. Absolutely crazy stuff. So the sandstone is tens of millions of years old, but the coastal belt is so old it has had time to erode and create over a kilometre thick sedimentary rock across the sea (it's call the Nanaimo Group if you're interested in learning more about it). Also someone might need to fact check me, I might have some dates or something slightly off, but this is the gist of it! Thanks again for an awesome video.

Great video. Probably a good thing you passed on the narrows those currents are crazy. There is video on YT where a tug gets in trouble pulling a barge and those currents flip the tug, it’s scary and to watch but everyone was ok.

Another great video. Kayak surfing the huge wave that forms there on an incoming tide was one of the most awesome things I've experienced. And the enormous whirlpools downstream scared the crap out of me. The Skook is a natural marvel and I hope I get to freedive it one day.

Great video! I've been double checking your feed all week for this one. I recall that pool at 5:13 was full of bull kelp last time (late 90s) I was there. It's disappointing to see the lack of kelp and tons of urchins and interestingly not many California sea cucumbers. Hopefully the kelp rebounds at some point. Nice to see an abalone though!
