This is the closest thing to an answer to creating 3D sketches that I've seen for Onshape! This is great for wiring...how hard would it be to create a version to create orthogonal lines instead of splines? That would be an answer for so many who are trying to use Onshape for piping. Thanks!!
The feature has actually been updated a good deal since this video. Check for the dropdown called "style" and choose "polyline". If you don't see that, update your feature in your toolbar by right clicking it and choosing "update".
I downloaded your Freeform spline feature about a year ago. However, I just noted that I do not have these two modes: Create and Insert. How I can fix it? Is it a new version? Where I can download it with your instructions? Thanks.
if you find it in your toolbar and right click it you should see the option to update it. Same goes for instances where it's been used in your feature tree.
The traditional way is to create a plane at one end by picking the end point and the curve, then clicking the plane feature. You can sketch a circle (or anything) on that plane to sweep along the spline. I also made a publicly-available feature that automates it called Profile Sweeper: cad.onshape.com/documents/975b17bec7bc91e361d9b9c8/w/91905a6ecc052ba2276aeb62/e/49d697b8d2a6e08265f2d72e
Hello there, this is a very cool tool you've created! I've just got a question about how to use it though. I was hoping I could use this tool as a way to 3d model some twisted rollercoaster track. I've found that my sketch of the track will follow the spline but I can't find a way to choose in what direction the track banks? Is there any way I could do this? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks! I eventually want to add more control to the curve references. Right now you can just slide the point on the curve and that's it, but eventually, I want to be able to drag the point to offset it away from the curve, and be able to rotate it around the curve, which would probably help with your issue. For now, though, consider using my 3D Points feature to add some planes at key areas. From there you can add sketch points to help guide creation of a second curve to use to guide the track. cad.onshape.com/documents/309e817bcaf616677a834985/w/ee7fdbb710c9b2bce5097f35/e/7986bc066af7b9207b9b5594
