Freezy Virtual Pinball

Okay got it working - Thanks for the help Major Frenchy! (detailed info below so read more...) Do everything in the video. I downloaded Freezy 1.7.2 and it seems to be working, but a lot of people have had better luck with 1.7.1. Once you get to the end of the end of the video and you don't see two DMDs, press Alt-Tab and see if you don't seem them then - they might be open in two different places but once you go back to your table view (I'm using cabinet view) the Freezy DMD should be in the upper corner. If you don't see both, you missed a step perhaps. Of course you don't want two DMDs. So you'll need to get rid of the old one (the one you set the default.ini file with DMD height, width, X and Y positions). You'll need that info again so keep it handy. Write it down. Go to Visual Pinball and then into the VPinMame folder. The file you need to edit is called DMDDevice,ini (or you might see DMDDevice). Double click that and it will open in Notepad. Might not be a bad idea to open up a new Notepad file and copy and paste the entire contents of DMDDevice into it - in case you blow it. In the DMDDevice.ini file locate the userregistry line and instead of it being "false" change it to "true" - as in it's TRUE, that you want it to use VPM's registry value when positioning the virtual DMD Use your settings from the default.ini file for DMD Height, Width, X and Y position and enter them into the DMDDevice.ini file (you'll see the lines to do this on, the file isn't that big). Remember to SAVE the file. Load a table that has a DMD (don't load an EM table or something from the 80s) and press ALT-TAB to see both DMDs appear - one should look noticeably cleaner (no dots) - that's the Freezy one you want (if you want a cleaner look). Right click on the Backglass and for DMD select "Hidden" - this will hide the DMD with dots. You have to save this file and reload the table for it to show. Once you do this the Freezy DMD should now be in the place your old DMD was and the other DMD should be hidden or gone. If you're using 3 screens remember to change the Grill to "Hidden" if you don't want to see it - then you'll see the full backglass picture. Might as well do this at the same time if you're switching from a 2 screen setup to a 3 screen setup. You'll have to do the previous steps for each table (load a table, locate the 2 DMDs with Alt-Tab, click on the backglass, select DMD to Hidden, Grill to Hidden if you want to hide it, save, reload the table to see if it all worked out! With the exception of The Addams Family for some reason.... can't seem to locate the Freezy DMD on that one, but I'll keep trying. Also I cannot change the backglass settings on ACDC Luci for the life of me. However most of the tables these steps worked like a charm on, but as we know with VPX, expect the unexpected. Thanks again! Very much appreciated! tl:dr: If you're looking for a tl:dr in VPX, you're going to fail.

Thank you for all your helpful videos. For some reason, I cannot get this to work properly. I have a 3 screen cabinet with a virtual DMD. When I change over to use external DMD and re-start the table, I get the "NO external DMD driver found" error message. When I test the ROM, the freezy shows up on the playfield and looks amazing. But when I try to play the table, I get the same error message. I have tried several tables and get the same issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Man your are a life saver. I'm just getting into this visual pinball X, and your videos are helping tremendously! I noticed there's a 1.7.2 Virgin on get hub. Should I use that instead of the 1.7.0 that you showed in your video?

I have a two-screen set-up; my DMD heights vary by table. I also have used different colors (colorize DMD) for different tables, to look similar to the color scheme of the playfield. So having one global position isn't going to be a time-saver. Is there a way I can save all of my table-specific DMD positions and colorizations? I fear having to re-do all of that for the tons of DMD-era tables I have. Please help! Thanks.

Freezy 1.8 latest version is awesome easy to position anywhere for every table!

Thank you for this. You have helped to me get rid of the ugly DMD that comes with some tables while the scores displayed on the back glass anyway. Now I set my pinup Popper to display nice Animation in the DMD spot and I set that table's DMD reg file width and height to "0". Ugly DMD is gone. Great video. On further review of this method better to set the dmd_pos_x to a value passed all three screens, I used 5200 for anyone reading this post.

Nice vid! Makes me think that I should probably add a way to save the virtual DMD position to the .ini automatically when moving it around. By the way, the software is called DMD Extensions, freezy is just my alias. ;)

I am so confused and frustrated. First step and mine is already completely different. If I open a table, I can go to the editor, or I can play the table. The tables that I have, work great, and I can play them without problem. I just can't configure my screens. Mine doesn't go to the screen that yours has. You also show that the DMD is on the side of your table... mine is a separate window, running behind the table. I can't have them both displayed at the same time. You seem to know what you are talking about, but it is really frustrating, when the first step of a tutorial, is already wrong. =(

Thanks for this walkthrough Major Frenchy! Like others I'm having a bit of trouble and need some clarification if at all possible. I downloaded 1.7.2 and extracted it in VPinMame. I also made sure at the end to run the Setup Defaults and select Use External DMD. Just wanted to clarify those steps. For those who don't see the second DMD (the Freezy "clearer" one without the dots) press ALT-TAB and you'll most likely see it. It should appear in the upper right corner of your table (cabinet mode). So my old DMD is appearing exactly where I set it in the default.ini file so that works like a charm - I have right-clicked on the backglass and selected DMD: HIDDEN - which requires you to save it and relaunch the table. So I did, and my old DMD is gone, and the Freezy one appears on the table in upper right hand corner BUT it doesn't appear in the area where I set the DMD to show up in the default.ini file. ??? I'm assuming there is something missing otherwise I'll just have to go and position every Freezy DMD by hand on the third screen, which would make all the work I did setting the DMD default.ini file useless busy work. Freezy 1.8 was just released. Most of us have delicate setups where we are fearful of messing things up with an update. I hope you can post a new vid on the install of this new update. For example, is it ok now to use the X64 version or as with this video, you recommend the 32bit version instead. TIA

Awesome information. But can I still individually turn off the freezy DMD for tables like Haunted House. Sorry if this is nooby question but I'm just getting back into this hobby after building a mini cab. Cheers for any info guys...

Trying to follow the video here, but when i load a table to work with the dmd coordinates, I cant bring up just the DMD like Mjr Frenchy does. The playfield monitor wont minimize the table to continue the config. (3 screen setup)

Hi M/F I have just started to rebuild the software on my pincab and I have stumbled accross a problem. I have been through the process in this video and I set the native DMD and fill my display with it I get the coordinates from the registry and create the entry's in the default registry and all fits ok with the native DMD from any table. As soon as I change to the Freezy 1.7.1 external DMD it is smaller than the original native DMD. I have also tried editing the DMDdevice.ini to reflect the X,Y,Height and width numbers but still the freezy dmd is smaller bu only in the height?? any ideas??? Many thanks, Tony

At what point in this video do you explain how to install Freezy? FOUND IT, 10:14 goodness I was getting concerned, first ten minutes is how to move and size ROM DMDs. Ok I followed your instructions, but I don't get X2 DMD's displayed as you explain, how do I know if Freezy is running? I have External DMD selected within my Global settings.

Hi Major Frenchy, you may have covered this, was wanting to figure out how to program "fake rom registry entries" for games which are custom and did not necessarily have a factory dedicated rom registry entry. (For games such as JP's Minons, Ghostbusters and so on). I think there is a way with FlexDMD/Freezy to program DMD for custom games in the DmdDevice.ini file but have not quite pulled that off yet in terms of letting the "ROM" files have full control over the DMD Positioning .SAMPLE: Commercial Based Rom Entry [elvis] virtualdmd left = -1024 virtualdmd top = 568 virtualdmd width = 1024 virtualdmd height = 200 SAMPLE: User Created Custom Table, No Factory Rom involved. Would need "Fake Rom" entry in registry. [minions] virtualdmd left = -1024 virtualdmd top = 568 virtualdmd width = 1024 virtualdmd height = 200

So I configured the the VPinMAME to use the external DMD and when I start the table as shown in the video, I do not see the dual DMDs. I only see the original DMD. Obviously I am missing something here but I have no clue what. Help!

A right click on the dmd does not yield a menu. What am I missing?

I followed a video to install this and Pin Up Player from the writer himself (as a pre-empt to trying Popper) and got to the point where you need to right click the back glass and check that a button is now available to see it's all working. That button was still greyed out. But I was still getting double DMDs (which was never explained) so I thought it had all gone wrong and just wiped it all off and went back to PinballX.

HELP! Trying to follow along but... whenever I open a table in visual pinball The mouse is not visible. I can see the mouse on my backglass monitor but that's it. If I try clicking on the play field the screen just turns black and freezes. All the games play great if I don't try to click on the playfield. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You can also just set your dmd positioning by editing the dmddevice.ini......also with freezy you can add the colorized dmd's which look cool but only available on certain games

I installed Freezy and I get the two dmd to appear, but the colorized one that looks best doesn't have the dot matrix and looks flat. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

I have been having an issue with Frezzy that it will not fill the area of my LCD screen I am using for my DMD. I have worked it and worked it and it will just not fill the screen no matter how many times I adjust the numbers. Vpin works fine and fills the screen. Can anyone help?

It always worked for me fine until i format my pc.. I reinstalled everything but somehow the freezy dmd doesnt show anymore. I tried al versions but nothing works. Any advice ?
