Welcome back subscribers, and new viewers to the channel. This video shows the struggle I had with this once beautiful plane.
The Freewing F35 70mm sold by Motion RC is and beautiful looking plane that has the potential to have amazing performance and sound, but given a bad rx, and inadequate field condition this model quickly becomes a problem child.
If this looks like something you would like to try your hand at here is the link:

Happy flying.

I have to admire your perseverance. I also have this model and fly off a similar grass strip. The problem is getting up enough speed which the condition of the grass won't let you do, this results in the aircraft stalling. I found the only way round this was to wait for a strong enough head wind so as to give enough lift. This worked great for me and also helped when landing.
@RCPlaneAddict
@RCPlaneAddict 3 года назад
Gary, thanks for checking out my content, and you have a great suggestion. In addition to waiting for those conditions for my next attempt I have also added in flaperon mixing with some up elevator. should help some too. Fingers crossed!

@garyflint1965 3 года назад
@@RCPlaneAddict One word of caution on the flaperons. Check them in flight and at height as the model may dive alarmingly. A decent head wind is the way to go first and being gentle with the elevator...Good luck.

@RCPlaneAddict 3 года назад
@@garyflint1965 Gary, I am sorry that I did not heed your warning about the flaperons. You were very right, I was able to get the plane in the air, where it started to behave very erratic. On approach I decided to drop the flaperons full down, and this bird dropped the nose and came down into the ground like a lawn dart. Very unexpected! That was a terrible learning moment.
@garyflint1965
@garyflint1965 3 года назад
@@RCPlaneAddict Sorry to here of this but as you say a learning moment which is what gets us though life, as long as we learn from them. Is it repairable? If so go for it again without flaperons and into a decent head wind. Run it along the ground until it's going as fast as it will and gently pull back on the elevator. I tend to save mine for when conditions are favourable which is a 10mph direct headwind. Good luck...

I read some comments and people have already told you what I think. That being said I have never seen a jet get off on a hand launch when the guy tossing has his fingers hooked on the back end! It is a no no to do. Allways throws the nose up into a stall or down into the ground. Really need to grip near the cg but behind the cg. It should hand launch bo problem if its thrust is more than its weight. I'm guessing your f35 dosnt have a good place to grip for hand launch!

I also have crashed a new jet. The F 15 eagle, and on the very same day, my twin BushMule. My finger hit the Safe off by mistake on the F 15, and the Battery fell out on the BushMule pulling up to drop a parachute man. Destroyed them both beyond repair. I didn't think your crash would be on your first take off tho, caught me by surprise. OUCH. It hurts for a bit, then we just to move on. I also put my Freewing F22 into the ground on a hand toss. I have since put an AS3X receiver in it, and now it does great on a hand toss. Started flying in Jan. 2014 the hobby is now in my DNA, but I still feel bad if I crash one. I tell people, crashing is just part of the sport, and to buy stock in Hot Glue! 😁 You're really good at putting them back together tho. I'm thinking 40% expo on Jets. I put 30% expo on everything, but Jets need a bit more. With that said, that field is not smooth enough for a jet with small gear. Most of my planes have bush wheels, or can take off on water or grass, and I hand toss the rest.
@RCPlaneAddict
@RCPlaneAddict 2 года назад
Robert, thanks for sharing, and the field that I was flying at is terrible for bush tire too as the club cabinet values the thickness and height of the grass over a functional runway. I appreciate your support.

I'm scratching my head at why you keep trying to launch it with the gyro off? Aren't the problems you are having one of the very reasons gyros made their appearance in the first place?
@RCPlaneAddict
@RCPlaneAddict 3 года назад
Sporty, thanks for checking out the vid, and honestly you bring up a good point. I probably should have reset the rx to use the “safe” mode and take full advantage of the gyro, which would have helped, but the real problem was the long grass and a frail landing gear. Unless either was addressed this would have been a sure fail, as you have seen. Cheers.

Sorry to see these happen. The first one is a stall for sure(Though I'm not sure if your inputs lifted it up? or the nose gear hit a bump, then lifted it up prematurely?). The second one, might not be a hand lunch plane. The third one looks like you need more expo and less throw on the alieron(although it is hard to tell without your throw&expo settings). My suggestions: 1 set up a flaperon to get it up on the grass field. (Though flaperon is not compatible with SAFE at the moment) 2 get an AR636B SAFE/AS3X receiver. (setting it up the right way could take some time, but I'm 100% sure you will love the result. If you would like to find out what SAFE receiver feels like in comparison to other gyro assisted receivers. Check out my video of me and my buddy flying our yak130s together. ) 3 inspect the runway before you line it up. Choose the smoothest part you can find. (if this is the only place you can find to fly it. Coz it looks really rough.) A small bump could ruin the takeoff on an EDF jet completely for ya. 4 A steering gyro will help to line up your takeoff better. And to keep it on a steady course. I use Assan AG61 steering gyro in all of my tri-gear planes. (I deal with a bumpy runway as well. Matter of fact, in my Yak video, you can see my Yak 130 jumping up and down after touch down at 2:38. And you can see how my buddy's yak bounced around on takeoff at 0:12.) Finally, before you figure out what happened on that third crash. Don't let it hold up your progress. Maybe try something else for this field. :)

Yikes man, I’m sorry to see this. I know the feeling though. I’m just glad that you got 2 good flights on it. My E-Flite 80mm F-18 Blue Angel was destroyed on the maiden because of an uncontrollable right roll tendency which no amount of left input would correct for. After fighting it for 40 seconds, it finally departed controlled flight and crashed into a tree, sheering one of the wings and both elevators off, effectively making the model unflyable. Very unfortunate.

You got to cut the throws down on the aileron, it tends to be a bit twitchy. RCGroups has a good thread with settings that are more appropriate than the manual's settings. You could also put a Spektrum AR636 and program it with SAFE to make the takeoffs and landings easier. I like using it for the first few flights, gives you a safety net. This is not the easiest plane to fly, but it is doable.

@@RCPlaneAddict I fly off of a grass field that is worse than yours. If there is not a lot of headwind sometimes I rely on bumps to get airborne. When I roll down the runway I normally am giving aggressive up elevator and it rotates when it is ready.
