It's always fun learning about new culture, but it's another story when you actually start living it! In this video, we follow Laure, a lovely French lady who's been living in Korea for a while to pursue her dream of becoming a professional Pansori performer. She sacrificed her stable job in France to move to a foreign land to start a new life. Will she be able to make her dream come true?

My question : if Koreans wear like black it's cultural appropriation. Why tf it's suddenly not ok? Some people said to me that some black people are ok and some don't. I don't think all Koreans are ok with it?? Just asking, is cultural appropriation even legit if the person that wear them knows the history?

Therefore, leads to dangerous ends and more yea. Unlike Korea or America, racism are reported less and tend to not care. My foreigner friends want to leave the country due to heavy spits, shaming and physically hurt by people. You can witness it in streets and wherever you go in areas of mostly foreigners. My fellow people are not afraid to say racism ignorant of you. This is similar for other European countries as my friends/workers/foreign families says. Again not reported or that ignorant towards racism. Not consider an big issue. Most here are all white people none of others.. so lack of knowing and education too. @@mattbundy6795 I think I agree but I really do appreciate the actual diversity shown on the channel. You’re right though about the sugarcoating and I don’t know if the cultures are always portrayed well. I feel like sometimes they act as if Korean culture is modern and superior, like when it comes to sexism (women doing everything for the man) they act surprised when They hear about it in other cultures but I know and read multiple times that Korea is pretty conservative and does the same practices. Even when compared to other cultures where sexism is frequent (Liberian and Indian culture) Korea is similar but they act as if it’s surprising. They also downplay other issues basically most things that are negative like racism, xenophobia, fatphobia, and sexism. However that’s probably because it’s a family show but they are important to address to some degree

@@missm1776 Appropriation is not simply enjoying/participating in a culture that's not your own. Appropriation is profiting from another's culture (especially an oppressed culture) without giving them due credit and recognition. There is a power dynamic of a privileged person/culture stealing from an underprivileged person/culture. A lot of people get confused about this. The people who are singing in this video are simply wholesomely enjoying other cultures, they are not appropriating.

How would you put ‘han’ in your own words, if you don’t mind? I’ve only heard very academic, dry summaries.
@ihatewinia
@ihatewinia 3 года назад
@@namedrop721 It’s a very ambiguous word and even Koreans find it hard to explain the exact meaning. For me, “han” is a painful memory and feeling. It’s a knotted emotional bitterness, regret, resentment, etc. It can be used in so many contexts. For example, if you loved someone and they suddenly moved away or got married and you didn’t tell them about your feelings, you would have that feeling of “han” knotted in the deepest part of your heart. It’s an aching feeling. Another example, if you had always wanted to become an opera singer but grew too old working at a safe but meaningless office job for 40 years, you would have “han” deep down your heart. Another example, if you had an argument with your mom and she suddenly passed away and you didn’t apologize, it will remain as “han” wrenching your heart forever. It’s not easy to get rid of it, and they say you die with it. You can remove it by fulfilling what you couldn’t in that situation, so in this case, confessing your love to that person, becoming an opera singer, and apologizing to your mom. But most of the time you can’t. The only real way to get rid of “han” is to just let go.

I truly admire this Sistas' tenacity, sense of adventure and her growth as a black woman and a human being..... she has not only left her Loved Ones thousands of miles away to travel to another continent and embrace the people, the country, the culture... WOW!! truly brave and wonderfully entrepreneurial - on top of that is MULTI-LINGUAL, her mother tongue, Korean, English & French - how many of us has mastered 4 languages - I wish you good fortune, wealth, health and lots more adventures in your future. A final shout out to your truly awesome friends that you have surrounding you, especially the Elder, much respect - I will endeavour to seek you all out and watch your musical performance when I arrive in South Korea, current global pandemic pending of course.... 🙂🙂🌻 take care everyone

@@magyareuro2173 You are not French, therefore your opinion is not legit. We French are a multicultural people not a race. By the way, the most part of the French people descent from much more ethnic groups than only Franks, who do not exist anymore. Let those who are concerned (French people) tell themselves what the situation is and don't state things you don't even know. Saying that French people are only descendent of Germany Franks is kind of wrong and above all hurting. (Sorry for my English)

@@happache3967 I know the french are not only Germanic as Southern French are other Europeans. I'm European so my opinion is legit enough. TT___TT I'm going to get off RU-vid and start my assignment ASAP. I speak only two languages and this girl speaks 3!! She moved overseas to follow her dreams!! I see so many comments talking about her being Black. Why? Notice how the voice over and the people in the vid never refer to her race or skin color? They just call her by her name, and mention she's French. Americans, THIS is how you treat people in a multicultural environment, not by making everything about race. You will never have unity if you talk about superficial differences 24/7. It's just skin, we're all the same underneath.
@majesticpoutine
@majesticpoutine 3 года назад
Exactly! I was just thinking, it's great the title didn't even mention her skin colour. She's a woman that speaks French normally, who can sing a hard Korean song.

Why are you so pressed ???? Maybe people are mentioning her race because they're proud to see themselves being represented in media ??? Maybe they're mentioning her race because they can recognize parts of their culture in her ??? Tf is wrong with that ?? This whole comment reeks of performative activism. As long as people aren't saying "she's good for a black person" "wow I didnt know black ppl could do that" or something along those lines then NOTHING IS WRONG.
