The original version in Malayalam released back in 1993, that is almost 29 years back. There could have been lot of improvisations in the latest remakes,still Original version is the best amoung them. When rest of the actress copied what shobana did, shobana had no idea of this character and she made it from scratch

As many have already commented, the Malayalam one is intended as a psychological thriller, not horror. For me, it's the best for a very specific reason. The way shobhana dances in the two segments, the reality and the dream or inside her mind or imagination. The contrast is very interesting because the character doesn't actually know how to dance and hence it's so much better in her imagination but in the reality, there's something odd about it, which is almost disturbing and the other actors' reactions also enhance this. They're shocked and then pitying her. The pity is an important difference from other versions. Vishnuvardhan also does it a little in the kannada version but the male dancer in kannada version lacks that certain charm and attractiveness, despite being a good dancer.

While you observing the malayalam version, you can see the transformation in the perfection of dance moves. While showing the old and real nagavalli’s performance, the dance moves and the attitude is at peak. Because the real nagavalli is a professional dancer. But in case of Ganga ( the character who gets the disorder), she is not professionally trained dancer. So her moves are not much graceful. This change you can clearly seen in the acting and dancing performance of shobhana. Director brilliance and best acting of shobhana 🔥

The Malayalam version is superb, not only on this song but also, the story, direction, music, etc. The Malayalam version is also more realistic and there is no gimmicks like Tamil and Hindi versions

Dont judge their performance with a bit of music. As a viewer of these four movies, my opinion is Malayalam version is the best. The original version is malayalam and it telling the psychic disorder of ganga ( shobhana) other versions take it as ghost. Please watch the whole movie then judge...... In tamil, they used LED light to show the ecpression of a ghost in her eyes but in the Malayalam version there is no extra camera wrks to show the expression of a psychic person..... Shobhana mam did it very well. for her fabulous performance she got a national award for this movie Manichithrathazhu was released in 1992 and chandramukhi 2005... So dont compare it with the backgrounds and camera works😌

Malayalam version is the best 1. Shobhanas acting 2. Shobhanas dance 3. The expression Every other version just tried to blatantly copy her steps and signature moves, but failed miserably. This might be the reason she won the National award for her stellar performance.

the malayalam one has a very special place in my heart, if you watch the movie its extra haunting and its just super original and the song SLAPS when you listen to it so much. my mom grew up with the malayalam and it's still her fav movie till this day

Being a 90's malayali kid, Manichithrathazhu was something I was proud of. A movie so well written, directed and god, the performances by everyone. It was mind-blowing experience for me as a child. But when I watched the Tamil version and watched the torch light hit Jyothika's eyes, combined with her funny expressions, I burst out laughing. Even today I can't control my laughter when I see it. I was really surprised to see it wasn't your no.4. may be it appealed to me differently as I had Shobhana's version in mind.

This scene is not a dance performance it's the discovery of multi-personal disorder and the song has powerful meaning. Malayalam movies are always good at making raw content.

Although I grew up with the tamil version and it will always be my favorite song wise, in the Malayalam one shobana killllled it with her dance that you can tell she is a professional

Malayalam version is the best in every sense- the acting, storyline, performance, etc. Even if you leave the dancing part to one side, you need to see how Shobana acts as a possessed character (for proof watch the transformation scene separately when her husband finds out for the first time that she is possessed). With other versions, it is just like a bad joke either by trying too hard or just making it comical. In Tamil, a light effect is flashed over Jothika's eyes... it makes me laugh not scared. The acting is totally off and wasted in Tamil. The same with Kannada version too. At least the Hindi version is somewhat bearable. Maybe I am saying all this because I so accustomed to the original Malayalam version and the bar is set so high that it near impossible to match it. Nevertheless, I think if I am entitled to judge, I'd give the highest rating to Oru Murai Vantha Pathaye, overall.

As a keralite, I am thankful for the effort they put in remakes. True, they didn't have Shobhana and changed some story elements to suit their viewers, but they tried with a good enough budget, casting & artists.

I do love all of them,but the Kannada version holds a special place in my heart coz I used to be a bharatnatyam dancer myself and was fascinated by her character to the point of feeling a great sense of empathy towards the character and would try to replicate Soundarya's(the actor from the Kannada version) dance moves.Sadly Soundarya passed away shortly after the movie was released in a plane crash,which makes it much more tragic and close to my heart.

The original storyline show cases a physiological situation and not a ghost so in original video Shobhana clearly portrays the helplessness , the mental instability and illusion (the perfect portrayal of the character she is playing). In my opinion, the other versions tried for a more spooky setting like a ghost story . The acting I felt was not realistic and did not do justice to the character ; Since the original storyline is a psychological thriller and not a horror movie ; and I couldn't get onboard with the acting and the adaptation

Obviously Malayalam version ( original varsion) is the best which made Shobana as the National award winner by her great performance as “ Ganga “ and “ Nagavalli” and can’t forget the role of Mohanlal as a psychologist ❤

As a malayali, the movie Manichitrathazhu, was I grew up watching and listening and I am pretty sure I have watched it more than 100 times much like most mallus. Every single malayali would have watched the movie and groove to it's every single songs like me. Also as a rock/metal fan who despises pop songs (including indian songs too), if i still keep this song in my playlist all cos of nostalgia;) Just a fact, the language of the songs are different from the language of the movie. Tamil movies always have the best songs, theres no doubt. But there is one thing i don't like about tamil movies which is the overacting. Malayalam always did a great job with both acting and storytelling, and i feel like everything connects in a way when it comes to malayalam movies. Hindi remake was quite unecessary and idk i felt like south indian industry is enough for this story and remakes. North India doesnt have to mix in and try to fit into it. Either way my personal favorite based off both movie, storytelling and acting is malayalam, but the song i will give it to tamil. And the malayalam movie focused more on the story and character telling. And the others were remakes as well so i feel like Shobana did an amazing job at portarying this character she had no idea about where the other actresses in the remakes could just copy it and act it out in their own but similar way

Malayalam version (Manichitrathazhu)is more of a psychological thriller than that of horror, it was filmed in 1993 so of course technology wasn't much evolved during that time, so there weren't LED lights for focusing, after all Shobana ma'am's eyes were pretty enough to scare us, Malayalam version has a mixture of all comedy horror and psychic instances, they were measured and portrayed in a perfect amount. I would only appreciateJyothika for her performance since she didn't know classical dance, but nailed the performance. Malayalam version is more realistic For example: The poisoned coffee scene, if you compare you can see Rajnikanth flying in Chandramukhi where as it is a mere jump to save the time in Manichitrathazhu. And songs were chose to be sung in one raga AHIRI 1. Pazhanthamizh (where he locks someone else instead of the person possessed with Nagavalli.) There is a clear reason because, Nagavalli enjoyed songs in Ahiri raga and psychiatrist did observe changes in Ganga(Nagavalli), so instead of looking for spookiness try to look for some logic here After all MANICHITRATHAZHU is the father of all other remakes

For the malayalam version, I don't think she was supposed to look spooky. If you could understand the lyrics, you will know that she is in search for her lover. You don't have to be spooky to convey that . And also it's not important to show the story in the song cause it's just a part of the movie which explores that story. And most importantly, she was not possessed, it's a split personality disorder.

Shobana is one who gave Birth to that song ...rather 3 of them just imitating her,but also it's sooo gud ....but shobana is shobana ❤❤ without any special effects,over makeup.....she gave her top-notch performance there 👏👏👏👏

Manichitrathazhu - 1993 Chandramughi - 2005. There was huge year difference btw these two...so my opinion is Malayalam version is the best...They can only perform what they had during that time only. Tamil version got advanced things than malayalam. So thats it...

As a Malayali I agree rara has this drama in it and many people like it. But many people look for this horror, possessed things. But actually it's not horror or possessed. She is at a state of mind where she is hallucinating it. Manichithrathazhu the og has got the emotion and pain in that lyrics. They have not gone for over make or extra lights for eyes etc...Shobana mam choreographed the dance. She won a national award . Conclusion If manichithrathazhu didn't exist there won't be any other remake.

Being a Kannadiga. I loved Shobana’s acting. She is the original and others all tried to imitate her. Shobana cannot be in the competitive comparison here because she is original. The competition should be with Kannada, Tamil and Hindi. In this Soundarya acting was bit natural like Shobana but jyothika’s acting is like possessed annabelle doll.

Actually I have to say something..😅 The original movie plot is owned by malayalam…the last one you seen in this video.. this story is about a girl with split personality disorder. If you gives more attention to the deatails in the malayalam song, you can see the girl in the malayalam movie, she thinks that she is the ‘ nagavally ‘ from old times..but in reality she is just a girl called ganga , a split personality disorder patient. You can see, in the the reality, the girl ‘ganga’ is mocking like a old time dancer through this dancing and she halucinating the old time of nagavally.. while she dancing, ganga is not showing perfection in bharathanatyam steps especially the mudhras and she halucinating the perfect steps in a big palace like the old time. and also you can see the ramanadhan, the dancing man in her halucinations is not dancing in the real time. You know the original version is a Psychological thriller and the remakes are horror movies.. because the malayalam film industry is more realistic than others at that time.. I think so..and malayalam version is far older than the remakes.. the malayalam movie shows more originality in history, choreography, dressing style and everything..but in other languages.. the movie plot is just used for a masala kind movie that holds more superstar romantic scenes and horror😅 I dont know why they add this stupid horror??
