I grew up that way. Every Sunday, we would have dinner at either my grandmother's or great aunt's house. There were four generations eating dinner together. And I'm American.

My grandparents from Italy, a great grandparent from Monaco. I am a So Cal girl with the Italian/French way of eating instilled in me from an early age. I love cooking one pot meals filled with veggies, sometimes a meat and fresh herbs and a side of pasta, rice or quinoa. Sharing with friends and family. The best! And what better way than to eat outdoors. Your meals look yummy, you are very fortunate to have the family and lifestyle you have and it’s wonderful how much you appreciate it.

What a lovely family! Thank you for sharing. The thing that struck me for the first meal was how simple and economic the ingredients are. Bread beans potatoes and veggies so fresh - even if brought at a market are relatively economical. Portions were smaller but the food was common and you could get more if you wanted. What did surprise me was that after lunch with your deserts you did not have coffee on the table. (Understandable in the evening meal) also very interested in the herbal warm drink was it from fresh herbs or shop brought bags/loose leaves.
@Edukalebylucie
@Edukalebylucie 2 года назад
Yes, we like to focus on simple, cheap, whole ingredients- it's best to feed a lot of people! For coffee, usually those who drink it have a cup after lunch, but we don't make a pot of coffee for the table or anything. And the warm drink was from fresh herbs, but we also get the store ones sometimes!

People saying the portions are small...... 🤔🤔 Nuts, a large salad, bread, good sized scoop of potatoes and one of beans, bread, cheese, dessert, chocolate. That is a LOT of food for one meal. I'm true blue American

I said the same thing! I watched what her mom ate in a day and I told my husband this woman eats WAY more food than I do! There’s no way I could have fit all of her salad in my body. I’m convinced it’s not the portions. I think it’s that our food is poisoned in the USA.

@@marinaleichis997 I cook all of my meals from scratch. The foods available in my local areas are not good for you. The flour to make your own bread is poisoned with chemicals. I grow my own veggies. Arkansas is an agriculture state. Chemicals spraying out of plains all the time on pastures and crops. It’s really sad.
@marinaleichis997

@@brandynash1409 flour comes bleached or unbleached. I buy the latter or organic when on sale. Commercial farming uses pesticides everywhere. Otherwise food would cost even more than it already does and farmers wouldn't be able to grow ebough of it. Buy organuc if you can, and always wash your produce well.
@brandynash1409
@brandynash1409 2 месяца назад
@@marinaleichis997 I understand what you’re saying. I’ve known and taught these things for a decade now. Like I mentioned, I live all around agriculture. There are ways around it as I know people who do it. Our foods are also GMOS which our bodies do not communicate as food. So, we eat more because we have t received the nutritional factors from the food. Europe does not use GMO foods. We can do the best we can, but it still doesn’t change the fact that our foods and water are poisoned. Even organic. Our olive oils are also cut with seed oils. To be able to buy good quality foods you have to have the money to buy from good sources. Unfortunately, not everyone lives close to a supermarket. Our closest one is 1 hour away. And people can not afford $10 for 5lbs of organic flour when a $25lb bag is only $8. The unbleached is still GMO as well. We all continue to do our best. Other countries like Europe and Russia dont have to use the chemicals we do on our foods and they feed their people just fine. We have been fed a lie in the ISA that people would starve if they didn’t use it. Americans are just to lazy to do it themselves. And the ones who do it themselves get poisons drifted onto their foods and the crops are killed. Or their fields cross pollinates grandpas country gentleman corn and he gets sued for saving his seed when the GMO company is at fault and grandpa has to sell his farm to pay the lawyer fees. And let’s not forget the fact that local gardeners can’t even use their own manure from their own animals because of the grazon in the hay. If you use it as compost, your entire garden shrivels up. So... now we must buy the cheap flour and the gmo veggies. I’m not arguing. I’m just stating the facts that I see with my own eyes because I live in it everyday. And I’ve had personal experiences with these things.

I'm French and this is NOT a TYPICAL French family meal, especially for a festive Easter. Been invited myself into different families for Easter and prepared myself festive meals for 8. It's a meal for a certain type of amily and only somewhat representative (lamb, beans). I understand that a good part of the attending people are vegatarians. Most French aren't. 1) the amount of food is minuscule for the size of the group (12?). A normal Easter meal would include more courses and bigger portions, like asparagus, homemade pâtés or terrines, hard boiled eggs and salmon -for example, and the "entry" was only salad. 2) the lamb seems somewhat over-cooked and cut the "wrong" way, normally it's sliced. Obviously there were leftovers! 3) you obviously don't drink much wine with your food. 4) no Easter table decorations Don't misunderstand me. You eat what you want and the way you want and it's absolutely nothing "wrong" with it. But please don't make it "typical", especially when adressing a foreign audience. Just say it was YOUR Easter meal.

Dad failed with the American accent. The only American thing was he spoke English. 😅 He seems really nice though. Is it just me or does anyone else think that left over soups and stews taste better when it's a left over? Yeah my family meals look like that. With the exception of wea the cheese is. We usually do meat and cheese as an appetizer with some fruit.

So I am enjoying your videos a lot. My family came from Canada and naturally carried with it a lot of French culture (I live in the US). One thing I noticed is, for lack of a better word, knife culture that looks the same for France as well as Canada or at least the Canada I know of. As an American cook, I am used to using a chef's knife and a cutting board and I keep my knives as sharp as possible. In these videos I noticed that the knives are smaller in length and judging by how much effort its takes to cut things, they are not very sharp. I also see that, like my mother, some people in the videos do not use cutting boards but instead use small knives and cut upwards using the thumb as a guide. I can say from experience that you can get used to working with anything any way you want. But for me I do not think I'd want to try using knives as depicted here. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing French culture. It is delightful.

i love how much emphasis there is on vegetables and whole grains, potatoes, legumes! most people think the french eat a lotttt of butter and steak all the time... not true... the meat if eaten is very small portion and it is not like people are chugging croissants all day every day and drinking liters of dairy/butter. this is how you eat healthily! also love that you're a french vegetarian, Lucie! Do you talk about just your lives, what you are doing? Are there any controversial topics you dont talk about? politics, religion etc? Do family members ever get into arguments? Is there pressure for anyone to keep the conversation going? I find this so interesting.

Hi! The way I grew up in the 1970-90 in US. If you don’t learn how to cook will be really hard to stay healthy. On no meds. EASY- recipes needed! US needs to cook from scratch, most people don’t know how easy it is to cook a whole chicken. Skip herbs just salt and begin from there. Hard boiled egg etc so they don’t have an excuse of too complicated. Basic. Also hi light the importance of fermentation that takes place in your bread, pizza, wine, beer, cheese etc. In US prepared products are made so fast this important step is so sped up so as making the bread/beer not only tasteless but not good for you. Ex- 1 month fermentation on beer has no sugar in it. 1 hour fermentation has almost as much as soda. Hook up with French cooking school and get recipes together. Thank you so much for helping my country get healthier!!😊

My family had holiday meals in a more formal manner. The good porcelain china is used. Sometimes crystal and silverware. We always had cloth tablecloths and napkins. We ate all of the coarses together except dessert. However they would last a long time. Also, the menu items that we serve may have 15 or more ingredients and were much more complex. However our Sunday dinners were closer to what you were showing. This sometimes includes Aunts and Uncles with cousins. These were more casual, but our holiday dinners were formal and more religious. Our family dressed in their nice outfits. Everything was much more formal. One side of my family would have wine or beer on holidays. The other side did not and was more formal.

The problem I have is getting the family to enjoy each others company,it’s all gulp the food down as if it’s a race, then those so bloated waiting for over an hour for desert, but falling asleep or out side puffing, I Then am just trying to clear away because of the mess of stale food and dirty dishes. My daughter and I enjoy eating together in the garden with the children,taking time a little and often trying things here and there fruits with savoury and delicious breads that do not come out of a plastic bag, fresh clean tastes on china and mismatched dishes and glasses that clink, we later retire to do dishes in the dish washer and then back to the garden to enjoy the the peaceful life without men about.

Thank you so much for sharing this. At one time families predominately all sat down to eat together especially during the holidays. Sadly in the USA, too many always eat on the run and we've lost something. Also, it became habitual to eat during the day and never sit down and enjoy a meal or wait until one felt hungry which is one reason so many of us are so fat.

This was delightful to watch. Thank you for sharing it and to your family for being willing to participate in it. Since the channel is about balanced and healthy eating, I wonder if anyone would be interested to know what people might have for breakfast and lunch (lighter meals perhaps?) on the day of a celebratory Easter dinner like the one you had. Thanks again for sharing!

The video is very interesting , different and nice .., im just very curious - don’t you make in France colored eggs for Easter and eating some of them at lunch or it’s just not typical for your family ? It’s very unusual for me :))

I don't know if it has always been that way in the US but here easter eggs are filled with candy more than chocolate. Growing up in France, my parents would hide chocolate eggs and chocolate bunnies in the backyard and we would have to find them. Kinder surprise were the best
