Freestyle Maximum Destruction Monster Jam World Finals 2004 

I was at this World Finals in 2004. And I can still remember the smoke building more and more on the track to the point where no one could see the truck on the track. A true testament to the insanity of Tom Meents and & Maximum Destruction...

2004-2012 was the peak of the sport.

It’s funny how people either say that this run shouldn’t have won and some are saying that it’s one of the greatest freestyles in the history of monster jam. I personally think this is one of the best ever. Most drivers would’ve been done after that. This is the run that defined Maximum Destruction. Go big or go home, never quit, and literally drive the truck into the ground. Tom Meents is the goat

Not to be mean to Lupe Soza or Madusa but this was the only run worthy of the win.

Up until about 2013 Monster Jam was treated and felt like a true motorsport. Almost all the trucks were run by independent drivers, they had signature moves, personalities, rivalries, actually competing for something that felt valuable. Then all the truck names were sold out for the sake of merchandise income. Tracks had distinctive dirt and layouts that gave viewers an excited expectation of what they may see and the drivers had to adjust for it regularly. Scott Douglas and Ken Stout sounded genuinely passionate and kept your unwavering attention. It had the perfect blend of character to appeal equally well toward adults and kids. Now it's basically a spec series run like the WWE on wheels with choreographed runs focused on cartoonish trucks. Back then you knew every driver just as well as the truck's name. Like Nascar the star burned so bright we couldn't see how money was tainting the heart of it until the deconstruction was over.

This will forever be the greatest display of sheer will and determination of a monster truck driver ever.

I went to Monster Jam this past weekend. Terrible. Slow paced, trucks were running about 40% of the show and no vehicle crushing. Not like I remember as a kid.

Can't agree with this being part of the 3 way tie at all, Madusa too. He had 4 good hits, a bad donut. After that he spent the last minute driving in circles with no flow simply pushing the truck till it blew. It was entertaining to watch Tom give it everything with broken machinery, but he didn't truly fill the clock, nor was there any substance to the rest of the run after the motor home hit. Compared to the El Toro, it was the weaker and I honestly think bias from the judges is why he got such a high score.

Maximum destruction was so sick back in the day with Tom ments

Watching Tom's redemption on this run was so satisfying from the embarrassing freestyle from the previous World Finals.

Who misses the old Max-d truck?

I honestly thought he deserved the win. Great run from Tom Meents and truly does live up to the name Maximum Destruction!!!!

That truck is more broken than Monster Jam right now.

Imho, the single greatest freestyle for monster trucks.

2004 was the best World Finals ever, and this is the single best monster truck freestyle run of all time. It’s runs like this that you just don’t get when they take cars, busses, semi trailers, etc. away. Them taking obstacles out of it is the reason monster jam is a dead sport now,

I think tom meents is atleast half the reason Dennis Anderson started shucking his whole family into the competition just to have better odds against tom. Those two always brought the best out of each other

The relentlessness of Meents was the reason why he tied Lupe Soza and Madusa for the title

The funny thing about this run is that he was the only driver who filled the clock, despite his truck being damaged after that.

0:40 "he manages to keep all the parts and pieces on it" and then the truck breaks next hit, the year prior was embarrassing for him and he wasn't going to have that again, surprised the wheel held on that whole time despite looking like it's was hanging on by a thread
