I only have two blades for my Rage5S. The original evolution combination blade and a Bosch 60T full kerf blade. The Bosch is my main blade and a great all rounder. I have learnt that running melamine chipboard through a first pass with the blade at 3mm then a second pass to complete the cut produces perfect results. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺

For melamine I just use tape in, quick and easy. But yes first shallow pass will give good results.

I bought a Trend blade last week. Cuts like the wood was warm butter. So much nicer that the Saxton i had.

It's a good quality blade for a still reasonable price

Always interesting to see blade comparisons, thanks for taking the time to do this comparison 👍 I just recently bought the Trend triple pack of blades for my Rage5S, 48T/60T/80T for £36 delivered ... for that price can't complain ... far superior to the supplied blade as they are thicker and don't flex as much.

Glad you liked the video. I think these Trend blades are at very decent quality plus at a reasonable price

Interesting, indeed. Due to the high T-content, both blades are mainly for quality cuts. I suspect, that zero clearance plate was made slightly wider by the Trend blade, hence Freud has some tear out on the back. On the other hand - many of us just tape or sandwich the piece for the cut.
@CasualDIY

In normal circumstances I would also tape the melamine board for best results.

Tomasz, nice video with some interesting comparisons. Good test for future reference. It would be interesting to see what the results would have been with masking tape applied. Cheers, from a cool UK.

Hi Tomas Nice and very useful video. I have a Rage 5S too. I am sorry if my question is very far away from a professional one😅, but how do you manage to use these blades in a Evolution saw when the bore is different 25,4 vs 30? As far as I know it's not very safety to use a bore adapter... Thanks a lot and keep it up 👍

If you get a nice snug reducing ring then there wont be any issues - as long as you install it correctly. I bought a set of reducing rings from Bosch and they are great. Been using them for years now with no issues at all.

Your Evolution saws spin slower than dedicated wood saws. I wonder how that may effect performance.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Год назад
Good question🤔 However I don't think it's that much different. When I get a "normal" table saw then I will do that test for sure.
@sally6457

Both blades are excellent quality, I personally prefer Freud blades. Thus isn't a good representation of the quality of the blades, but it does demonstrate the need to set up and calibrate your machine whenever you change blades, And how not to use a sliding mitre saw.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Год назад
Personally I prefer Saxton 😅 but that's mainly due to price, however Trend is quite cheap as well. How would you conclude a test of blades?
@sally6457
@sally6457 Год назад
@Casual DIY longevity, the amount of residue stuck to the blade and clogging the gussets, checking for warping and trueness of the bade when new, and again after repeated use, including temperature measurements and heat dissipation times, Then the question of weather the blade could be sharpened?
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Год назад
@@sally6457 interesting questions however some of them may not hit with most of my audience as I'm in most cases testing budget blades up to £30. Those very detail tests would make sense for high end expensive blades. For what I present that would be an overkill I think. However I'm taking the feedback on board and my next blade comparison video will have most of that information 👍thank you

Perhaps it would be interesting to do a scoring cut on both machines and all the materials. I think you would find that both machines would have far less chip out.

I do have an upcoming video on how to cut melamine or laminated boards. This video was to see how the blades would perform on cutting these materials in the most straight forward way.

Czesc Tomasz, I'm trying to settle on 3 blades, 24T FTG, 40T ATB+R and 80T ATB. However it does seem like no vendor has the 40T ATB+R or better known as combination/general purpose blade. Have you seen them?
@CasualDIY

I think Trend has one 🤔
@pama1
@pama1 Год назад
@@CasualDIYYes, seen the Trend 60T ATB+R, but 60T for ripping may lead to scorching in my opinion. Will continue to search for the 40T variant.
