I'm 100% with you. People don't stop and think about how their actions affect others. Smoke and drink all you want. Stop and take a selfie. Do what you want. But take a second and look around and see who else you might be affecting. Be excellent to each other.
Keep ‘m coming bro! Even though I didn’t like half of the performances I love seeing it. And you’re 100000% correct on people should have some manners. Taylor Dane was great ❤
I would've gotten annoyed about the weed or tobacco smoking, but taking your son you were in dad and husband mode, it happens to me. You can't have a good time because your are on defense mode. Imagine you were 21 with your buds at the same concert same situation, you'd probably tolerate it and join in and have a great time..... so yeah, I think it's our age.... great video though, music brought back lots of memories.
Watching this I could just imagine Kurt mid 90s rolling deep in the 'Zuki blasting all these killer jams-I know cuz I was doing the same in my '64 Impala👻🕺🏻 🔈🔥🔈🔥🕺🏻 EDIT: Original comment was premature. After hearing how inconsiderate people were at the show it made me realize again why we love 80s Life, you remind us of a better time we remember. When people didnt live through their phones and internet and had more common courtesy of others. So grateful I grew up in those times. 🙏🏼
Great Video. Thank you for posting. Billy Joel concert was the same last month. Every street corner in NYC. Six Flags everywhere in the parking lot. Can't escape it.
As a cannabis smoker myself i would never smoke in public around people , i always go find somewhere where nobody is around. People like that will be disrespecful no matter what there doing . Shameful
Amazing concert! I totally agree with you about drinking and smoking. I have been to many concerts and noticed lately some people just don't care anymore and will stand in your way smoke in your face even had people burping real loud for a amount of time which made one concert unbearable that I can't remember the songs the band was playing and never went back to the venue unless I have a seat. I will never sit on a lawn again. So I get totally what you are saying. Taylor Dane looked and sounded great!
WOW!!! AWSOME GREAT 80S SONGS,,,.. I LIVE DOWN THE STREET THREE BLOCKS SINCE 1998 I NEED TO CHECK THIS OUT IN A GOOD WAY... YOU ARE SO RIGHT(((( I SAW THAT PUFFER)))) IN FRONT OF YOU THAT WOULD DRIVE ME CRAZY SMELLING SOMEONES BREATH SMOKE!!!!!!! GREAT SONGS..THX.
Awesome show, reminds me of Summer Jam 1988 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Cali that went on for 12 hours with Stevie B., Taylor Dane, Sweet Sensation, Expose, Cover Girls, Al B. Sure, Keith Sweat, Pebbles, Atlantic Starr, LL Cool J etc. Other than, I was drunk as hell when I snuck a baby bottle filled with Stoli Vodka inside a can of Pringles, and my girlfriend's uncle snuck in with a Dimebag
I believe I still have most of those 12" singles from my 80s/90s D.J. days. What a great flashback! BTW, I'm with you 100% on people not being courteous to others.
I agree with you. I was one of those douchebags that smoked at my seat. I would do it all the time during the Raggae Sunsplash Festival. I finally wised up and smoked at secluded area of the Greek. I have thank my friend Lowegi for pointing out my inconsiderate behavior. I also want to thank you for having these videos. I currently live in Colorado Springs, and your channel gets me closer to the Old Los Angeles. The old Los Angeles I miss so much. Your right we're getting old. Lack of consideration and respect. Again thank you for these videos.
Bro I love this channel and all your vids, now knowing cyou are into freestyle, you and this channel just went next level! I LOVE 80’s and 90’s FREESTYLE!!! 😎😎😎🤘🤘🤘
80s life, I’m with you. I wouldn’t enjoy a concert if people around you were smoking and drinking. The only performers I would like to see there were Expose and Lisa Lisa.
Since they made smoking weed legal in California, everybody's smoking it, and it's irritating. A lot of Hispanics attend those Freestyle concerts to get jack'd up on weed & alcohol and a lot of times they get stupid. I used to D.J. a lot of Hispanic parties because I live in Oxnard, CA. where the majority population is Hispanic and many of them got drunk or high and would mess with me while I was doing my D.J. set and many times I got mad & stopped doing them. Freestyle is a good genre of music to listen to but Egyptian Lover & Rodney O are not considered "Freestyle" they're more Electro/Hip-Hop. I have to admit Trinere, Taylor Dayne & Brenda K. Starr still looked pretty good for being in their 50's. I know how you feel about people being inconsiderate to others, it's frustrating that you can't really say anything without getting into a confrontation with them. Things are way worst now then they were in the '80s. Love your channel.
Thanks for the post, highlights and review. Agree that Taylor Dayne should've headlined. On the flip side re: the drunken, high, rude ass ppl, I don't regret missing this concert.
What's crazy is i saw most of these groups back in 1988 and 1989 at Palads and other clubs in Queens NY when i was a freshman and sophomore in high school, Now they are playing Griffith Park ..And I was there in LA just last week ..Nuts
Love these. I took a shuttle from a lower parking lot last time I went there. Don’t worry about Stevie B. I saw him some years ago at the Queen Mary and he was baddddd Would love to see Timmy T though
Damn bro I was going say that fog machine right in front of you was really going off! LoL 😆 Yeah taking your kids to a concert down south in the greater L.A. area is probably not a good idea, your right people should be more considerate, but we know that they are not. Dude you should show off your drip more, us 80s and 90s kids want to see your gecko pants and what ever 80s style shoes your wearing. I see your cool t shirts let's see the rest of the outfit! Good vid! 🤘😁👍
Call me old fashioned, but if it's an all ages event/open to minors, there should be a complete smoking ban. I know it's technically open-air, but it's still a seated venue and reasonably enclosed.
These days people have become more obnoxious and self-centered, no common courtesy at all (or common sense for that matter) it is unfortunately the world we live in now a days and people only seem to be getting worse. Great video, thumbs up, God bless.
Somewhere in my stuff I have a 8x10 publicity still signed by the members of Expose from 1987. One of the member's personal assistant or agent was a client of the law firm in Los Angeles where my aunt worked at the time.
I never been to a freestyle concert but I have a lot of friends who did. They are a crazy bunch of people, they smoke weed, and get jacked up and these are people in their late 40s lol. It’s like going to a Dodger game, except crazier.
Great video, love all old freestyle stuff. Brenda K Starr would've been the highlight for me, loved her stuff ever since I bought the License to Drive soundtrack. Taylor Dayne was incredible as ever, definitely should've been the headline act.
I agree with you 💯 it’s sad that everyone thinks it’s kool to smoke next to someone !!!!!! Shame on them!!!!! Such good freestyle bands. Thanks 🙏 for video
This stuff was my older sister's music back in the '80s and she still blasts it today. It's cool that the artists are still performing. Some of the crowd looks like they weren't even born when this was on the radio (Power 106) and MTV. Freestyle allows them to experience a more innocent time and places that they weren't around for, like listening to '50s to '70s rock does for me.
That was an amazing line up Kurt. I grew up with that music and the mini trucks. Downside is that music does attract the older gangsters. Im sorry you had to leave early. Wish Lil Suzy was there. Thanks for the videos Kurt.
In NYC they used to call this beatstock. I went a few times, but 2003 was the best. Some girls sold us backstage passes on the way in for $10 a person. Once they proved the pass worked we bought and went backstage. Backstage, Somehow, I got mistaken for Eminem and brought onto the stage with my friends. Idk how, lol, I look nothing like him. They quickly figured it out, but let us stay on stage for the whole show anyway since we had backstage passes. Met, hungout took pics and autograph of EVERY act. Amazing day.
i been to few freestyle concerts, Stevie B is always the headlined if he's there performing.. I think they should have a section of non smoking, concerts is for all ages, sorry u had to experience that, over all im sure the performance were good.. thank u for the video wish I was there too.... d-_-b
Taylor Dayne is a survivor and really shined, agree she should have headlined! I have loved going to concerts since I was 14-15, I’m 50 now and people have definitely gotten worse with the bad behavior and are more inconsiderate than ever. It’s not just us getting old. I hate to be the buzzkill person too…what’s a music fan to do??
Smoking and drinking?! Wow! I'm surprised it wasn't enforced. It reminds of the old punk rock shows back in the 80s. Olympic Auditorium, Roxy, Whisky and Anti Club. Plus the fights, vomiting, drunkenness and stage diving. Everyone smoked cigarettes except me. Lol 😆
That was an accurate assessment of that event. I was there a few months ago to see confunkshun and the whispers and pretty much the same crowd. Girls drunk and stumbling and many clouds of smoke.
Hell nah! I would never go these type of gothic event. If you want the real LatinFreestyle vibe you will never get it. Just the fact that the clothing is not the same as the 80’s and sitting in broad daylight, Really? Back in my days it was the Clothing, The Cars and the cassette music on the Alpine, Pioneer or Sony stereo that you recorded blasting and much much more, and don’t forget that amazing smell of girls wearing Malibu Musk perfume.
Dude, I'm with you on the smoking, smoking weed and excessive drinking. Not sure why people can't just go to a show and enjoy the music and be able to have some semblance of a memory of the experience.
Right? It's a concert. People want to listen to the music. I think people tend to forget why they are there. If they want to get drunk and not pay attention to the performers, go to a bar or club.
Pretty cool seeing many of the artists I remember growing up. I actually LOVED Expose back in the day...couldn't go to a dance without at least one Expose song playing. And that was a cool cover they did...funny thing is that I love that song, but have no idea what the actual song is, or who did it...I just recall it being the song from the strip joint that Teri Hatcher was dancing to in 'Tango & Cash'...someone feel free to let me know the name of the song!!!! It was also cool seeing Brenda K Starr...hadn't heard that song in forever, but after hearing it, I recall 'I Still Believe' being a song I danced to at my senior prom.
The 1980s I love back in the day I remember freestyle music from Stevie B. The Cover Girls sock fire many artists from the freestyle era of the 1980s just right here with some unbelievable
IF you are going to smoke weed , I agree have some consideration for people around you especially if you have your son next to you and the smoke is going toward you guys...... been there many times and I did not know that was the Griswald's home as you walk up to the Greek Theater
You got to understand the crowd which are mostly older had this planned for awhile, got a sitter, dressed to the 9's so they can cut loose for one night and relive their teenage years through music...can you blame them for getting rowdy. But that does not excuse common courtesy. Kudos to you for not being a snitch lol
Can't even take your kid to a concert anymore without inconsiderate animals ruining it. Take edibles in public like civilized humans. Interesting to see those performances. I was around when all of that was new but I was a hard rocker and metal guy so I hated all of it. Recognized a lot of the songs though and I no longer hate them but nothing I would listen to on my own.
If you want to get high at a show bring gummies FFS! Smoking bowls like that in a public venue, especially for a show like that, is inconsiderate as hell! Its to be expected at a phish show or whatever but not something like this. I smoke occasionally but i dont want someone blowing clouds of skunky weed in my face while im trying to enjoy a show.
People that go to those concerts are ghetto let's be honest. It's high sock city I grew up around it. I had someone once pull out a gun at the Greek at a oldies concert. Never again.
Love your channel, but I respectfully disagree with your take here. Expecting people not to smoke, drink, or take photos at a concert isn't very realistic. Also, it might have been all ages, but given that freestyle's heyday was in the 1980s and the average Gen X'er is well into their 50s now, the concert was aimed squarely at adults. If you choose to take a child into that environment, that's on you. Maybe you should stick to more family friendly stuff if that's the vibe you're looking for?
