The French COS is basically the same as American JSOC/ SOCOM, it's the organization that host all the SF units with in the French Armed Forces, plan and direct the operations. Those "white flag" jokers = those that probably never served and for sure not served with French troops do not understand what a formidable force the French military is and in particular the French SF. Just about two weeks ago French SF killed Africa's Al Qaeda leader/ Emir Abdelmalek Droukdal and several of his men and they've conducted several raids over the years that was very successful. Good video and I've have had the fortune to both serve in the French armed forces ( Foreign Legion ) and also during my years in the military both worked and train with French troops, they are very professional and well trained as well as equipped. There are imo no other force that are more efficient in the African environment as France with centuries of experience in Africa. I even go as far as to say that I think that the French military are the best overall in Europe today if you don't count Russia ( as I do not see them as Europeans ) France have the biggest army in Europe and 5th largest in the world. With all their experience from the colonial era I'd say they are pretty knowledgeable and good at any part of the world. The Legion was praised during the Gulf War by all other forces however they got no shine in the camera light, they totally opened up the left flank and opened the way for the allies troops who hardly could keep up with the legionnaires, that is a fact. Edit: For the Brits and Americans here that whine about "White Flag" and "Surrender" as soon as there is French military involved I suggest you google these battles: Brits. 1. Battle of Singapore 2. Siege of Yorktown 3. Siege of Kut 4. Dunkirk Americans. 1.Battle of Bataan 2. Harper’s Ferry 3. 106th Division Battle of the Bulge ( 2 divisions surrendered ) Then look at French history and see how many battles/ wars they've fought and lost then give them the proper respect. I'm not French but I know my war history and also been in the military for almost 40 yrs ( next year 2021 ). There are some trash military/ units out there but in general I wouldn't say French military is and for those talking smack about the French military they have obviously not served/ worked with these fine soldiers and frankly I doubt they served at all unless it's the "home guard" or some 4 star Call Of Duty gamer. Give crap when it's deserved and honor when that is deserved and not just because you don't like the French or American or British what ever. Had a discussion with a Norwegian guy the other day on this channel that said Swedes was no fighters because they did not get involved in WW2, the ignorance is so high it's sad. I left Facebook because I couldn't stand all the trolls but sadly RU-vid is becoming more and more of the same were all wannabe elite soldiers gets involved in the battle of their life.
@JamesonsTravels
@JamesonsTravels 4 года назад
I agree there is a lot of ignorance floating around for the xbox crowd. From what I know of the French military, I have always been impressed. In reference to Sweden, the politics of who joins a war has nothing to do with it's fighting men. I try to highlight what is good training from my vantage point. Smart leadership in the ranks. Everyone wants to do SF work until they are stuck in Mali for 6 months, deployed for 15 out of 20 years and then have to figure how they mentally exit the game gracefully. Caught up with an old friend who just finished 30 years. Infantry, Recon then MARSOC and a Sgt Maj at SOCOM. The transition is hard. Fortunately advisor works fills his time and he never really got out of the game.
@AndyWoohoo666
@AndyWoohoo666 4 года назад
True words Jameson. I spent a good 10 years straight on different deployments in the mid 90's up to mid 2000, I'm one year from 40 yrs in the military and well no family, no kids so this life has its price. I do not know anything else to do to be honest, sure there is a civilian market but I can't see me in what we call "the civilian hell" simple as that. But just by reading the comments below, sure I respect the opinions that British S.A.S are better and I somewhat agree, the original is often the best but when people start cry French just surrender and especially the Brits who got some great history of surrendering then it gets pathetic. Anyone that has worked with or served alongside French soldiers knows they are top notch and that is not just the SF or the Legion. When you ask these Internet warriors most of them have not even served or if they have they've never been deployed and subsequently never seen French soldiers, that is what is pathetic and actually piss me off. I sure got my temper getting close to 60 yrs and if you're a alpha personality or a "warrior" that is pretty much how you work, aggression is in our DNA. So there is the reason I left all social media except for RU-vid but these internet warriors are f'ing taking over everything, they say "don't feed the troll" but f*ck man I just can't sit still and listen to their BS and crap! Still love your channel and by far the best one out there in this genre also not your fault the morons stack up.

I think the French have a proud military history, and like you say, hundreds of years of legacy and experience behind them. Much like Britain, they have experience in different parts of the world for a long time. I think our armies have become much more specialised in general..... and couldn't hope to compete in large-scale conflicts like America could. Projection of power is still very much real though..... and that's where France, UK and US all excel, and why they have the special forces to be able to punch hard and fast across the globe.
@kevinwilson455
@kevinwilson455 4 года назад
And for sure, the French get made fun of for getting beat in 3 days in world war 2...... but no country could have withstood that Blitzkreig and a fighting force that didn't sleep for that entire time....... not without even radios...... they got pummelled hard and could not respond effectively....... even the telephone wires across the front were taken out uick, leaving the French in total disarray. If it wasn't for Churchill and the uick organisation of our navy and merchant fleet..... the UK's entire army woud have been destroyed as well.
@kevinwilson455
@kevinwilson455 4 года назад
@Astro Nomie I'm sure they did. Listen, the Nazi's pummelled the British in France as well, 100,000 troops on the border with Belgium, and we literally had to run away into the sea lol I watched a documentary recently and a French scout plane actually reported a mass build-up of German troops..... the command did not listen and did not redeploy their troops accordingly.... it was a command fuck-up of the highest order. No one believed they would try to punch through where they did, despite the intel there. Couple that with the lack of radios and radar and the French did not stand a chance. Lot of technological advancements were being made at the time and the French were just not up to speed at all..... the reason the British done so well defending our skies was the fact we seen every attack coming from over 100 miles away, and could intercept. (Radar all over our East south coast), couple that with our navy and the fact we are an island, saved us.

On May 9, 2019, French Navy Commando Hubert, supported by the United States Africa Command, conducted a rescue operation in Northern Burkina Faso that resulted in the deaths of two French petty officers, four of six gunmen died. While the terrorist organization behind the hostage crisis was unidentified, French military believed that the hostages were about to be handed to the Macina Liberation Front, a terrorist organization in Mali. Before the rescue, the abductors had been moving northbound through Burkina Faso, but had set up camp overnight in the Sahel region. The hostage rescue occurred during the night . French special forces approached the abductors' camp, covering 200 meters of open ground before being noticed 10 meters away. The squad managed the recovery of all four hostages of French, American, and South Korean nationality. IN MEMORIAM Maître Cédric de Pierrepont IN MEMORIAM Maître Alain Bertoncello

French are the best disciplined best trained military force in Western Europe by far. I was in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman from 2003 - 2011 and we had some guys from one of our boat companies get their French Commando Badge training with the french in East Africa and they are no joke. Jokes aside about WWII and such their training doctrine, tactics, and discipline are better than any force in Europe and there is a reason we sent men to train with them in coastal raiding tactics.

It depends of the context and the goal of the mission. For peace keeping in kosovo it's the swiss army who is the most effective by rebuilding bridges, water treatment stations and agricultural vehicles... with no weapon and never creating problems. All this with the help of our dear Austrian and German (they were armed) who quickly understood that showing their weapon is uselessly agressive and arrogant. All this just to illustrate that it depends your goal. In the onei i gave, rebuilding peace buy Rebuilding the country have a real effect. Of course if your goal is just to separate belligerent, a military base and involving into other culture and behaving like a an invader then coming with weapon is working... but only in a short term

I have a dear friend who served in one of the finest French parachute regiment. The 13e RDP, a special reconnaissance regiment, part of the French Army Special Forces Command. These men are no jokes. In general the French Spec-ops have a very different mentality than their foreign counterparts, they are extremely low keys and discreet , they don't walk around with a chip on their shoulders, and you generally never heard of what they have done or doing. It is a different state of mind when it comes to Special Operations or blacks-ops. I am glad you are straightening things here, because usually French are being considered cowards and losers, and this cannot be further from the truth.

As a French-American who wants to join the military, the standards in France are so insanely high, honestly from talking to recruiters, becoming a Ranger or any SOG is easier in the US for a variety of reasons. Don't forget that french army have saved the british army at Dunkirk, french army have fought at 1 vs 10 and sometimes 1 vs 30 to protect the british evacuation. Don't forget about the defeat of Italy at 170 000 vs 300 000. Don't forget about Stonne with 2 or 3 times more soldiers the german have lost 4 times more soldiers than France. There are so many anecdotes. A friend of mine told me a very recent one, a simple one that struck me by how unexpected it was. A couple of all terrain vehicles were parachuted in a very tough rocky desert in the night, to attack a small jihadi camp that held western hostages. Timing was accurate and with little margin. Unfortunately, while en route over land at night, one rock cracked the fuel tank on one of the vehicles. All at night and in some crazy place. You'd think the mission was compromised, but no. An aircraft very quickly flew over and dropped a new fuel tank and a mechanic to change it on the damaged car. Less than one hour after the puncture, the operation could resume, and the mission was successful.

what the origianl video failed to mention is that during WW2 the french commandos were not only trained with British forces, but with the SAS themself and therefore SAS was the blueprint for French SF. And by the way, to honor this lineage the French 1st RPIMA has adopted the same red beret as the SAS (worn differently) and the same motto (who dares to win literally translated into French "qui ose gagne"). They are often refered as "French SAS".

You should do a video on the BBC 3 documentary "our war" about Afghanistan. Respect from the UK!

Good documentary that........ I remember some really sketchy firefights that the UK troops were under there...... often having compounds surrounded and the enemy 10 metres away throwing grenades in.
