one skill i highly recommend learning for freehand knitters is PICKING UP STITCHES! i love picking up stitches, it saves me the energy of both casting on And seaming, and it just opens a lot of doors for freehanding and for making funky shapes and constructions :)
wow this is exactly how i feel and what i needed to hear about freehand and im so glad i found this video! literally was looking for something like this for so long and its insane that more people dont talk about it! totally agree about the self confidence thing too, its like wow i??? made this??? thats so sexy of me
1. Lovee this video it is super encouraging and informative as a crochet artist who has always been frustrated by patterns. Always wanted to try freehand but was too scared lol. 2. I love how this video is filmed + edited, very calming and lovely vibe you set. You are a super cool person, thank you for inspiring me to start my freehand journey :) Love how you tie it to confidence in creativity + intuition as well, this is so so important and speaks to how our art form improves us as people. Happy creating !!
I guess I sort of freehand by starting with a pattern and changing it as I go. I made a sweater recently that started with a loose fit pattern, but I quickly decided to make it more snug and form fitting just using my own ideas. This makes me feel excited about maybe making more fully freehanded patterns in the future!
I could literally watch your videos on fiber arts all day every day ive just been watching them and crocheting and its really meditative for me and just helps now that im getting so socially and sensory stimulated every day with this work study and im so grateful that you inspired me to try it myself
for me, the whole fun of creating a piece is the problem-solving and creative decisions you have to make along the way! my favorite tip is just to try things on as you go. hold things up to your body, pull them over your head, thread a bit of yarn through the stitches and take them off the needles if you want! a great thing about freehand is that you don't *really* have to worry about gauge, because you're working with the fabric as a whole and can be a lot more flexible
This video is awesome, I've also gotten bored of patterns and want to start making things that come from my own brain. I just had no idea how to start with freehanding. Thank you for the inspiration!!
I really love your videos. Thank you for being yourself and putting your creations out into the world to inspire others. Your energy has comforted and inspired me in my own creative journey. Thank youuuuuuu
I recently discovered I could substitute easier stitches I know for ones I don’t, (like clusters, popcorn, quadruple double treble bubble stitches) and the project comes out ok. I am teaching myself Irish crochet, making small blankets and such. I will never make tops or sweaters. Too scary…
