I enjoy your videos, especially when you get stumped and have a tough time figuring out the problem. Seems like we learn more when the fix is harder! I also enjoy the fact that you take the 'victim' of the video out for a spin so we get to see it in action, then we know that you really did repair it

you inspired me to rebuilt my recently bought dilapidated enduro125, its the only bike I can afford on marketplace😅 exhaust barely hanging with wires it has no braces at all, make one from alluminum, the owner said the front fork needs alignment coz it fights off during driving, found out the T post is just over tightly screwed 😊, done tune up, replaced it with new carb, and its good to go, I just need to replace sprockets to high speed, I can see people with their shiny new enduros, but I love mine❤ I make it and will make improvements, its good to have a bike that you know every bolts and nuts, more power to your channel😊

When I was a kid and up into my early 20s, I could work on anything with confidence that I could fix it. And I usually did! I'm in my 50s now, poor eye sight, poor finger dexterity, pain all over my body, nearly tore my left thumb off the last time I went riding my KTM 450 with my nephew, in Oct 2018. Haven't had the confidence to finish the repairs to my bike or install the expensive upgrades. I spent a lot of money.🙄 After watching like 2yrs worth of your videos, I think I can easily get my KTM back on the trails. If neck, back, knees, ankles and messed up thumb will allow it. Lol Thanks for such informative vids!! P.S. I might look old, but I can out ride my nephew and any of his friends. I look like a professional next to them. I'll be watching! Maybe get an 08 KTM 450 and do a complete rebuild on it and convert to street & trail. That'll give me a video to help me with mine. 😁

Joe, while you start your initial checks on the bikes, quads..you might want to start with the ignition/kill switch. It could save a lot of time looking for starting problems, and may even save money on buying unnecessary wires, plugs.. I have 5 quads and lots of farm equipment, and can't tell you the money and time I've lost replacing unnecessary things, only to find out the problem was the ignition or kill switch! Great video! Allan in Columbia, SC
@NubsWithGuns
@NubsWithGuns 7 месяцев назад
How do you know he didn't? It's kinda obvious when it's just the switch.(depending on your ignition system I should add, the bike I am used to woking on uses a magneto ignition that needs nothing but rpms and a spark plug to work so forgive me if i forget that sometimes) Disconnect the kill wire first, if you have spark theres no reason to replace the coil is there? You put it back together and theres no spark O.o what's wrong with it?(ignoring the plug, I always just grab a new plug even if the one in it works, cheap insurance). However, on some machines there is 500 other things in between which makes things harder. But the switch is where most that taught me would say to start at that point. I am a horrible teacher and my words sound a little harsh sometimes but I truly was just trying to help you here. I haven't learned much without doing it wrong the first time anyway. (gotta know what not to do so I get it out of the way right off the bat)

Thank you so much for making such detailed videos like this! I’m currently troubleshooting a recent purchase I made of a 1993 kx80 with extremely similar symptoms. It would fire for a good bit, then bog and die, then not start for a good time and you had to let it sit for at least 15 min until it would go again. Plugs was always black and wet. I’ve cleaned the carb and adjusted the floats as well as checked my fuel system, but after seeing this I will be going through the carb much more thoroughly. Hope I just missed something
@timjordan3671
@timjordan3671 7 месяцев назад
Drop that carb needle down and it will get rid of the low end bog. The engine is getting too much gas too soon on start. A little bit means alot i think youll find. Experiment with each setting until you get the desired reaction. Could also be the saddle (the missing piece) is not seating properly.
@JoeTheBlacksmith13
@JoeTheBlacksmith13 7 месяцев назад
I thought the needle adjustment only effects low/mid to mid/high rpm. The pilot effects low rpm, and main effects high rpm. No?
@timjordan3671
@timjordan3671 7 месяцев назад
@@JoeTheBlacksmith13 the idle jet just keeps it running at idle. But if its the wrong size there can be a stumble between the transition. The needle starts to move immediately upon opening the throttle. Its amazing what a difference a small adjustment will make. You can purchase polished/tapered needles for most machines that really make a difference. Often overlooked in the performance upgrades.

It sparks fine but keep wearing out the kick mechanism why dontcha. However doing a plug check (you could go a touch leaner although is the carb needle back to stock now?) and re-testing compression was good practice.

Another nice job Joe. You really oughta think about getting yourself one of those cheap borescopes from HoboFreight so you can add reading "piston wash" to your repertoire of tuning. It's every bit as good as reading the plugs if not better. Also, when reading the plugs, you should hold it wide open heading towards your truck and shut the power off with the throttle wide-open until you roll to a stop. That will let you know how it's running at wide open throttle which is where these things tend to burn down. Anyway, read up on reading "piston wash" and get yourself one of the cheap borescopes from Hobo. A guy as meticulous as you would love to add that to your tuning techniques. I promise. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
