Fresh and Flawless: Uncover How Water Treatment Can Elevate Your Brews
Water testing, water reports, pH testing, and water chemistry all sound like we are in a science laboratory, but they are all part of making fantastic beer.
Fresh and Flawless: Uncover How Water Treatment Can Elevate Your Brews
Beer contains approximately 90% water, and the importance of the liquor to final beer quality cannot be overestimated. The water will play a part in mouth-feel, sweetness, bitterness, head retention and even equipment performance. Knowing your water and how to alter it to get the desired profile will elevate your brews and make you a better brewer.
Fran and Nick from Murphy and Son took us through water treatment and gave some fantastic tips and tricks along the way.

I love your videos, when they are indepth and informative like this one it's a real help to the homebrewer. As a side note (pardon the pun), when it's a discussion about detail like in this video, I find the background music a big disctraction.

I’ve never heard it pronounced like that, only ever heard it pronounced potable as in I haven’t got a pot to p#ss in. Also when I get my water bill it gives me a break down of the water supplied.

Great video, i found learning about water chemistry was a game changer for brewing an IPA in Armagh.

Are you familiar with Spotless water ( ultra pure water) and is it a good starting point for the homebrewer ? 🍻

Keen to know this as well. I've been wanting to try it but don't have a filling station nearby. On paper it should work well and I noticed that Spotless water now suggest brewing as a usage on their website (they didn't before). Be interesting to see what the experts say!

I’ve been using it to dilute my London water, great for reducing alkalinity without boosting Cl and SO4 levels from using a lot of AMS/CRS. Depending on beer style I dilute between 0% (dark beers or beers with high Cl/SO4) to 75/80% (lagers, pilsners and othe beers with a very soft/low mineral profile). It is also great for making up StarSan as it doesn’t go cloudy and doesn’t leave soapy deposits on silicone hoses.

@@stripeyjoe I've been using it at 80% to 20% London water for my lagers with good results. I'd still like to know what the guys at Murphy's would have to say about it! 🍻
