Freehand Quilting On Scrap Fabrics: Use To Sew A Patchwork Cushion!

We love the feel of a plump quilted cushion and here’s a way to create your own just using scraps of coordinating fabric and leftover wadding pieces in a mish-mash fashion that looks stunning when completed.
Easy freehand quilting is the key to pulling all those random pieces together, and Corinne Bradd uses a good quality coloured thread to give a strong design accent to your piece. Whether you opt for simple straight lines, grids, circles, a more fluid and organic pattern, or a mixture of all four - you’ll love the tactile appeal of your pillow, especially as it will have cost you next to nothing to create.

More sewing vids please! They’re my favourite. I love this idea of quilting the individual pieces before sewing them together! Beautiful, thank you.

Shh, they're my favourite too but we try and offer something for everyone! I don't have a long arm machine for quilting so doing the individual bits seemed like the ideal work around, c x

@@TheCraftsChannel great resource for ideas...ive made lots of the little knot bags. im liking the patchwork recently too so this video came at good time and i think you def have to make the jacket

@@cherriesnhoney 😆 I crocheted myself a granny square hoodie which I'm too underconfident to wear in public. There's no way I'd have the guts to wear a patchwork jacket!

Thank you for another great video. I love this channel and watch all your videos avidly. I also happen to think you're an excellent presenter, and although I can't do things such as using a sewing machine, I still get much enjoyment from your programming. You're very clever!!!

I'd wear it too, if only I could find a jacket pattern that was flattering enough to make me look like a size 12! c x

Would I need to back the interior of the fabric if I’m making a cushion? Also if I made a quilt using this this technique would I need to stitch across the backing material to keep it together? Also thinking of making a children’s reversible jacket. Thank you for the informative video. 😊

I would back the interior, with something like an old cotton sheet, and then simply quilt the layers together on the straight lines, or even hand tack together at regular intervals, c x

Love this method! Do you use a particular kind of thread for the quilting stitches? Thanks for all you do & share! 9:51

I think I used a Mettler 100% cotton top stitch thread for the quilting just because it's a little thicker than the ordinary thread I use so the stitches stand out more, c x

I notice that your rotary cutter is set up for right handed cutting although you are left handed. The blade should run alongside the ruler, which should make it easier for you for cutting. The cutter you have the blade can fitted either side. I always taught never to cut towards you with the rotary cutter but away from you. I’ve been quilting and using a cutter for a number of years.

Yes, it is usually set up the other side but my daughter is right handed and has a habit of 'borrowing' my stuff! Only realised she'd changed it when I went to use it in the filming and didn't want to interrupt the demo. I've been told many, many times not to cut towards myself but after years of cutting things with a scalpel it's a really hard habit to break and I also find I have much less control when I push, c x
