Thank you! It’s so strange for English speakers when at school learning the French numbers. We did 1 to 10, all good. Then 11 to 16, no problem. Then trouble and confusion starts at 17-19. What you suddenly have to say 10+7 = 17. Plain sailing from 20 to 69. Then things got confusing again. English equivalent of say 71 would be ‘Sixty and Eleven’. Then 81 would be ‘Four twenty’s and one’. Then 91 would ‘Four twenty’s and eleven’. I always wondered why the French don’t just have a single word for 70, 80 & 90! It’s all very interesting and good fun. It just means when I speak my limited French I have the do a mathematical calculation to remember how to say the 70,80,90’s numbers! Merci. 😁

@bozrose7716
@bozrose7716 7 лет назад
Not if you know how it works, look when they say 70 they say:"Soixante-dix" well soixante is 60, and dix is 10, so 60+10=70. Thats how it works and after 10 comes 11, thats why it's "soixante-onze" etc. 80 is quatre-vingts well here we go again, quatre is 40 and vingt(s) is 20 so... 40x2(0)=80 and then you got 90 and that's "quatre-vingt-dix" that means 40x2(0)+10=90. then you go on counting the same way as 70. "quatre-vingt-dix" (90)- "Quatre-vingt-onze"(91). I hope you understand it more now... I tried my best X3

I am a native English speaker, then learned Spanish in high school and finishing up college in the next year or two, I’m fluent. And because of this I have gained an appreciation for other languages and like looking at the etymology of words and where they come from, so having your video with 1 to 100 all spoken out like you have with your wonderful accent, is great. I love seeing the similarities and differences between the language is and how they’ve branched off over time. 😎

@@codplayer8728 I completely agree. Sometimes I have wondered about becoming fluent in more languages. I would like to, and I have the rest of my life to do so. For right now, that’s enough, and I get to increase my enjoyment of learning in small degrees. I’ve got some Time to master Hebrew and Arabic. Lol

It's a good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

In Swiss and Belgium, they say : “septante, huitante and neunante” instead of “soixante-dix”, “quatre-vingt”, “quatre-vingt-dix” and i think that’s more logical and less difficult for foreigners

its Switzerland and are you sure huitante is even a waord? I typed French to English and French box I typed huitante and the same thing appeared in the English box. I checked to see if there were other translations but there were none. Then I typed eighty in the English box and when I checked "more translations" and huitante wasn't there. Please make sure that you are not making this up.

I learned French from when I was 9 till I turned 11, as a part of academics. Basics like numbers, seasons, months, basic grammar, masculine and feminine forms, salutations, some basic description about France with not-so-accurate pronunciation. I haven't practiced it since then. 6 years later, now I want to revise all that and move even further. I watched this video. Turns out, I remember pretty well of what I learned. I want to get good at this. I want to be able to understand and speak with good pronunciation. Can I do it in one month considering the fact that I have the basics almost ready?

I learned how to count to 12 when I did French at school many years ago and then I randomly decided I wanted to learn how to count to 100 so I started teaching myself and I can now count to 70 but then after that it starts to get complicated. 😂😂 This is the most I can count to in any other language. I can only count to 10 in Spanish & Bengali and I can only count to 5 in German. I'm trying 😂

Spanish counting isn’t hard… it should only take u max 1-2 hour to understand Spanish 1-100 French isn’t hard either when u just think of the numbers after 80 as quatre vingt = 4*20 = 80 and that’s all u have to memorize… and just add 1-20 after that. It really isn’t that hard. It does take time getting used to though as French’s system is weird as hell for their last numbers
