Freezing on one of my favorite trout streams

I took a trip to one of my favorite trout streams. When I planned the trip, the temps were supposed to be in the low 40's. When I got there, they were in the low 30's. and Falling!
I do love this stream, mostly becasue of it's beauty. And when I catch fish, they are usually pretty decent size as well,a nd hard fighting too! But about half my trips come up empty.
So that became the question: Could I withstand the cold and battle the freezing, icy conditions successfully and find some fish that were willing to bite? A big downside of BFS micro-guides is they freeze up pretty easily once the temps drop to 32°...

Interesting session and great scenery. What‘s your honest opinion concerning this Majorcraft Finetail glass rod? I‘m eyeballing the 4.6 version for fishing trout mainly with sub 5 gram minnows in a very small stream. The only casting technique that works is to flick cast due to bushes, brush and other stuff. So I need a proper loading rod. Would really appreciate some infos about this rod…

For me, it's more stiff than something I would use for a flick cast. But it is one of the few rods to stay in the collection after my recent purge. :)

You are a lucky guy! You were able to spend some time at your field office. Beautiful views, solitude, and experiencing nature at her very best. Besides a fish or two you couldn't ask for a better day at work.

The police were out because they use the lunar charts too... to catch the crazies... hahaha! This is about how my last tip out went, only I managed to catch one right at the end, and I also had someone shoot in my general direction... more to come on that!

Hardcore when you get ice in the rings . I'm wondering if a mini Texas rig worm fished downstream and across would work ? . I was out today , 15° c - here in France , bright sun on my bank , but hey , first session of the year , and first 0 . Plenty more to come no doubt lol .

I'm always walking that balance between trying everything and staying with what SHOULD work. I do need to try more micro-plastics on trout though. Even like the Z-Man mirco-finesse TRD could work well if I'd think about throwing it.
