» ABOUT THE GAME - X4: Foundations is a space simulation where players can explore a vast universe, trade goods, build and manage space stations, and engage in space combat. The game offers player agency, offering an expansive sandbox where players can choose their path, whether as a trader, builder, explorer, or combat pilot. It is a very complex game so the series will be a mix of tutorial and Let's Play making the game accessible for new players.
» ABOUT THE MINISERIES - X4 Foundations is a slow burn game meaning it takes quite a long time to do anything of consequence. I'm playing the Young Gun scenario with no DLCs or mods. The goal of this series is to showcase the game as much as I can in the allotted time. As a Tutorial/Let's Play hybrid I'll be focusing on showing as many facets of the game rather than solely focusing on a single goal. I'll also be interspersing game tutorials when the tutorial becomes relevant to the series as well.
» NO SPOILERS / NO BACKSEATING - The story and mechanics of this games are best enjoyed as they are discovered, not spoiled, so no spoilers in the comments please. I really appreciate the effort you put into learning games that you play because if i was just watching this without the explanations and stuff I'd be so lost. Definitely one of the better let's players out there.

Enjoying these videos! I heard good things about X2 back in the day, bought all of X up to X3, and according to Steam I've played about 60 hours of X3:TC - but I don't remember any of it. Last played in 2011. I played a huge amount of Freelancer back in the day, loved Freespace 2, and before that a load of X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Not sure why I've stopped playing space sims as I used to enjoy them... maybe the complexity got on top of me? Anyhow, really need to pick something up and give them another try now.

Travel engines is ALWAYS BAD. It's a n00b trap we have been telling the devs to fix for years. Travel engines take X time to start raising the speed. Combat Engines start right away, there is no sectors large enough that the travel drive can catch up to a combat ship, not only that but ships don't fly perfectly, they will drop in and out of travel speed several times going past a sector.

There is an exception to that rule, if your ship has amazing boost and shield capacity you can boost up to travel speed and then engage travel engines to go faster than what combat engines could do for you, its tricky but possible

The way you described the trade overlay isn't exactly accurate. The number of dots show the size of the _trade order_ there. So when you are selling to a station the number of dots are telling you how much _more_ stock they want rather than what they have. In the other direction, when you're buying the number of dots is how much the station wants to sell. It's only when the station both buys and sells something (like trade stations and some combined/multi-stage factories) that the dots directly map to the station's inventory.
