I always wonder what would’ve become of Ace had he stayed sober from this point forward and continued with this lineup and sound. He’s a legend regardless. I’ll never stop listening to the records
Wow! This is probably the best I’ve seen Ace play… he’s jumping around and seems like he’s enjoying himself and the band… very cool! Love the Frehley’s Comet albums
He’s good but he’d better off fronting his own glam metal band, but one that didn’t suck and full of people who didn’t care more about pretty hair than singing good.
@@crisscat2006 thats not totally true-- it was the record label that did that. Part of the agreement was that for the new contract they wanted Ace to write and sing the songs. he wanted Tod to stay in but it wasn't worth it for Tod to be just a hired gun rather than a member-- thats starlight from the horses mouth. I spoke to tod directly about 9 years ago and he told me the story. The Comet was kind of flopping because grunge was taking over and making it tough for this genre which is why the new label required the changes. They felt the sales would be better with Ace just performing as a solo artist
The KISS solo albums are all you need to understand which member was the best. Ace had the best and it shows. I love the Ace-less era of KISS, but it pales to compare to Frehley's Comet and Ace solo.
Comet at their greatest! ❤ Right now I'm literally pounding cold gin (Tanqueray fyi) aggressively, and honouring John Regan, whom I just learned died on April the 7th. so fucking sad... I still have my Into The Night single signed by him, and I love that item I cherish so much. It is also my favourite Comet song. ❤
Ace's solos were pure ART. My mouth was hanging to the floor. Mr. Paul Daniel Frehley's stage presence and showmanship is second to none. A hero to so many of us!
.... didn't know Ace's full name.... thanks.... yeah Ace was the reason I chose to buy a new a '79 Gibson Les Paul Custom when I was a kid at 15... but really having the good luck of viewing, touching and strumming Paul Stanley's original Ibanez Iceman while it was on loan at String's and Thing's in Memphis back in '79 before it was on display and out of reach from the public... that's what lit the flame under my azz to play at that moment until this day ; . )
Yep, since I was 15 in 2005, you could sign me up on that list. Even my nickname in high-school was Ace, because I either talked about him, or was drunker/higher than a King (in card terms)... probably not the greatest treat at that age, but I still keep up with that to this day. And I'm doing just well... considering... Edit: I'm a manager of the largest bakery/bread factory in my region, collect luxury watches on the side, have turned a gorgeous Brazilian lesbian from gold-star, met Ace Frehley, and been on first name with Tod Howard, and I used to be a journalist, even doing TV interviews for national stations, and covering quite big cases and have interviewed quite big celebs. So, yeah, for a useless idiot and gin-soaked cunt, I can't complain...
my only expectation before the whole world goes up in flames is to see Mr Ace Frehley and Mr Tod Howarth Rocking together just like this, amazing lineup yeah
Super gig by the God of rock an roll... Ace being my greatest hero since the begining. The solo´s showed who was the real genius of the 4. Happy birthday to ya on your 70th today Space Ace!
Saw this tour at Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland. Y&T headlined show in the hometown (basically). Ace roasted them so badly...the hometown crowd was chanting “we want Ace” for 20 minutes into their set. Still have my ‘Ace Is Back’ sticker. My man has otherworldly talent and is about the nicest guy in the business.
this was a perfectly played set when i saw them in Albany, NY....clear as can be and Ace didn't miss a lick. backing band very tight and Todd's vocals fit the music. He's an asset
Yes, I was there. Hell of a job getting tickets as I remember. Travelled down from Liverpool, great gig, thanks Ace and yon comet, great stuff..SHOCKIN!!!! Cheers Steve Hanna.
God damn, this was Ace in his prime. His playing is top notch, the guitar tone, he's using a Floyd rose, the overall energy. I was born in the wrong decade.
Saw that same tour in St. Louis. Ace opened for Y&T and a lot of people left after Ace was done. I'm a huge Ace fan , but Y&T is a great band and sounded great. Awesome show!
Jesus is it nearly 31 years since this gig? Got the bus down from Buxton with my brother and a mate of ours. John Norum (ex. of Europe) was support but I can't remember a thing about his set. Just remember thinking, "I'm in the same room as Ace Frehley!!!" I wasn't quite 20 and now I'll soon be 51 - where does the time go?
The backing band was great, but Tod's backing vocals just grate on my nerves, that high pitch is impressive but it's irritating and he just overdid and sang in places that he should have just let the music do the talking.
I saw Ace in July 1987 at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA, White Lion opened. I was in the US Navy at the time. He came two more times there, but I missed those shows as I was out at sea at the time. Bummer. But then again, I had to remember, I was in the military first.
And just think, Ace never took lessons, self taught. I love every Kiss guitarist, they all have a special attribute and all belong to best guitarists in history.
thanks for posting really dig this tod and ace;awesome together.i have this on vhs but no vcr so thanks agin.wish anton was here jamie did ok but theres only one anton fig.he rules doesnt he lol.
this was magical. I wish more artists cut their shows Down to this lenghts. It makes us long for more. Ace is a hero despite all he has gone through. Ace is a leading star. I hope I will get my Les Paul one day
Just some interestname facts. Ace’ Frehley is his stage name, his real name is Paul Frehley, Paul Stanley’s real name is Stanley Eisen, Gene Simmons’ real name is Chain Witz. Peter Criss’ real name is Peter, Criscuola, so Peter was closest to using his true name for his stage character. Just some interesting information I’ve learned by googling the characters.
POR KISS ES QUE CONOCÍ A ACE, PERO SINCERAMENTE SE QUE ERA INEVITABLE TOCAR CANCIONES DE KISS, PERO ME HUBIERA GUSTADO QUE SOLTARA EL PERSONAJE, PUESTO QUE ACE SIEMPRE HA TENIDO BRILLO PROPIO Y TENIAN MUY BUENAS CANCIONES CON THE FREHLEY´S COMET
I saw one of the first Frehleys comet ☄️ shows at L’Amours in Brooklyn, none of us at that time really knew what he looked like without makeup (save a couple of ads in the magazines)it was before his first Comet album came out & he was doing some songs that never made it to the album like (audio video/catch me when I fall) He had Arthur Stead I think his name was on keyboards. I saw endless shows including when he opened for Alice Cooper raise your fist tour like 87or 88 and Ace opening for Iron Maiden 7th son tour(his biggest crowd. But my favorite Ace post kiss was in the 90s when Ritchie came back ,just for fun tour /bad boys tour also w Peter Criss. That band was kicking ass the most ,I think Budgie on drums Karl Cochran on bass they seriously were the best club band. Saw him many times into the 2000s too but now it’s sad to say he sucks so bad live. People Are gonna say what do you expect when you’re his age ,it’s not his age I know other rockers older that still kick ass ,he lost his passion. Well we still have our memories.
Saw Ace a few times 89 to 91. Incredible times. He could play loaded no problem. Why can't these dinosaurs just quit? He completely sucks live now embarrassing. Make the record and stay home Ace my old hero
I think Gene and Paul have been and always will be jealous because Ace Frehley and Peter Criss were always everybody's influence from Motley Crue and Guns N Roses to Garth Brooks,Pantera and Nirvana and the list goes on,nobody ever said they want to play rhythm guitar and sing because of Paul Stanley or play bass because of Gene Simmons,he'll nobody is influenced to play drums or guitar because of Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.
Always loved how, unlike the Gene and Paul band, Ace allows other band members to shine when they are hot. Ace was highly underrated due to Genes constant badgering and criticizing him those licks and leads he does are very very difficult to pull off even for a professional guitarist . Bet if Ace started his own band instead of auditioning for Kiss he would have been bigger then they ever were
@@whataboutrob442 Some of them are lot more complicated then you think , besides a truly great guitarist knows when to keep it simple and when to be more complexed and Ace knew that , hes one of the must under rated guitarist all due to Gene constantly cutting him down
+01artist tommy is copying ace. You can spin it however you like, it still wont change anything. Fact is Ace, Peter, Gene, and Paul created their own unique makeup based on their personalities. Too bad to some people the artists are far removed from the band in replace for the damn gimmick. Can't wait for the official kiss tribute band in a couple years.
+Justin Clark well that is not that hard to do as Ace is crap at solos. In the song catchy few second solos yes he is good but he is not a soloist. Ace just makes a lot of noise and for some stupid reason people eat it up. I would rather hear Ace do something like Eddie Van Halen does for solos.
