I"ll love Fresno all my life. I lived in this beautiful and amazing city for 12 wonderfull years and I drove over this febomenals freeways many times. I say hiiii from Colima Mexico to all the beautiful people from Fresno.
+GroomLeader : Yeah, the accident rate along that 1 mile section of CA 180 has dropped by 85%, since the braided ramps opened. A huge improvement, indeed!
@@r4ls3i60 Not that I can think of. I think there's something kind of resembling a braided ramps system proposed for the duplexed CA 57/CA 60 interchanges out in Diamond Bar, as it has a relatively high accident rate due to all the merging and high traffic volume issues through there.
InterstateJD : Definitely fun to drive...not quite what someone would have expected, if they hadn't visited Fresno before. CA 180, in particular, is now a joy to drive with those braided ramps.
Freewayjim : Oh man. I'm still responding to comments on this video, like 2+ months later, lol. It'd be nice to see your take on Fresno's freeway system, but I know you'll be short on time.
CA just can't seem to get it's act together regarding exit numbers on the BSG's. It's almost a "flavor of the mile" kind of thing. Fresno has a more extensive freeway system than here,(Baton Rouge) which is the capitol of Louisiana and has a metro population of approximately 700K.
CalTrans and the federal government should try to find a way to extend Interstate 70 from Utah out and over to Fresno, which could make Interstate 70 Fresno's first Interstate. A good connector line for I-70 should be the Sierra Freeway (CA-168).
+Vinny Lazar (Vinny28): That would be a very nice extension of the Interstate Highway System, but I don't think it would receive much traffic, and there's a lot of other transportation needs that could use funding. CA 168 would have been awesome, if it had been completed to connect to its eastern stub.
The Sierras are very steep and rugged, as opposed to the Rockies and would be extremely costly and difficult to build an interstate across them, not to mention the environmental impacts.
Outstanding work! That was great! the music just fit perfectly in the video! Your signs are always impressive and I also really like how you put some on Facebook!
I'm surprised to see the new, wider/rectangular design for exit numbering along SR-41. I always thought CalTrans favored the square signage for exit numbering. Is this a new thing for CalTrans, or is this exclusive to the Fresno area?
EpikFilmz11 :: That came across to me as a surprise too, the first time I saw the rectangular exit signs about a year ago along Highway 99. So far, Caltrans District 6 is "embracing" the rectangular exit signs, as they're popping up everywhere along their freeways. I've also seen them recently installed on Highway 101, where the former 4 lane expressway between Salinas to San Juan Bautista was recently improved to a quasi-freeway corridor.
Thank you for this Brent. I have been waiting for this. People are used to it now and it is pretty cool. Now if only then can fix the McKinley offramp area. It has the 180 E and W bound coming together and it still jams up there with people crossing over to get off from the 41 N to McKinley offramp. Again thank you for this.
J.R. Taylor : Oh yeah, the McKinley offramp definitely needs an overhaul. Sorry, I saw your comment earlier, but I've been so busy with work and my social life. I'm trying to respond to comments during the wee hours of this Friday morning. Thanks for dropping by and commenting!
Heck yeah...the transition between Highways 41, 180 and 168 is like the driving equivalent of being in a candy store, lol. Ultimately, I'd like to do a video, showcasing all the connections through the braided ramps.
Thank you. :-) I sure hope so. It looks like I'm driving out to Austin in May for a wedding, so I should be able to film footage in Tucson, El Paso and Austin...and maybe Dallas/Ft. Worth, Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, plus areas in between all of the cities I mentioned above.
It is definitely extensive. Really, the only "gap" in the system is the lack of a east-west freeway in the northern parts of the city. Herndon Avenue currently serves as the de facto high-speed route in that part of town, but it has a number of traffic lights. I truly love those braided ramps Caltrans added along CA 180, between CA 41 and CA 168. The freeway portions of CA 180 will be extended both east and west by a few dozen miles in the coming years ahead.
I have been trying to get someone to film Fresno for some time because of the new braided ramps and the two 4-level stacks within 1¼ miles! Great job, FreewayBrent! Now, go ahead and do the 360º on the 180!
+Walter Saul : Hey there, Walter. Thanks for dropping by, dude! The new braided ramps section is pretty darn awesome...certainly unique within the state of California. I have the footage for the 360 tour...I'm just so busy with my work and social life, that it doesn't leave me much time to work on my videos these days. I'm generally releasing 1 video every 4 - 6 weeks...my last 5 videos have been from my May 2015 road trip (El Paso, Tucson and Wichita).
I watched those! El Paso was terrific, and I loved the other two as well. I may need to view Tucson one more time. I still cannot believe US 400. Let me know when the 360º is online! Thanks!
+Eric Colvin : You should head to North Echo Avenue, next time you're in town. One of the slickest artisan coffee houses in the entire state of California just opened there (Kuppa Joy), and there's also an artisan ice cream shop and a couple of tasty restaurants that are all relatively new as well.
+Kristy Warner : Lol....video made you just a little bit confused, with all the transitions? None of these freeways were more than 10 kilometers away from each end.
Probably not. That's a first-of-its-kind project for Caltrans, implemented primarily because of the high traffic volumes in that area (about 170,000 vehicles per day), and the fact that 2 separate freeways intersect with CA 180 in only a 1 1/4 mile span. It makes for a very fun driving experience!
