I must re-refer to your video for future trips to the French alps, we too are fans of the area during summer, one of places you will probably really like is Le chatelard the camp site is Les cyclamens, with a few essential amenities just a short walk away. Mount Columbus is directly opposite the site and provides stunning views I won’t spoil what you can see from the 6000ft summit, it’s about a 2-3 hour walk each way starting from the village at the start of the climb or add 30mins from the campsite
Enjoyed this video, really useful. Just a thought as we are planning a similar route with our dog. A lot of the hikes or sights appear to need cable car help to get to the right levels. Did you see any dogs in the various cable cars? Trains? Etc. looking like yourself for France to Switzerland onwards.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. To be really honest we don't really take much note of where dogs can go - apart from seeing the signs that they are not allowed in the Vanoise National Park. For most parts when we are in the Ski resorts we still just hike from the village as the lifts soon add up and there are plenty of different routes all well signposted. Hi we are Canadian with UK and Portuguese citizenship. Very Lucky. We dont know where we Should buy a travel van. How do you find driving your van in France? Any issues with driving on the right side of the road when you go to EU?
With our van only being small, Richard finds it ok driving in Europe - His main issue is just driving on the wrong side of the road when the roads are quiet or in carparks and remembering where he should be!! At least you would be used to that anyway 😊 Happy travels when you do get over here - what a great trip you will have - will you visit Portugal too? We find the Wild Guides a great starting point for our trips, particularly if it is an area that we know nothing about. There is one for the Yorkshire Dales where we live and we have discovered places within just a few miles that we never knew existed! I think there is a wild guide for Portugal that has just come out.
Absolutely brilliant video guys! So informative and inspirational. We are so inspired that we’re thinking of heading there this summer, so I have a question.. are all of the roads accessible for a 8.5m motorhome? Or are there some areas that would not be suitable for us?
Hi it is an area we absolutely adore and it’s is so beautiful. Having only driven a 5m camper to the Alps I would not know how easy it is to access the roads, most of the ski resorts have the coaches taking people up to the villages so size wise it should be fine. Beyond the resorts on the tight switch backs of the Cols could be more tricky? It is probably a question you could ask other motorhome travellers on the facebook ‘travelling europe in a motorhome’ group 🚐 happy travels wherever you end up

Really enjoyed this video. But I have a problem - I don’t like heights. I especially don’t like driving on narrow roads with massive drops. That said, some of the places you’ve visited look fantastic. Could you recommend places to visit that don’t involve huge drops? To give you some perspective, I’ve driven up Mount Ventoux a few times. The Wild guide sounds well worth investigating.
In the french alps most of the roads are not too bad - not been to mount ventoux but noted some switch backs so you should be ok. The drop down from the col de roselend felt extreme. I am not good driving to the ski resorts in winter when there is snow and ice on the roads which in my mind make it more unpredictable but it feels different in the summer! Most of the roads to the ski resorts are not too narrow as they have to get the buses up there. The Alps are truly stunning - I am sure you will find loads of places to explore 🚐

We have not been in Morzine but have visited many areas of the Alps in July and august. They are much busier which surprised us but there is a great atmosphere and more facilities open

@@earlyretirementwanderlust Thank you. We were wondering what would be the best time of year to visit. I'm not a fan of when it's too hot but it tends to be a lot cooler in the mountains anyway, like you said 🙂
We went in September and the temperatures were lovely. The benefit of the mountains is that it gets cooler at night which makes it easy to sleep. Just be aware that alot of the ski resorts start shutting down their summer programme in early September...and they really do become ghost towns after that!
After seeing some of the amazing places you visited in this vlog I cannot wait to see them myself! I immediately bought the book and started planning for June, only to find (as you kindly hinted at Jackie, thank you) the entire central part of the national park is strictly no dogs. They are allowed in areas outside of this, but I don't know yet how many of the great places I want to visit are in the main national park. I'm slowly working through that. Maybe I'll have to leave the dogs at home for this trip 😂 Thanks for sharing these locations ☺
There are so many fantastic places to visit outside of the national park so I am sure you will find lots to do - I just remember chatting to a couple with a dog who had mentioned they were a little bit more restricted. We want to do some of the southern french alps next time - gorges de Verdon area. Happy travels wherever you end up 🚐
Wow what stunning scenery, how awesome that you can drive to France, good job Australia has plenty to keep us busy for a few years being an island. That was really interesting, do you do anything with your photos? I will have to check out wild guides to see if any in Australia.
The Alps in general are just the most fab place to drive to and explore, we could literally keep travelling and exploring there for years if we didn't have the family commitments. We take so many photos on our travels! It's one of the reasons we started writing the weekly blogs - somewhere we can put our photo's for people to see. We do some freelance writing for campervan and motorhome magazines that use a lot of our photo's.
You’ll love the Alps north of the French Riviera “Parc National de Mercantour “ and a multiday hike to the valley only accessible on foot, the Vallee des Merveilles”.
That is definitely an area on our list - the wild guide covers some of it but we ran out of time on our last trip. I like the sound of the multiday hike - we will do a little bit of research. Thanks for the recommendation and thanks for watching 🚐

Fab video, great tips again, we are feeling inspired but we will have to check the parks as we will be traveling with our lab. I will order that Wild guide & ASCI card, the Wild guide looks very useful.
Thanks - the ACSI card is generally valid up to the first week in July and after the last week in August but even so has saved us so much money in the past. Happy travels 🚐
