Civil engineer here who specializes in municipal drainage. Agree with the use of nonwoven geotextile filter fabric as soil separator. We have high groundwater in my area where water seeps from under the concrete road panels creating a road hazard. We design and construct subdrains (aka french drain) below roadways to manage the groundwater. We use an 8oz filter fabric with 3/4-1.5 washed stone and a 6-inch perforated SDR35 pipe (overkill for residential but same concept). Consider using an additional directional clean out at the top of your run for access and cleaning. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing 👍

It’ll be cool if you did some follow up videos. To see the systems working during a rain event. Pretty cool stuff though buddy

How deep do you typically dig your trench at the most shallow point?

I feel like open french drain is the way to go putting sod or dirt on top of it will slow everything down.

@@gameboyinc4694 Open French drain is definitely faster no doubt but once the grass roots into the fabric on a closed French drain, water travels down the roots through capillary action and enters the drain. These systems work better and better each year once the grass roots take hold.

Where did you get the fabric stapler and what type of staples did you use?

Can you please link the filter fabric you used? Also, can you tell me if you recommend 3oz over 4oz filter fabric in clay soil? I plan on doing a french drain this spring and currently getting my product list together. Thank you~ from swampy Baton Rouge Louisiana, The Bayou State.
