I was too young to see them in their hey day. Saw them 96 reunion MSG. Best concert. I was 8 years old again having a Kiss concert in my bedroom. Mom walking in to put my laundry away just shaking her head. Love and miss you mom❤❤❤
@@josephlinnell9855 I remember that head shake only I was 15 and my mom was sure I was on my way to hell. I didn’t get to see them live in their heyday either, but, like you, I saw them in 96. Best concert ever. I had tears running down my face when Peter took the stage and sang the song that started it all for me, BETH
I had tears as well. What suprised me most was when they did 100,000 Years. Me my sister Jane who turned me on to them were both in our own world together. Very nice to meet and talk about a band that influenced me like no other
@@josephlinnell9855 influenced me like no other for sure. Saved me from permanently checking out. Also the concert I went to was the Destroyer tour brought back. They played the same songs, used the same equipment and even used or recreated the stage and the costumes . They also included songs from other albums though. Funny that in 2024, I discovered a Romanian band called Carla’s Dreams and they wear makeup. The songs they sing are much like that of Kiss. They have 8 songs in English and the rest are in Romanian. I was just as captivated by them as I was Kiss and still am. Music is a universal language. I look up the lyrics so I know what the songs are about. Btw, I lived, ate and breathed Kiss. Was disappointed after Peter and Ace left. I quit Kiss after that departure. I love the ORIGINAL line up and listen to the Old KISS all the time. It’s nice to know they were Everything to so many people. My videos and playlists are public on my channel. Feel free to drop in.
Back then we had the record and daydreamed about the show and waited for them to come to town. Now you just push some buttons and here you are. Soo much more exciting then.
This is the era when KISS was in their prime. What a time to be alive! I was 12 years old and KISS was my favorite band. It was such an exciting time. Me and my best friend would fantasize about being in the band. I was Peter Criss and he was Paul Stanley. Music back then was pure and raw.
you might want two watch again...Paul does not appear to be singing live in several places. Notice how his voice does not trail away during the opening number when he steps away from the mic? This could also mean they re recorded several vocals in post production too so I could be wrong
@@kskisser The person who posted this stated that it is footage from a live show but the vocals are from a different show. Its dubbed over but its THEM singing and its THEM live on a stage.
@@SndyOr Regardless it is still lip synching and a ripoff to fans. They should have retired years ago and fans should be aware that much of the show has pre recorded vocals.
This is prime Kiss, no doubt about it. They sound awesome here. They were my first concert, I was 12, 1981. I will never, ever forget the solo Ace did with those colored lights shining on him and the smoke billowing out of his Les Paul. Love you Ace
I saw them on the Dynasty tour. 1979. Long Island Coliseum. Judas Priest opened the show. We snuck in the back right behind and above Peter. Saw everything he played. I completely lost my 13 year old mind. Now, at 57, I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
Dynasty Tour which was here 1980 when I was 10&John Cougar opened. Was my last year of Trick or Treating too as Ace Frehley. Seen them about dozen times now&as much as I loved them/earlier shows. Hot in the Shade Tour still stands out as one their heaviest&best.
first concert . 7th grade texas 1979 only kiss albums i had were alive 1 and 2. There was a pro shot concert that was on early HBO i remember it was was our first live look at kiss back then. just fueled the fire.
The greatest live album album ever recorded! My childhood right here in these songs! To actually see them in perfect sync and great footage is almost a religious experience!! this is amazing!!
I saw KISS at McNichols arena in 1977 for KISS Alive II. These original four guys kicked ass. Truthfully never gave a Rat's Ass when them after Ace and Peter were gone.
Ah come on I love Ace but it must have been a nightmare working with two sloppy guys in an operation that got this big. Paul's questionable and Gene a massive asshole but they did keep the thing going
1976 costumes...just before 1977 ones came in for Alive 2. This is the Japan tour just before they let loose on the states...brilliant, raw hard rock at it's best!!!!!
Saw them live on Jan. 9, 1975 at the Commadore Ballroom on Granville in Vancouver. It was their "Hotter than Hell" tour. Sat with Chief Dan George and we were both sure we lost some hearing that night lol. It was so loud.
Saw them in May of ‘76 at the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg; it was their next to last stop on the Alive! tour before the Destroyer tour started in July. What a great show! It took almost 2 days to get all of my hearing back, they were so loud. Peter Criss did his long solo on 100,000 Years, with his drum riser going higher and higher towards the end of the song. Made a big impression on a high school kid.
I can remember when I was a member of the KISS Army. My bedroom walls were plastered with KISS posters. This brings back a lot of good memories for sure.
Me too sadly missed kiss at the end of their Alive concert extended tour ....which started for Dressed to Kill Lp & was still going on 2 lps later after Destroyer was released.... Meanwhile 1 year & 4 months later another 2 LP's done & they are starting the greatest rock tour ever " Love Gun" which tore through Canada & did some American shows.... Sad I missed Alive at the end but saw Love Gun at the beginning.
I saw KISS for Alive I as an opening act for Black Sabbath on their Technical Ecstasy tour and the crowd wanted Sabbath but couldn't turn loose of KISS it was truly amazing and if you were too young to go, then you are too young to know. These original 4 guys shook up the Rock-n-Roll world. They weren't just a fire show. They could jam.
I agree totally!!! The stage show and craziness took away from the real talent and ability the original lineup had!!! I think Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and Paul and Gene, even though they take every single chance to bash Peter and Ace, ridiculous!!! Still, original lineup are underrated and underappreciated!!!
That was the black sabbath Sabotage tour. Close though..... I wasn't even around then so I'm not giving u shit for getting a tour 2 years apart mixed up hahahaha
All the KISS haters, if you haven't listen to ALive I & II you don't know anything about KISS. It was the greatest Live performance on earth. Can't say the same at the new KISS. Gene and Paul should look at this and understand why fans miss the real KISS. There are no replacements for the Cat Man and Space Ace. Never!
@Shawn- Bubble still intact. I've always known alot the tracks were dubbed except for Peter who had the only live tracks on the album. Regardless of the over dubs, it still captures the "live sound" and everyone followed with the formula in the 70's after KISS. Eddie Kramer produced the ultimate KISS sound which was used in Rock n Roll Over, for me it's the only studio album with the true KISS sound. Tracks were recorded live on a sound stage, except for Peter recording off stage somewhere, and the rest dubbed for the final mix in the studio, just like Alive.
Michael Kelly There's an Eddie Kramer video somewhere on youtube. He says that apart from the drums everything from Alive! was re-recorded in the studio. Same for Alive II. Also Alive III is not much live. Most of it was recorded during soundchecks.
This is what made them legendary. Totally at their best! Individual style cannot be duplicated. Parts can be played by a good player but it's not this.

Agreed with comments here: This is the quintessential KISS. They were a very tight and talented band. Their makeup and stage theatrics were something that people either "got" or simply did not "get it". If they didn't "get it" they dismissed the band as not being talented musicians. But they were very talented. Those of us who "got it" with KISS understood that the makeup, stage theatrics etc were all part of an entire package. KISS didn't want to just play music. They wanted their fans to be entertained in every possible way. And they made sure it was high energy. This video is great. Such a great entertaining band.
I remember loving this in 78 when it played on my TV in western Australia. I was 12 and already had posters covering my bedroom walls and my poor parents ears after buying me a drumkit..❤
I love the Rock n Roll Circus when it comes to town! Gene the flame thrower and blood spitter. Ace the Space Cadet. Paul the Lover and Peter the Catman! They were hot back then. I got my chance to see them on their 96 Reunion Tour. And they knew how to put on a show and party! It was like being in a time warp. It felt like the late Seventies when people just wanted to party all night in clubs. Thanks for posting!
Been to literally hundreds of concerts. I would gladly give up 95% of those shows. To have been able to have seen this tour. The reunion was the closest I came. THIS IS KISS. At their absolute best.
Wow! Thank you for posting this. This brings me waaaaay back. I had no idea that this even existed. This is the KISS that I grew to embrace and cherish. Sadly, I have no use for "the band" now. But this is when they were heroes!
This was awesome. Live at the Budokan in 1977 or 78. I first and only time I saw Kiss in 2019, End of the Road Tour. Only wished I had seen them in their hay days. I hope there are many more uploads will come out soon during their prime. I was 14 when I got their first album, Dressed to Kill, and it is on the Blue Casablanca label and I still have it . A rare record. Most of the Casablanca labels are tan. Now, I'm in my 60's and I still listen to them. Thanks for the Rockin' memories.
Reposting from Spaventacorvi's original post, who was gracious enough to give us the songs' time sequencing: 00:15 Detroit rock city 04:06 Take me 07:14 Ladies room 10:19 Makin' Love 13:31 I want you 18:06 Cold gin 21:11 Ace solo - Ace Frehley lead guitaaaaar!!! 24:00 Do you love me 27:37 God of thunder 30:55 Peter drum solo 33:28 God of thunder end 34:28 Rock and Roll all nite 38:52 Beth 41:15 Shout it out loud
All the budokan shows on this tour were recorded by Eddie Kramer for a live album that was scrapped. The name of the album was supposed to be titled "Rock & Roll Party In Tokyo". In many circles, it is considered to be the Alive 2 that never came out.
I was there in la for 2 of the 3 nights at the forum for"alive 2" however they were wearing the love gun costumes and opened with stole your love all 3 shows ,i think this recording in Japan is alive 2 ,also recorded a TV show segment called" hype and glory" same 3 nights btw gene set his hair on fire 2and night trying to get a really big fireball for the TV show
@@norms3913 Parts of it were except for Beth, which was recorded at the 7:30 pm show of the two Budokan sets. You're watching the 4:30pm show (with audio from 7:30).
Saw them at the Philly Spectrum doing that tour, they were great. '77 or '78. I've met Ace a couple times, walked the streets of East Village NYC with him while drinking beers and a couple years later he was at The Whisky in LA when my band played there with Zakk Wylde. But KISS was great. One fun band for sure and always loved Aces playing.
U from Philly too born and raised I was born in 77 so I never got to see them obviously but u must have had a blast at the good ole Philadelphia spectrum my first concert was Jimmy page outrider tour at the spectrum
@@bigdaddydaddy3203 yes I also saw the Alice Cooper Killer Show at the Spectrum Jan '72, his Billion Dollar Babies show in March '73, Welcome to my Nightmare show in '75, all at the Spectrum. That venue used to be a crazy place way back then! Alcohol wasn't sold there so all the kids would show up shit faced and stoned. Fights, drugs in the bathrooms. There was a stabbing there. Drunk people on the second tier barfing on the people down below. It could a nut house in the 70's!
@@patguarniero9211 never said he lived in Manhattan but there's no doubt I was with him the in east village walking down 1st Ave. When you're with Ace, you kinda know it lol. I'm talking '89/'90
Took Peter Criss on my Shrimp Boat in 79 He had a dream of being a commercial fisherman after 2 days of sun and hard work he changed his mind very cool dude
One of the best bands ever. Lots of toe tapping rock songs, entertaining, longevity, huge record sales, world wide fans,… Beatles Stones U2 AC/DC KISS I’m sure there are more but those come to mind as greats.
This live video recording, without any alleged studio overdubs, sounds as good, electric, and full on rock-'n'-roll as Alive I and Alive II!! Don't listen to everything you read! Playing live defines a band and Kiss have defined themselves infinitely!! You drive them wild, they drive you CRAZY!!
Sounds much better than Alive 2 but not as good as Alive! I’ve always thought that Alive 2 doesn’t sound that good. Shout It Out Loud in particular is way too fast and the twin leads in the intro sound bad. I do like the studio side with All American Man though.
In 1977 we were obsessed with KISS and I joined the KISS ARMY at 12. When they came to NZ in 1980 we nearly lost our minds. First big concert of my life, I was 14 and I was just stunned, amazed and had the greatest night. This line up was the best with Ace and Peter .
Same. Had all the albums. My school books were covered in the KISS logo. I used to draw all their faces all the time. I was 13 in 79 and on my birthday my mother made me a Kiss logo cake. I once counted 124 pictures and posters on my wall of Kiss. There was nothing else allowed except for Kristy McNichol. She was cute. Alive II was my favorite album.
Now THIS is the KISS I fell in love with! This was the first rock concert I ever attended, the Rock And Roll Over tour, Feb. 1, 1977, in Milwaukee. They didn't have the large, lighted stairs then, and Peter is also missing the two, large leopards that flanked his drum kit, but he's still using the white, textured, Pearl, concert tom kit, which was always my favorite. Great to see KISS in their prime again!
Although huge THANKS for sharing this awesome show, there is no video nor 80 foot screen tv that can capture the energy that the live show provided. The pure power was astounding. They were downright scary!!! I WAS THERE! My "lost virginity to" 1st show. I also had the "misprint" Alive 2 album. Take Me, Hooligan, and Do You Love Me were listed on that album. Hearing Take Me here is SOOO cool!
Next night... I still cannot believe how fresh this still sounds. Not so much going on flame- or fireworkswise, but great energy from the band. Still YOUNG ;) Everybody firing on 8 cylinders. Great work from ACE :) and everybody else. COLD GIN has never sounded better - down and really dirty! !!! And I´ve listened to it 12344559876876 times ;) Paul violinin´´ . Gene almost growlin´, Pete doin´ his stuff at endlessssss drum-kit and ACE the space... Killin´it in a positive way ;) IT`S FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
As a 10 year old this is the guitar tone that I wanted - it was forever imprinted I eventually purchased a 100 watt Marshall half stack and that was it for me
Your story is identical to mine except I was 7.. I recently bought a Marshall Half Stack as well but it's not a jcm800.. the one that captures the kiss sound is my white Marshall lead 12 mini stack
