The Max ALWAYS makes me smile when I first walk into its' cargo bay and I have no idea why. However, it's out-classed by the Taurus (ESPECIALLY if you can still find the Taurus at the old $150 price point). Still, as mentioned here in the comments if CIG does what they said they'd do the FL series will be the largest ships that can fit through the small jump points. If this stays true then the Max is the king of the smaller, more multi-purpose cargo ships.

There really is something about the Max’s cargo bay thats exciting, but it’s hard to pin down haha. I think for me it reminds me of a toy truck, but the grown up space hauler version; it’s just yearning for adventure! And my hat off to those who picked the Taurus then too, some of those early ship savings were crazy! And I’d also be very curious if the Max falls within the smallest jump point size limit, or if it’s just the DUR and the rest of the line 🤔 Either way it gets me excited for jump points and Pyro in the hopefully not too distant future 🤞

Sentimental favorite for me is the FreeMax. The Freelancer "Space Trucker" commercial from way back is what lured me to SC. Seeing the FreeMax is when I fell in love. Real money purchase was the FreeMax while I always buy a Connie in game.

Taurus wins in almost every way. Cargo, firepower, shields. The Freelancer being smaller, is a bit more maneuverable and doesn't need quite so much open space for landing. In my opinion it's best feature over the Taurus is the security of the side door. It requires an animation. Door opens, you get out, door closes. There is no time for some intruder to sneak aboard like when you use a ramp or elevator.
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum 11 месяцев назад
That's an awesome point I hadn't even considered regarding the locked animation! And I agree completely, unless the Max can fit in smaller jump points, the Taurus takes the win every time!

As much as I try other ships for multi-role fun, so far I keep coming back to the Taurus! It's usefulness is often underestimated.

I love the taurus because you can take it bounty hunting with its decent guns and huge shields then gobble up all the containers of contraband the bad guys drop with the beam.
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum Месяц назад
And its even better with 3.23 having 4xS5! The Taurus is honestly such a sleeper, but arguably the best medium sized multi role ship in the game!
@chrisajokinen

one future consideration will be jump point travel as ships size will matter. FL Max is medium and ConTaurus is large. So as I understand it ship size will have limits on routes you can use. In a nutshell the connie will need to use longer routes than the FL-Max. I want to say, someone stated in the past the Max will be the largest ship that can navigate a small jp. But I slept since then so take that with a grain of salt
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum 11 месяцев назад
Yea I'm really curious if they keep the jump points as you mentioned. If so, the Max would have a tremendous utility with those smaller jump points!

If you are only hauling cargo then the Taurus. ROC mining then the max. Jacking multiple trades, I lean towards the max.

I tend to use the Taurus for everything, especially after its tractor beam was introduced. But the Max is still a solid choice!
@awsm253
@awsm253 11 месяцев назад
I'm sure further into Development, or release, The size will definitely be something to consider. I see people mentioning Jump Point Limitations. But there may also be things like being able to fit and squeeze into small areas on Planets, or utilize smaller Landing Platforms. There 'was' A mention in the original Freelancer trailer that it had a 'low signature'? So could also be a potentially sneaker freighter than its much larger competition.

I didn't realize how beefy the Taurus is, will have to try it eventually. Usually I get my ships with auec in game, it's nice that the max is still comparable while being more affordable. Great review though, it helps a lot seeing similar ships side by side.

Got a Taurus in my fleet today, upgraded from a fury to get that LTI, lol. It might become a Andromeda next month but I’ll see how much it grows on me. I don’t see myself keeping it because I use the C2 as a hauler so I think the Andromeda will serve me better but we will see.
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum 10 месяцев назад
Congrats on your pickup! And those are some great points, and excellent food for thought! I think given your lineup the Andromeda could fill an excellent role alongside the C2 over the Taurus as well, but the Taurus could still live on with a ton of utility in your fleet; its definitely a hard choice!
@AlbandAquino
@AlbandAquino 11 месяцев назад
There's ONE thing you didn't took into account, Size for Jump Points. The Free MAX can take S1, the Taurus will have to use S2, so you'll have to take a "longer" route.

I currently have the MIS and DUR.. I upgraded MISC to the Prospector, sold the MAX to upgrade an LTI Hover-quad to the DUR... I hope to see the Exploration gameplay soon.. .. I too, still, get a smile when I walk onto the rear cargo hatch of any of the Freelancers, I get this feeling of "I am home, and I am safe" . Still deciding whether to sell the MIS to get the Taurus or maybe C1. And buyback the MAX when they "Gold Pass" it 😉
@ViciDeum

I think that's a fantastic descriptor for the Freelancers, and an excellent testament to the ship designers (along with the original Serenity design from Firefly)!

I absolutely LOVE the MAX, it was my first actual cargo ship. But the Taurus is hands down the better ship, it has more cargo capacity, a more convenient cargo hold for vehicle loading and better combat stats. If you want a multi role ship that dose a good job in most cases, the MAX is great but the Taurus is excellent.
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum 10 месяцев назад
I completely agree! The Max is a fantastic ship, but since the introduction of the Taurus it just doesn't have the same performance!
@alvin41712

I would say that the max and Taurus is in two different price classes, the max for 2.2mil* and Taurus for 3.3mil*, if u already grinded a extra 1.2mil* why not grind a extra 1.4mil* to get too the Caterpillar. *aUEC Why I say is, that Taurus in my opinion is better but it's more expensive so price is important part too.

Vici you forgot the big importent stuff. their size, and their ability to use small wormholes, the max should be able to take even small wormholes where the Taurus should be restricted to medium and up... unless they chage that part, i doubt they will... So the Max will be able to take short routes as the "biggest" small ship in the game atm
@ViciDeum
@ViciDeum 11 месяцев назад
That's a fantastic point, being able to use small wormholes would dramatically increase the versatility of the Max!

@Poxtor
@Poxtor 10 месяцев назад
havent heard that the MSR could use small jump points. But if you look at it the MSR have 2xmedium shield gen. The Connie have an Large shield gen. so there is a clear differnce, in the class of ships. But again i havent heard that the MSR can use small jump points. If you look at it this way, if the Connie can use small jump points then why cant the Cat then, and if so, what is the meaning with differnt sieces jump points... It make no sence if so. So maybe your right, but i do firmly belive that the Connie cannot use small jump points @@bezdownunder5481

I see in comments most people saying that Taurus is better than Free Max. Outside the fact that security inside Max should be better thanks to better protection against sneak people. But noone here is saying that Taurus is at least 50$ more expensive than Max. And in-game, Free Max is around 2 millions and Taurus cost 3 millions. All is depending what people want to do with their money. And noone should forget that these ships are not done to make war but defend themselves sometimes.
@ViciDeum

The Constellation Class is OP in therms of PVP. The Regular Freelancer and especcialy MAX feels very slugish in Combat. Its not really better in therms of Accelittion or maneuverability in comparison to the Constellation Taurus/Andromeda Class. Its like, the Freelancer is 10% Faster, but 90% less Durable. Its a Joke. Vs Pirats i feel much more Safe in a Taurus then in a Freelancer Max. Eighter the Freelancer need a Speed/maneuverability Buff or the Constellation Class a slight Speed nerf. Last weekend i Fightet with a Reliant Kore (Light Fighter with Speed of a Medium) vs a Constellation Taurus. I have done 80% of my Power to my Shields and Guns to Fight Back, and only 20% on my Thrusters. But with this, i never Catched the Taurus. Everytime i got under/behind her, the Taurus Booster Straigt Forward and before i turned around, the Taurus was 1500m away and out of my Gunrange. That happend 3-4 Times in a Row and then i Explode. I never damaged her Shields really. I never Lost Against a Freelancer Max in my Lightfighter.
