100% everything you said especially the "same manufacturer ..." "different chip size" thing. Great video.

All these coconut by-products come from Thailand and surrounding areas. Exporting chips is relatively new, before then all of this was turned into charcoal for tradition charcoal bbqs or activated charcoal for making other filtration products (IIRC, Brita filters use activated charcoal derived from coconut). I've been trying to find cheaper bulk alternatives but their availability fluctuates wildly. FB is not cost effective for where I live. I don't need a lot but I like to have a lot on hand for my plants and my small collection of animals. I use the coir(e, fines) mainly as a peat alternative when repotting my tropical plants. Thanks for sharing your experience, Jason!

Definitely not cheap, but I find my animals do well on it so that is why I just suck it up and use it.

@@JasonsExoticReptiles I'm stuck north of the border for the foreseeable future: FB doesn't really have a stable supplier network up here, and what we do have is only really available at conventions (which have not happened in over a year). Even pure cypress is drying up. :\

I personally do Aspen, because I humidify my whole room. After this season, however, I'm moving into my basement. (1000'² plus the tortoises) otherwise 1300'². Haha. I may have to shift to keeping humidity high in the cages. Great points, may have to talk more after my breeding season in Colorado is over.

Yeah! The cypress absorbs some moisture from the cocoblox..but together they dont get too dry or too humid...and I can always bump the humidity if I need to.

Honestly my all around favorite substrate for snakes is still paper towels, unprinted newspaper, brown paper, Repti-Zorb, & CMC Reptile- Liners... Too be perfectly honest most of my snakes have had their absolute BEST sheds when I was using paper substrates... Yes it does have cons such as constantly cleaning and replacing paper for sanitary reasons but if you know how too utilize and keep up the humidity for snakes that require it without using the more expensive beddings I personally think it's the all around most economical and sanitary way too go! Only exception for other substrates is Zoo-Meds blocks as I do provide humidity boxes and fill them with Zoo-Med's Eco🌎Earth substrate for Viper Boas as they love 💕 burrowing into it! I've tried all the other substrates and for the most part〽️I prefer📜paper🗞️!!!😁👍😎💪🐍

I love Freedom breeder products but my spare cocoblox I had in the tub for tub changes or new snakes had some serious mold- in 2 weeks. not sure if that was my fault for wetting the whole block and then throwing the non used in a plastic tub with the lid on or what the deal was. so going to give reptichip a try this time around
@JasonsExoticReptiles
@JasonsExoticReptiles 2 года назад
It was likely too wet, but I did get a few blocks in the past order that got moldy quickly. I’d say that is the exception rather than the normal

Thanks for the review. I been using reptichip the past year and just ordered and received freedom breeder cocoblox and just like how chunky the chips are compared to reptichip. I wish there was a local dealer of cocoblox where I live. All we have is a guy that sells pro coco and that is my least favorite to, small of chip for me.

I do not. I now use gaps coco instead of freedom breeder and purchase direct from the supplier so there really isn’t any chance of anything in there that can harm reptiles. So in short, I guess it depends where you get it from.

@JasonsExoticReptiles

I do not. There is no reason. I get the bedding direct from supplier so it never sees a snake. The only reason there would be reptile mites in the bedding is if the person you bough from had mites and they hitched a ride

Mainly for security reasons I don't let people come directly here. I'm just not set up for it. With that said, usually after I meet people a few times I get a feel for them, we become friends and I eventually just have them come by. I used to do what you are asking until one clown tried to come back later that week and break in.
