100% agree with you about developing studying skills in high school. Lots of kids dismiss high school as nothing. I definitely am not the smartest student but working hard was a great stepping for me to help me study in college and med school. Tons of my friends didn't develop those skills and had to delay a lot of time in college. Congrats on your residency interviews and good luck!

Hi Andrea! How would you handle a medical school rejection? The fear of rejection is the only thing keeping me from being 100% sure about doing medicine.

Your grades are not only a number, but also a great outlet to test your work ethic and determination to reach personal goals. :) This is such great advice!

Hey adoctorinthehouse! I'm a HS senior right now and I'm considering the English major with a music major/minor on a pre-med track. Like you, I consider myself a writer rather than a reader. I haven't really read many famous novels, but I'm interested in reading more, and I enjoy reading. What made you choose to be an English literature major? How were the classes? How did it feel balancing your English classes with your science classes?

I'm going to be a sophomore in high school, and really want to go into med school. I was thinking about majoring in English, because I've always loved it and get super involved in it. But my concern is that it'll put me behind for when I enter med school, or at the very least it'll be harder to get into med school without a type of science major...

Hi Andrea! Just a quick question! I have two weeks off school soon and I want to start working out again! Do you think I should wake up at 6 am and run, or run in the evening? And how long should I start with? Thank you!!! ❤️

Could you please answer these questions? What was your GPA/MCAT? How many med schools did you apply to? How many interviews did you get? How many medical schools were you accepted into?
@AndreaTooleyMD
@AndreaTooleyMD 10 лет назад
Hey! My GPA was around a 3.8. My MCAT was in the 90th percentile. I only applied to one medical school because I applied early decision which means you can only apply to that one school. Luckily, I was accepted! Hope that helps!

Hello :) in your video you mention to shadow doctors and do other "Pre-Med things"...what things do med schools get impressed with? What do you mean by things?

hi andrea, I am loving all your videos. I am a med student outside the states, but your tips really do help us all. could you do a video on how you organize your day? like...you wake up at 7am, then you work our, then you study or something like that....I mean I'd like to know how you as a med student, organize your day to fit in all the important things (social, academic, fitness...) THANKS VERY MUCH for doing this. best wishes and happy 2014

Good Video! Currently a Senior in High School (Hallelujah!!) and I have always known I wanted to go into the medical field. Well I have thought about a lot of different parts of medicine. Do I want to be a Dr. do I want to be a Nurse? So when I watch these videos people major in a wide variety of things and still become Doctors how does that work? Also I want to major in Nursing when I go to college, and then I want to make the decision of either staying a nurse or going to med school to be a dr. Does that work or I'm not exactly sure how this whole medical school, or college thing works.. Any answer helps! Thanks!!!

Just graduated high school in may, and Im currently about to start my pre-med classes in college. I have always known I wanted to be a doctor. Now that im about to start college I feel insecure about my capacity as a student. I feel like i'm not going to make it, I also question myself about becoming a doctor.But after nights of thinking I know in my heart I want to be a doctor, and help people. But again my insecurity comes out and tortures me lol. Some advice anyone :)

Hey Andrea, do you mind elaborating on how you think being a non-science major made you stand out and how you incorporated the fact that you had a different major in your medical school application? I graduated with a BA in Spanish, and I'm Pre-Med, and I would just like some tips on how to be more creative! I would really appreciate it if you had the time.

I'm a junior in H.S. soon to be a senior (I want to be a doctor) and I am applying early action to the University of Minnesota. Do you recommend that I go as an undecided major so that I can see which classes I like or should I just declare a major right away? Thanks!

no, it just matters that you graduate from a 4 year university and get your pre-reqs done

Hi I'm in high school really considering going down the medical field path! Do you think SAT scores correspond with MCAT scores? I'm good about working hard and making good grades and school but my SAT scores were not as good as my GPA. I'm afraid I won't do well on my MCAT. What are some of your study habits? Thank you so much! :)
@AndreaTooleyMD
@AndreaTooleyMD 10 лет назад
Hi Amanda! I think the MCAT is a test that you can study for WAY more than the SAT so don't worry. I do think that some people are just naturally better at taking standardized tests than other people, but you can study for the MCAT and get a score good enough for medical school even if you're a bad test taker. I am the type of person who has to write things down to learn them, so I write everything down over and over again- hope that helps!
