Couldn't help but laugh some at 20:45 when you comment on requests for another Spotlight On Westerns. Almost a full year later you posted Vol 2 today. Time really does get away from us. I'm impressed you keep up with as much as you do.
My wife and I went to see Fire in the Sky while we were dating. She was working in A.M. radio at the time and had just recently interviewed Betty Andreasson (The Andreasson Affair (1979). Betty knew Travis Walton and he told her that the scary alien abduction scene in the movie was pure Hollywood. The aliens that supposedly abducted Travis had been benign, and the filmmakers had made changes to heighten the drama. Either way, they created a very effective scene.
At Close Range, loved it and had to bribe a video store out of the VHS back in the day. Grabbed it as soon as I found it on DVD as well. Love many English shows. Used to watch The Avengers, Miss Marple, most any Agatha Christie from anywhere. Loved many Hammer films, Got some new shows last year on DVD, but the names escape me. They are on my ready to watch shelf. Love Scooby-Doo and try to get as many as possible. Love films going way back into the 30's as well. Love Carole Lombard, as well as many other actors of that period. I'm glad to see somebody besides me likes the "good stuff"!
Holy moly the amount of WORK that went into this video is astounding. Seriously. No one else on RU-vid watches ALL of the movies and TV shows they get FIRST before hauling/showcasing them on their channel. NO ONE. It’s gotten to the point where I almost don’t want to buy anything new unless I get YOUR take on it because I know you’re going to give me (and the rest of your viewers) an honest, educated opinion on the movies and shows you’ve seen and hauled. If I see something that catches my interest on someone else’s channel, I’ll go “hmm I’ll wait till Heath talks about it first before buying” Edited to add: Yes, the latest version of Maigret starred Rowan Atkinson. It was quite good!
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. The upside of waiting to watch this stuff is that I am able to provide the most informed coverage that I can. The downside is that sometimes things can sell out, like a few of the Imprint titles in this video, which are now no longer available directly from Via Vision! Still, I think it's worth it.
Great Update! Your really putting that region free player to use! Nice to see some classic british shows in your update too! I try to keep people update on what coming out in the UK week by week on my channel. Looking forward to the next video!
Fantastic new intro Heath! Loved these pickups and I'm just looking into Imprint finally, so this was very helpful. A blindspot of my viewing is British tv shows, I'd love to dive deeper into them. Great video my friend!
I have been addicted to your videos. You have such an infectious personality and passion, and your interests are often different than mine, so I always learn something. Keep it up!
Thanks! I remember seeing Dead Again a few times when it was fresh, and then saw it again 5-10 years ago and I'd forgotten about it, but it came back hard like a bout with Deja Vu. I'm checking out Viavision and the Imprint label because it really seems worth paying attention to. Thinking of picking up Fire In The Sky and I'm going to look for clips of Bless This House, just to see if it's interesting. Got some research to do after you brought up all of this stuff.
Great video 👍 some good titles there . I’m from the UK I collect dvds only because I have a old style TV it’s a widescreen 40” . I love UK mystery series and the classic comedy series. Yes Rowan Atkinson did play Maigret but I think it was just for several special episodes that aired near Christmas a couple years ago . At the moment I am watching mystery classics - 50 movie set from Millcreek and I’m really enjoying it.
I'm sure that you may be aware. Just incase your not. Hamilton Book has got tons of Olive Films titles available. I recently placed an order of twenty titles. 17 of them are Olive. One is Classic Flix and the other two are Just catalogue titles. Olive: The Woods, Jinxed, S.OS. Tidal Wave, Sabotage, It's in the Bag, The Other Love, A New Life, Man of Conquest, Appointment with Crime, Brazil, Cheers for Miss Bishop, Parked, Wusa, McLintock!, 'Neath the Arizona Skies, Carrington, Lulu Belle Classic Flix: A Night in Casablanca Others: The Pebble and the Penguin, The Runaways All on Blu-ray.
I love the snazzy intro by the way. It's quite catchy. You managed to pick up a lot of interesting movies and there are ones that I'm definitely intrigued to want to purchase. At the beginning of the video you mentioned that DVD sales are higher than Blu-ray. I'm really curious as to why that's the case. You'd think that it's the other way around, especially given how affordable Blu-ray players and HDTV's are nowadays. Otherwise, thanks once again Heath for another enjoyable and informative video. I really appreciate it!
It seems that for most of the general movie buying public, DVD is good enough. It's cheaper, there are more titles, and most people simply don't care about having the best video quality. It's hard to believe, but the numbers don't lie. We are the ultra-fans. The movie geeks, the passionate few!
I agree with the idea that if I have the option of disc not matter the format it is still better than not having a disc at all. At that point it is not preserved enough in my opinion. I feel the disc serves as definite tangible example of preserving the film!
Love the British Mysteries, Maigret is a great show (Both Versions). Bless This House is awesome, I will be picking this one up. Watched some of them on RU-vid, don't think it was ever on US TV. Great stuff Heath
Dead Again is one of my favorites with/from Kenneth Branagh. He played Wallander in a British show adapted from the Swedish show. Kenneth played alongside a certain Tom in the Wallander series that he then directed in Thor.
You've probably heard this already, but Joe Rogan did an interview with Travis Walton, the man whose story is the basis for Fire In The Sky! He's a super interesting man, and his story IS terrifying! Amazing movie! :)
Hi Heath, Greetings from Down Under!!longtime fan of your channel. This late in the game ViaVisions Imprint label has been absolute Mana from Heaven. I don’t get everything but I’m hoping for Film Noir Volume 2 to appear. Be interested to see what they next release from a TV point of view as Hammer series was awesome.
Huge fan of mysteries especially British ones. Rowan Atkinson did just do a series of Maigret films. There have been a lot of adaptations of the French detective Jules Maigret. Kino put out two Jean Gabin Maigret films Renoir actually directed the very first Maigret film. Charles Laughton played him as well. My better half is a huge fan. Midsomer Murders is one of my favourite long running British mysteries and as for the newer stuff I highly recommend is Bancroft
A while back, I found a few seasons (series) of Midsomer Murders at a thrift store, but I didn't buy them because the first few volumes weren't included. I passed over them, but now I think that was a mistake.
Hey Heath. A few things. First, great video, and great opening. Waiting for the inevitable Twilight Zone style voice over for the opening. Second, loved the Snowpiercer movie, but could not get into the series. For fun, look up the connection between Willy Wonka and Snowpiercer on You Tube sometime.
Man, I just picked up Year of The Dragon for Imprint the other day. I'm so glad that it got a proper pressed blu-ray release, unlike the MOD that is Warner Archives release.
Imprint is great, but I gotta add that all Warner Archive Blu-rays are factory pressed. Every single one of them. Some of their DVDs are burned on demand, but some of those are also factory pressed. Warner Archive's Blu-rays are also always region free.
Really? I've seen a few Warner Archives for sale on Ebay especially Year of the Dragon, I asked the seller to see the back of the disc and it was dark blue, which usually indicates a BD-R burn. Good to know than.
I know Branagh from Much Ado About Nothing (FAVORITE Shakespeare comedy, btw), but he's done a lot of good things. The closest I've probably seen to an "amnesia thriller" is Shutter Island--any fair comparison? The Fuller Brush Girl just makes me think of sundry Tijuana Bibles featuring Fuller brush men...Older Than Radio, seriously...The more things change, one might say LOL. Oh, fanart, never change...
You can't beat a good carry on movie. They are like cheeky - British naught postcard humour - still fun today. I love bless this house, Sid James is wonderful. so happy you like them. Remember bless this house being on TV my dad loved it. If you can get hold of it try Love thy Neighbour.
Let's hear it for British telly, what ho? Recommendations would be as follows (if I hadn't mentioned them before, if I have well tough they deserve mention again LOL!) * Chef! *Yes, Prime Minister * Are You Being Served?/Again * Keeping Up Appearances (fun fact, Patricia Routledge was Rowling's original choice to play Umbridge in the Harry Potter films) * As Time Goes By * Vicar of Dibley and I get the strong feeling you would enjoy Fawlty Towers but perpetuallyfrustrated!John Cleese annoys me as a character. I am also enjoying the All Creatures Great and Small miniseries that's the biography of James Herriott. It's on PBS Masterpiece Sundays at 9 PM for the next 4 weeks if you need to catch up!
Great intro. I enjoy the breadth of the films you cover. Re Scooby Doo, the Harley Quinn Animated Season One came out only on DVD, but Warners (or Warners Archive) will be releasing Season One and Two on blu-ray. My favorite British sitcom is FATHER TED. Have you seen that?
Thanks! Very good point about Warner Archive bringing Harley Quinn to Blu-ray. I hold no hope for that happening with Scooby, but I'd be delighted to be proven wrong. I haven't seen Father Ted, but I'm aware of it, mostly from British friends. Another one to add to the list!
Big fan from Australia. I'm suscribed on my other account that I use in my tv. Love the variety of movies and tv shows etc. Would love to see more obscure cartoons. And links on where to find them!
I knew I should not have watched this episode. so I see that imprint offers Year of the Dragon,so I go to their website, and they also have BLACK SUNDAY you can preorder the US blu ray on Amazon for about 50 bucks, but the Imprint is available now for 30 something bucks, and it is also loaded with extras, as is their edition of the original Scarface ...in short spent money I don't have but I also NEED to have these blu rays,. You were right Imprint gives Criterion attention to some lost classics. But man you know how to hurt us addicts.
Yes indeed! And Umbrella Entertainment (the company that released The Fuller Brush Girl) also released the only Blu-ray in the world of The Longest Yard. Region free, too.
I didn’t know it was! That’s been a pricey time life exclusive for quite some time now. It’s getting a wide re-release? If so, you better believe it’. I LOVE Laugh In. EDIT: just found it! Maaaaaaan, I’m so excited. February 2nd!
Not only that but, a few years before the Michael Gambon TV series, ITV did a made-for-TV movie starring..... Richard Harris! So Dumbledore wasn't even the first time that Gambon was following in Harris' footsteps.
Heath, speaking of British mysteries, are you familiar with Jonathan Creek? Excellent show and one of my favorite TV series ever. Btw, love the new graphics and set decor. :-)
That's the show with Alan Davies, yes? I've never seen it, but I like that guy. It looks fantastic, I just haven't watched it yet. And thank you for the kind words!
The Fuller Brush Girl is on my old Mill Creek Lucille Ball 4-movie set First Lady Of Comedy with Her Husband's Affair, Miss Grant Takes Richmond and The Magic Carpet... do you have it? Love Lucille Ball
I do not have that DVD set. It looks like that particular title is out of print and has been absorbed into a newer (2018) 2-disc set that crams ten hours of content onto two DVDs. The disc that contains The Fuller Brush Girl also crams ALL THREE of the other films you mention onto one single disc. The Umbrella Disc is the way to go in terms of best quality, compression, individual case art, and so on, but it's cool to know that this movie has been on a pressed disc before.
@@CerealAtMidnight I don't understand why Mill Creek would release a set that's WORSE quality than the previous one they had 🤔 Can you explain it to me? 😸 Are they nuts? 🤪
Yeah, I don't know. This is all just speculation, so I don't want to take it too far. If it's a two-sided disc, then it wouldn't be worse quality. But if it's a single disc with 4 movies on it, the thinking behind it may be that a Lucy DVD is not an A-list release and will sell more if it's cheaper (less discs means less production costs) and can be stocked at places like Dollar General, Walmart, and so on for a quicker, lower-priced sale. This does happen with them from time to time. I have an older two-disc DVD set of Hey Vern, It's Ernest: The Complete Series. The version I have is now out of print, but there's a new version with all 13 episodes of that show on one single DVD. I think it's about cutting costs for deep catalog releases that don't have high sales numbers.
Not overly. My area of British TV is stuff that was released in the 2000s. Life on Mars, Primeval, Being Human, Robin Hood. I liked who until Calpadie's rain then I just stopped watching it.
Region locking sucks! Especially now that its happening with 4k discs too. Jacqueline Bissett was so fine in The Deep. How the hell can you watch all these between your videos!
Ha! Well, you'll notice I'm taking longer between videos. I posted over 200 videos in 2020, but there's no way I can maintain that pace. I'd rather post more complete coverage once or twice a week than more frequent coverage that doesn't really get into the details.
