Kolchak is truly an amazing series. His voice adds so much the show. It has such an atmosphere for tv, nothing compares to it.

You are correct. In 1977 Children of the Corn was published in Penthouse. It was then later collected in Night Shift, which is where I consumed it. How cool would it be to have that Penthouse though? Bet it go's for a pretty price!

Darin McGavin is always a great presence! I love Raw Deal with him and Schwarzenegger! It is one of my favorites! I remember when he passed away and it was sad to think about because of how much he did for film. I wish I could have met him and had a coffee hour with him. He seemed like a lovable and friendly person. He will be missed!

I read a Tom Cruise biography and Legend was discussed as a box office failure but Top Gun was a smash hit. It’s funny how the years help restore what the original intentions were. Now Legend is such a highly regarded film for fans of cult film, Tom Cruise and physical media lovers!

I jumped straight on the pre-order for Kolchak as soon as i heard it was coming out! One of my favourite tv shows of all time and Darren McGavin is a class act. Have fond memories of seeing the tv movies when i was very young on late night tv in the 70's then later the series was shown sporadically on UK TV over the course of a few years. Always loved it and bought the previous dvd releases - hell, i still have the Guild Home Video cassette of the first tv movie! Can't wait for the blu ray set to arrive as Lorber's blu rays of the movies were great. The 70's was definitely a golden decade for great shows and i loved growing up then.

One of my favorite review videos. Was not aware of the AMERICAN PSYCHO 4k steelbook or the Biography WWE Legends DVDs, but ordered through the links. (Avoided volume 1 from amazon as it appears they have been having trouble with that volume.) I had the original KOLCHAK DVD set. I tried watching a couple of years ago, and certain discs in the set would not play. Don't know if it was because some of the discs were double sided, but I didn't replace at the time. Glad I waited. McGavin was exceptional in the Christmas episode of the second season of MILLENNIUM, executive producer was Chris Carter, and show runners were Morgan and Wong. He played Frank Black's father, and the show was about Black's estrangement from his father and a later reconciliation. McGavin was also the king of tv movies in the early 70's. Wish someone would release TRIBES (with Jan Michael Vincent) and THE CHALLENGE. In TRIBES, McGavin is the D.I. and Vincent is the hippie recruit. In THE CHALLENGE, the US and some Asian country have two men fight on an island to settle a dispute. I haven't seen either film in decades, but I remember liking both.

That’s interesting about your Kolchak DVDs. I’ll have to pop mine in and see if they play. I’ve always had trouble with double sided discs! Ah, McGavin is just so great. I hope we get those two TV movies on disc at some point too.

I watched the first episode of The Nevers a few months ago when I was trialing a new streaming service and I quite liked it! That first episode was action-packed and the writing was fantastic. I've been meaning to continue watching the series but just haven't gotten 'round to it. I will, though, because that first episode totally hooked me. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favourite TV show of all time. Need to rewatch it soon.

I agree about the writing of The Nevers! There are some scenes and dialogue exchanges that are so good, I almost wanted to rewind so I could hear it again. It's a really good show.

They scanned the negative of Legend in 4K but the restoration work was done in 2K. And apparently the film just didn't look great in 4K - the higher resolution tends to bring out the weaknesses of certain films - particularly those with lots of visual or optical effects in them. I believe that is the reason why no 4K UHD release was possible (or undesirable).

Legend also has a lot of that smooth, soft-focus approach that was all the rage at the time, so it does make sense that it wouldn't necessarily be worth presenting it on 4K. The 2K restoration sure does look good, though!

I can't spend other people's money, and you have to weigh those new special features, the booklet, the 21 commentaries, and the visual upgrade to high def against your own unique circumstances. For me, it was a no brainer, but everyone is different. I'll say this: the value is there for the money.

Turner and hooch is good. First episode is bad don’t get me wrong but the show is funny and action packed. And it gives ALOT for a kids show

If I recall correctly: Arrow did not proceed with a 4K release of Legend because there is no surviving negative of the director’s cut, and they said HDR would only make things look worse. Also, I think Universal owns the negative while Fox/Disney has distribution rights to certain cuts of the film.

I love Legend, but I have never seen the director's cut. Is it something I should seek out?

Probably so, yes. It's a true director's cut as intended by Ridley Scott. That doesn't mean it's better, but it's always interesting to see the original creator vision and compare it to the finished, released product. I'm grateful that this new package includes both cuts, complete with Ridley Scott's commentary on his longer cut. Two different score options in this new release too: Tangerine Dream and Jerry Goldsmith!

@@CerealAtMidnight Thanks. I'm always careful about these things, particularly when considering buying a movie I already have. I remember getting the Pitch Black "director's cut" and I literally couldn't tell the difference. Any time I re-purchase a movie I already own, then that's money that could be spent on something new ...UNLESS the director's cut is something of a different experience. So I like to ask around, and make sure I don't buy anything I regret paying for.

Ah, that's a good point. The Pitch Black extended cut is something like three minutes longer, I believe. Ridley Scott's director's version of LEGEND is 23 minutes longer.

I literally went to Best Buy for that AP steelbook before I even finished the video. Despite loving the movie, I didn’t have it in any format and to get it in two for $20 was too good to pass on.

On a related note, my local Best Buy's movie/TV shelf is down to a pathetic half aisle. I'm trying to order more online (and use your links when relevant), but I have a hard time breaking the habit of paying in cash in stores and it's getting so hard now.

I bought American Psycho a while back, but I haven't watched it yet. I'm tempted to buy The Nevers because it has an X-Men feel to it and I'm a huge fan of the X-Men. I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Flash. However, I missed the last few seasons so I have to do a lot of catching up as a result. I'll have to pick up Legend as soon as I get the chance to do so. Otherwise, thanks as always Heath for another informative and enjoyable video. I really appreciate the hard work!
