When I was first getting into specialty tea I always rolled my eyes at his dramatic tasting notes. But listen, now that I'm experienced I totally get where he's coming from. When I listen to his tasting notes now I can imagine my experience and it's always completely accurate. Every note here is something I have experience with other quality tie guan yin, with out a doubt

@@DokiDokiDoku Don is what got me into Gonfu cha back in 2016 and I have been drinking tea daily since then, from many brands including his. Most of his tasting notes are generally appropriate and reflect the tea. His over dramatization is marketing.

I think he has hyperosmia. Some people smell better than others. Some people smell worse than others (usually they would be the one with hygiene issues since they can't smell that well and don't know they smell bad)

While I agree with the sentiment, China remains not only the birthplace of tea but the best (and in some case only) source for many of the world’s finest cultivars and tea types. Furthermore, to punish the farmers and producers of these wonderful teas serves no good purpose. We aren’t going to accomplish anything good by banning tea. Where possible, manufacturing of Western goods should be resourced to other (more democratic) nations. But if you know much about the subject, tea is not a product that can be replaced by production of any other country or countries. We should continue to form peaceful but strong alliances with like-minded nations to try and affect change through diplomacy and negotiations. History shows that when trade relations stop between countries, war is often next. Tea is a universal beverage which has the power to draw people together. It helps to promote greater cultural and human interaction. Tea may be one of the few ways to promote better understanding between peoples and help to keep us out of war. I fully believe that Don Mei is a living example of someone able to bridge Western and Eastern culture and promote mutual acceptance and understanding. He is doing a good thing, which can only serve to promote peace. Thank you, Don, for bringing us such a richer understanding of all things tea, and for being our ambassador to China and the world, in the name of the beverage we love.

By this logic, we should boycott American products 3 times over before even thinking of boycotting China. Just to deal with the examples you've raised, fewer people died throughout the much longer-running HK protests than in the George Floyd protests. And for all that you consider China's "threats" towards Taiwan, it hasn't taken part in a single war since 1979, whereas the number of wars the US has been involved in since then cannot be counted on both hands. I'm not even one of those people who think that all of the US's invasions are unjustified, but a lot of them most certainly weren't, and that's a hell of a lot worse than 0. I strongly urge individuals like yourself to take a critical look at the anti-China propaganda being shoved down your throats 24/7. It is a flawed country of course, perhaps more so than most. But to give the US, of all nations, more moral credibility than China just reeks of historical ignorance and indoctrination.

So you suggest Don should file for bankruptcy and let his family starve because you feel like boycotting China’s teas. His whole business is based on Chinese herbs and teas. There are no alternatives.

I would be willing to consider this for other replaceable products, not tea.
