It's actually crazy knowing Jay-Z nor Beanie Sigel were on the song at first! Freeway said Jay was supposed to only say "Keep going" in the background, but the second he heard the track itself, he immediately freestyled his verse and Sigel followed after. Great music brings out such a great vibe in everyone.
Just heard this again after so many years. Forgot how well he rides the flow and his voice is unmistakable. Truly painting us a picture of his character and motivations through a hard ass verse.
Bruh just watch an interview on how this song was made and that’s how Jay got on the song because he wanted Hov to lay those adlibs then Hov jumped on the song.
"But still I cry tears of a hustler, wipe tears from my mother, pour out beer for my brothers, that's above us make beds for the babies tuck kids under covers buy cribs for they mothers" (Beans)
As a kid I used to say jay killed this...as an adult I realize jay just hit it with a dope flow and clever lines...freeway and beans talked from the heart and the perspective of being and showing just because they dealt drugs didn't make them bad guys...they just did WHATEVER it took to make sure there Family and friends eat...there verses were too real for my young mind to comprehend
Same here..and its so sad and depressing that music like this isnt being made anymore and if it were wouldn't be appreciated..this was during times where hip hop had substance and gave a chill down your spine and you could actually relate to the artist because the substance of their music was what most people dealt with and were going through st the present time..now its bentleys throwing racksnin the club and rockin gucci and living in mansions..smdh the majority of us will never experience those things..but what beans freeway nas tupac eminem and all the old school artists would rap about?? We were living it and experiencing it all on a daily basis..RIP HIP HOP/RAP you held me together in my younger years and brought emotjon and motivation out of me..youll always be missed but never forgotten..because your voice can still be heard by the greatists of all time
If this song doesn't make you violently nod your head, you haven't been through the struggle. Easily one of the most prolific Hip Hop songs ever. Beans, Freeway, and Hov all shined on this one.
For real! This was like a hip hop relay. Passing the mic like runners pass the baton. Flow tight AF from verse to verse. Sounds just as good now is it did the first time I heard it back in the day
If you knew anything about the justice system you'd know cops don't have the power to throw away the key. That's higher up in the justice system. Cops sole purpose is to gather evidence in your case against you to initiate getting you locked up. If you are committing crimes I see nothing wrong with them doing their jobs. Y'all have these one sided conversations about police locking you up but you forget about the part where you commit the crime.
Man im glad i grew up in this Era 2023 and still my shit 🔥🔥🔥.. feel sorry for the younger generation not being able to experience thos types of vibes..

Shout out my 80s baby niggas.....I used to always hear old folks say that certain music took them back to where they were when they first heard it.....This takes me back to my 18 year old self.....31 now and I've changed a lot, but I feel like a teen again when I hear this.
tswagg504 We still here mane and going to rep the 90s era like no other; I'm 31 too and I remember lyricism and aknowledgment of the struggle like it should be.
Back in the day when Roc-A-Fella literally had the best rappers in the game (Jay-Z, Beenie, Freeway, Bleek, Cam'ron & Dipset, Kanye West). A huge loss to rap when it fell apart. Props for them having The Wire cast in this video. Still the best TV show ever to air til this day.
I listen to this song AT LEAST once a week. I solidified PERSONAL class. Production, bars, and message. These guys were on top of the world for a minute!
@@SundaywithSamuel : I think his son died from a accidental overdose, and his daughter died from cancer 😏 R.I.P. to both his children ✊🏾 No parent should have to bury their kid / kids before them.
Imagine if Rocafella stayed together. Talking Jay, Kanye, Freeway, Beans, Dipset. Putting out 6-9 albums a year. Damn.... be like the Boston Celtics winning 10 plus titles in a row.
Never looked it at that way but if that were to happen , Ye wouldn't find Cudi , Travis Scott ,( Pusha T . Even though Push put in the WORKS back in the day ) .
