Exactly - do this without a badge on your chest and you will spend a long time in prison, *proving that cops are held to a lower standard than the average person.*
@@JadenYukifan28Police officers are supposed to be held to a higher standard considering they wield power and authority over everyone else in society, have the monopoly of government force, and the benefit of investigating each other internally for wrongdoing, misconduct, criminal acts, etc. (and working relationships with state prosecutors who decide on charges/qualified immunity) -he should be fired because he clearly can’t do the job correctly despite the negative effects it has on the lives of citizens. No need to make excuses for incompetent officers
@@Tortilla.Reform That power can also be abused as well, but in this case, it wasn't a power trip. It was a case of mistaken identity and it was fixed, so the only thing the officer had was a 3-day suspension.
@@JadenYukifan28 The cop never asked for the man's identification!!!! He arrested a totally innocent man, at his place of business, because he was Black and his first name was Darrell!!!
@@leolarobinson799 No, the Officer never read the ENTIRE report, which would have stated all of the information for the one they were looking for and saw the first name, which was Darnell. It was an honest mistake in which the Officer got suspended for 3 days for.
Wait a minute. This cop kidnapped someone and he gets suspended for 3 days. This chief should resign. This department should be investigated. Seems like they’re above the law. I bet they don’t give their citizens these kinds of breaks. This is unacceptable
@@jimrichardson-gk4us That's right. If I rob a bank or any other establishment, do you think they would allow ME to investigate myself?? HELL to the NOOO!
No it's not. Listen to the black reporter. She makes the chief sound like a darling. And educating the police to take 15 seconds to ensure they have the right person is just over the top in our police state. We're lucky to get what we get.
@@JadenYukifan28 Yeah, the restaurant owner met the cop's criteria...He had the same first name....But then again,, looking at this department's VIVID track record...some very interesting exploits..
Ah but he was also the genius that figured out (completely wrongly) where and who the perp was. He had gone there for food earlier and heard him being called Darnell - so, case closed.
Mr. McCloud already has an attorney. It's just a matter of how much he sticks us taxpayers for!! Don't get me wrong, he needs compensation, just maybe take it out of the cop's paycheck!!!
The chief doesnt know the law, they cannot demand your social security number for id purposes, he is the problem if hes telling his underlings to ask for it, poor training, bad leadership, and a sick culture.
Exactly they can not ask for ID. They had video of the drug transactions. They should have checked the video and looked at the images of the dealer and compared to the business owner
Only 15 seconds if you are a person of Color is what the inte!t if his comment means. Everyone else is given the benefit of the doubt. Clown Policing at its Finest. 🤡
They aren't interested in fixing anything. Cops have had decades to right the course and refuse to do so. Instead they just take early retirements and live off protected pension funds despite their malfeasance.
If your officer is this ignorant that they didnt know and needed a new policy to assure you don’t violate the rights of innocent people he’s in the wrong profession.
“We’ve been talking amongst ourselves to see what we could do better” Two basic things: Read the warrant information and ask the subject his name. Oh, and brush up on your critical thinks skills
Arresting the wrong person, raiding the wrong house and a bunch of other stuff I'm not allowed to say seems to be a popular thing with cops these days.
A copy if the warrant should be in the officers' hands at the time if the arrest. The person detained should not have to wait till he gets to the station to find out what is in the warrant.
3 day suspension without pay is nothing compared to what Darnell is going to make from his civil suit. Hope he gets this clown's whole paycheck and then some.
"We can't do this alone"... Yes, yes you can do this alone. The public does not have access to your databases. It is fully your responsibility to do this alone.
The only reason this officer feels "horrible" is because he got caught. Just remember folks this arrest goes on the stats for drug arrests of the state. What I want to know is how far through the booking prosess was it found he was the worng man, after they took his finger prints? (That will stay on record)
QI makes officers reckless since they have a license to break laws without facing meaningful penalties. WIthout QI, this could be a kidnapping charge along with official oppression, and a slew of other charges.
After this aired the Chief walked into the roll call room and said something to the effect, “All that crap you heard in that interview…..forget it. These crooks are all liars, don’t believe ‘em and if they don’t respect our authority…make ‘em.”
The only reason he did not bother to do his job well or correct is because they are told by the higher ups they do not have to because they have qualified immunity
Three day suspension…. He has probably damaged that poor man’s business because mud sticks. We are human and we make mistakes but when you job involves lives you really must not make these mistakes. What if this victim put up a fight, even a verbal denial, he could have been killed.
EVERYONE needs to remember, the citizen does not have to help the individuals in uniform do their job. They have a warrant that needs to be checked, like simple things of the first/last name. Look at the business records of the individual. How about asking the citizen their NAME. The question is WHAT DID THEY LEARN AT THE ACADEMY? They apparently are NOT trained because this is simple.
I agree with the ongoing sentiment, the chief and officer should resign out of respect to their office and honest officers in the department. If not, they should be fired.
And when the lawsuit comes it’s the poor old taxpayers who foots the bill 3 day off with out pay then back to work with 2 day overtime sorted.he should be fired he kidnapped an innocent person.unbelievable the Iq to become a cop is unbelievable 😢
Maybe the tax payers should make police incompetence an election issue. You can not ask someone to do something and then take no personal responsibility.. Everybody wants a competent police force, even most criminals; why do they not want to use their vote to ensure it.
The cops investigated themselves and determined they are heroes for violating the civil rights of an innocent man. The sad part of this? When that man sues it will be the taxpayers that pay off the settlement, not the cop that wrongfully arrested him. The taxpayers have to pay off the suit for a lazy and incompetent cop. That is what 6 weeks at the academy gets you. Did you know it takes twice the training to be a barber then it does a cop? Think about that. Someone with a gun and badge, with the power to take your money through fines, throw you in a cage or kill you gets less than half the training someone does to cut your hair. With that in mind is it any wonder this stupid shit keeps happening?
''We will look into corrective measures until we do it again, after that we will look into corrective measures until we do it again, then we will tell the press we will look into corrective measures and until qualified immunity is removed we will do it again and again" says all police and government officials.
"We can't do this alone, we need the community's support..." WTF??!! You can't verify information and avoid making false arrests without "community support"? Typical copaganda.
If there is a lawsuit, take any money awarded from their pension fund and police unions. They screwed up for not doing their job correctly so make them pay, not taxpayers.
You're actually only legally required to give ID to law enforcement if you are under reasonable suspicion of a committing a crime. In this case a person would have the option to forego those rights to prove he is not the person on the warrant, but technically he doesn't even need to do that. You don't have to prove your innocence, they have to prove your guilt and you are not legally obligated to assist the police in their investigation. These things are protected under the 4th and 5th Amendment.
"....take an extra 15 seconds" to make sure you're not wrongfully arresting the wrong person. The fact this must be said is indicative of the poor quality of police in America.
Hey Chief, try teaching the employees to take more than "15 seconds" to investigate. That's some of the worst advice I've heard a supervisor give their underlings. Fifteen seconds is a joke.
Well that's what we want. For cops to understand their is a problem and create a policy to correct it. I would also add bring the warrant with you since your job is to serve the warrant.
I'm open to working under the Chief to ensure the department gets past this embarrassment and sets higher standards, updates various policies, revamps the academy and ongoing officer training in order to gain public trust. A law abiding citizen with a good name in the community was ignored, arrested, stripped of his dignity all because an officer failed to take the appropriate steps of verification.
It starts at the top it’s been shown since the secret service debacle that all these directors, chiefs and other leader have no ideal what’s acting on under them the government become so bloated that it needs a redo. The officer is a bottom of the barrel type guy, I want to know what made him go to this guy’s restaurant to arrest him based on a first name only?
Look train your officers as professionals arresting the wrong man is unacceptable especially when civilians are forced many times to provide ID. So if we are forced to provide ID why are officers grabbing our ID'S and not looking at them to determine if they have yhe right person oh because making an arrest is more important so the officer can look like he's doing his job. Ridiculous.
