And RCInformer gives the Freewing F-14 Tomcat TEN FANTASTICS!!! Lol. Beautiful plane that I will most likely have to admire from afar. Good flyin' as always!
I like the video because of a very important thing it teaches the most important lesson a pilot can learn Walk before you run .... Approaches touch and goes slow fly's will keep your model flying Not sweeping the wings on the maiden shows respect for the aircraft this is not fear it's smart I bet more than a few have wrecked these on maidens Good job
Rich. I will just say WOW. She flies awesome or as you put it Holly crap. you did exactly what I do when I get a new plane. Just take it easy and figure out how to land it first. The good stuff will come once you get comfortable with the big bird. Nice job friend 👍👍👍. Tell the beautiful FLY girl Aimee I said hello. Have a great night 😎
Its all about the flaps! Use about 10 to 15 degrees of flaps for takeoff and you will liftoff easier and in a shorter distance:) Flaps will get you in the air quicker:)
That is true! In some cases I will do no flap take offs with my jets if I’ve got a steady headwind that’s strong enough but in dead calm air I always use flaps, love your videos my friend 👍
His nerves were up a little. Trust me he usually doesn't do the gum chewing. Next time he flys this monster he will be back to his old self again. Chew away Rich.
DAMN...Your vids are very informative as I build mine!!! Just a little OCD for me with the mouth sounds. Would have been a better vid if you weren't chewing gum with the mic in your mouth!! And I do know it was 5 years ago. Mic have come a long way!!
Sweet flight Rich... I do have this bird and it's an amazing flyer. And yes I took out all up elevator on my landing because it didn't need it. Maybe when using full span flaps like RCgeek does, do you need up elevator. It'll also take much larger packs. I took out the top tray and removed some foam out back till where the spar is and can fit 2x6s6500 75c. These get me about 6-7 min flight time...
When you ran those flaps down it was more like 80°not 40° and the take off setting was more like 30° not 10°...sorry but I dont want people confused man
Great Vid Rich. You tied it all together nicely and have taken a plane that there has crazy amounts of data and personal opinions on and, proved its a SOLID reliable performer! Utilizing the 4000'S was a great touch! Looking forward to your tuning and other battery reviews. :-)
That looks so nice up in the air. Im going to do my 1st EDF this year i think maybe ill be ready for this one in 2 years but i think this made my list to fly
Thanks for the video. I just finished building mine and wish I had seen your tray mod. Have you had a chance to make changes and fly again? I have a feeling your pitch up issue is because rc geeks running full span flaps. I did my maiden with full span last week and it was spot on. I love this plane! I had issues with one of the motors out of the box and the replacement as I was taxiing for the 2nd flight, so I’m swapping them both out for Schubeler ds-38’s. Can’t wait to get it in the air again.
You can still put the tray in, it's just more work... at about 3:00 in the rcgeeks video, he shows the stock flap setup with a bunch of elevator pitch which was incorrect... he told me that when he filmed it, he forgot to take out the pitch that he programmed in for the full span flaps... I copied this from his video but it was incorrect, which is why my plane was pitching up:( I was kinda surprised that he had left this incorrect information in his video as it can trip folks up:( I should have the next video out soon!
Hey skiter who we have up their , COUGER and MERLIN & MAVERICK and GOOSE , great MAVERICK&GOOSE , merlin you see a trailer, negative goose he looks like a single.
Excellent video, I’ve been afraid of this jet however after watching your video i May have to have one, really enjoy seeing you doing videos for Motion RC, I’ve set up other jets of mine like you’ve said and they fly great, thanks again and keep em comin 👍🏼
Have you set up your Spektrum radio yet for swept wing? Mixing out the ailerons and flaps. The RC Geek sent me a model file that he got from a friend. He doesn't utilize a Spektrum transmitter so his radio set up would work for me.
RCINFORMER thanks. That would be a great video. You could do a whole 30 minute video on just the set up of the radio. BTW, your videos are the best. I like that you show more then just an assembly video. I wish I had your video when I was putting mine together.
Is that the VF2 Bounty Hunters paint scheme?? I was an Aviation Ordnanceman in VF2 back in 1996-1998. Worked on these exact Tomcats with this same paint scheme!
Mighta been a typo. Normally flaps give you a pitch up so you program in a little nose down. When you get this baby dialed in, take it up and do some slow flight and 1/4 power stall demos at altitude to demo what is does. You might be pleasantly surprised. Good to know what it flies like a the lowest air speeds for landing confidence. It appears to corner on rails so stall recoveries should be easy up high. As a modeler for 50 years, its amazing you can take open a box and, with minor assembly, roll out a stunner like that. And it flies so well. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Nice flight Rich, really impressive flight envelope, I get what your saying about being a little nervous on maiden flights, I going to maiden my E-flite F-15 Eagle 64 mm this weekend, its only elevator and ailerons and steerable nose gear, no rudder, flaps or retracts, not much in the manual as far as control settings, so I'm going very shallow with the inputs and a lot of expo on the first flight, no gyro's either, I fly better with out them.....
Wow, such an amazing replica. It looks like the F-14 I saw at the air shows. If they could only replicate what the twin engines felt like to your body as it passed.
my school's aviation club is planning to purchase one of these so that we can do flyovers for our school's sporting events! came here to research what its like to fly this bird, thanks for a good example of the capabilities of this model!
That could be done. However, you would need to have a very skilled pilot and be able to do it without flying over people... It could easily take off and land from a high school running track or well groomed field
I knew you would like it. Like a dove, as soon as you took off and made your first turn. I heard the confidence come into your voice. Good flight brother
Started to fly with small choppers then bigger ones then a Rc Fighter 5.0 and now a Topacc HLK 31...but as a "noob" with those big ones planes, i rather make the good choice. ( i use to fly very carefully) excuse my english im french 😂😂😂
Also, I'm working on a grass field upgrade to address that very issue... The gear is plenty strong, it's the mounts that may need to be a bit stronger.... I have reengineered the gear mounts and will put it all out in video form soon:)
@@RCINFORMER I look forward to that, I would really like to get this model at some point, but need to make sure it can cope with a grass stripe. Cheers
keep in mind that I was only using about 10-15 degrees of flaps... This was because I had programmed in to much up elevator for the full flap setting. It lands fine with just a little bit of flaps.
Probably 200-300 feet on pavement... Only because there are ball bearings in the wheels and this thing just keeps on rolling... It would be a lot less on grass and we may do a grass field demo soon
I need a runway like down there, Markham Park like, in Central PA. We have about 300foot macadam and only 15ft wide. If not perfect approach, I know I'm ripping my retacts out on my dual edf jets.
@@brucebeamer2298 You would be able to takeoff there with with no problem, landing and stopping before the end of the runway would be more challenging there.... I am working on improving the strength of the gear mounts for grass use:) I may make a video of that...
@@whoknows8678 Dude, that's my girlfriend.... no stock photos here.... I snapped those photos with my Android a few days before I made the videos:) She's my real American Beauty... The Official RCINFORMER "FLYGIRL"
Nice flight! F14s are great fliers! On the stock control setup, it shouldn’t need much mix at all with the flaps. However, if you do my full span flap mod drooping both the flaps and the ailerons, then the airplane needs a considerable amount of up trim with the flaps.
@@Thercgeek I noticed in your video of the STOCK FLAP set up, you had quite a bit of elevator deflection in that clip... that is why I pre-programmed so much in there... I wonder if in that portion of your video you may have not taken out all that much mix that you had set up for the full span setup? This plane seems to land perfectly with 10° to 15° of flaps when it is this light.
RCINFORMER I went back and saw what you were talking about. That’s a mistake on my part. I was simply showing the functions, in that b roll. I wanted to show the basic functions so I simply by plugged the ailerons back into the control board to get the clip, but I didn’t remove that full span flap mix. What is shown is not indicative of the actual mixing. Dang.😕
@@Thercgeek Yea man, you messed me up there...lol... I had to give you some sh$t in the video. I thought that looked like a bit much, but I figured I would try it the way you had it.... it's all good!
Sounds like you've never flown this bird. Rich is correct. Up elevator with flaps on this bird. The RCGEEK setup he mentions is for full span flaperon mod, which is not needed but is done to mimic the full size one. I does look cool but can bite you. Anyway, this requires the large up E trim. Stock setup is a much lower E trim. I'm on my 3rd Tomcat. A fire and disorientation got 1 and 2.
I have a fix for that... coming soon:) It is more realistic as a pilot to takeoff and land skillfully... hand launching and flying around is fun & easy but the real skill of piloting is in the takeoff and especially the landing phase.
I think you need to see The Right Stuff. Pancho Barnes said, "Some peckerwood's gotta take the beast up and some peckerwood's gotta land the sumbitch. And that peckerwood is called a PILOT"
Theres always a few haters that only see the negative... perhaps you should just say "Thanks Rich" for taking the time to really show us the model:) Some of us can chew gum and fly at the same time...lol... I'm flyin a Tomcat & chewing some Beemans, it doesn't get much better than that! Good luck....
