Good video of Mattias’ foray into campfire Dutch Oven cooking. It appears to be the beginning of a worthy addiction in another method of cooking good, hearty meals. Thank you for allowing subs to follow along. All the Best!
Thanks for Your insightful comments earlier on the Dutch Oven, heat control and cook time control. The idea of getting a smaller one as well seems like a good idea that Bibbi also came up with. This for side dishes or deserts. We are already planning for the next outdoor dinner 😂.
Mattias, a suggestion: try fish stew using fish freshly caught. 😉😁 As to what fish? You’d have to see what is locally available - whether freshwater or salt water. I’d follow Bibbi’s advice on this.
@@hsaurid 😂 I better do... I made a video before on cook moules mariniéres outdoors. Bibbi loved that and have ordered this the dutch oven way, so fur sure there will be a try on that. We like that on van trips but seldom do it at home. Bibbi makes a wonderful fish stew though so I might borrow her recipe ☝️😁🔥.
Skål Tjommi.... I'm really glad to see you enjoy the Humlepung 👏🏻 It is one of many amazing ciders here on the west coast of Norway. I think I need to put together a bigger batch of variated bottles for you two to try 😃 Haha, almost got a little moved myself when you read up the letter. It has really been a tough last year, and the way you have inspired, motivated and shared so much of your knowledge, adventures and always positive mind. Has inspired and motivated me to try new things, become better at the things that I like and found much more enjoyment in the smaller things in life. So you keep on rocking, keep on adventuring and share your many adventures. I'm really thankful for letting me get to know you and becoming your friend. And, that petromax stove looked amazing. I'm not sure how long you cooked the meat? I probably missed that part. See you soon
Tusen tack själv Tjommi! The Humlepung viking champagne was great for this evening and the spoon you carved will serve ell in our van. Thats why we are here, the we're not on adventures we search for them and experience them from each other. We planned to meet up last year but the pandemic get in our way. But our common paths are still out there and we will enjoy the trails together Tjommi some day. We plan for Norway this year as well and see how it works out when it's time. As well as I plan to take a spontaneous trip as soon as possible on the bike. Need an advride now 💪🤠🔥. Well I cooked that chicken for ca 70 min. Practice makes perfect on the dutch oven, new to me way of cooking.
Thanks, that sounds like a good practice. I will definitely do more cooking with this dutch oven. Liked it very much and think it have it's place in our type of camp outs with the van.
Hi Mattias, definitely one of your best videos so far with or without the bike, in my humble opinion, you are a man of many talents- cooking, riding, and making wonderful videos! So you totally deserve the life you're living. I was amazed by how you treat your dog, and the gift from tshansen, its priceless. All the best from New York!
Ooh, thanks for Your kind words my friend! It's really great to get out on the bike for ADV's and qualitytime as well as it is to togeather with the van. Both on cultural trips or just to get outdoors like this time. I badly need to pack up the bike for a few days trip in to the woods, great weather this week but suddenly we got wintertime again (typical April weather). Thomas gifts was amazing and the letter i found when opening the box moved me alot, was not prepared for this so this become as live as it could be. Konrad lays here beside me in the sofa and wonder when we're out on next adventure. He's 10 years and have been with us around all Europe on different trips, he loves RV trips. Amazing to reach out to NY. Would be nice to see adventures from your surrounding. Been in New Jersey and Manhattan quickly on a couple of days off on a business trip years ago. Actually by accident i got the extra day to explore. Happy trails!
Hehe, that correct I could afford the weight of this outdoor cooking gear. The Weber stayed at home, but has it's place on trips where open fire is not an option. As one guy said, it's addictive to cook with it. Happy Trails Klas!
Mattias i´m a big fan of your videos! I like the nice athmosphare and the way you do it. Big thumbs up and i hope, the weather turns to perfekt motorcycle-conditions soon! Greetings from Southern Germany!
Thanks my friend! You bet i'm eager to get out into the wild with the beast! Just throttle away and have fun, work out on trails and rins the mind. Beast therapy!
@@Braapncamp I believe you immediately! If I have handed in my master's thesis this summer I'm also back in Sweden on the TET and the TST, with the tent and the gas stove on my Tenere. Have a nice evening!
Great video, great gift from Thomas, chicken looks delicious for a 1st attempt. A bit more beer next time maybe, never a bad thing hehe, or remove and make a delicious gravy in the pot with the juices left over. Over here cooking outdoors in these types of pots is a national pastime, we call it 'Potjiekos'. Typically 3 leg pots but traditional dutch ovens also very popular. Great to bake fresh bread as well, particularly beer bread. Good coffee and freshly baked bread for in the middle of nowhere for breakfast really soothes the soul. I spent my day at a desk :( Anyway, enjoy and thanks for the video.
Thanks buddy, isn't this interesting, today dudes cook in the woods with dutch oven and think it's cool. While our grandmothers used this "gjutjärnsgryta" or "trebening" for their everyday cooking for the families. 😂 I will try bread as well and alot of other stuff.
@@Braapncamp Indeed, here though, with strong Dutch ancestral roots the use of these pots is still very common place. I look forward to more cooks, hearty stews and of course some fresh bread. So many recipes out there, the South African ones are the best, but then I am biased that way hehe.
Thanks Mattias, another simple but really interesting video. Nice to see your reaction when you read the letter! I knew very little about Scandinavia before lockdown happened in the UK last year, but thanks to you, Tomas Hansen, Robert@Nomad Sweden and Kenneth@Ride the Bean I've been both entertained and educated over the last year. Both Norway and Sweden are now definitely on my list to visit by bike when covid is properly over and travel can happen again.
Thanks my friend! When finding Thomas letter and reafmding it to You it is as live as i could be. I cut out 10 min of reaction and sensitive talk from my side at that scene. Stay Wild and give us a hint when you are on our trails. 💪❤
Cooked with Dutch ovens all my life. Fix biscuits or dumplings on top of the food. Great way to fix meals especially over open fire. They hung in fireplaces of the early settlers as the main cooking fixture. We use the Lodge brand mainly in USA. Need a sidecar to take it motorcycle camping. I saw the vid where you Robert and TS met. Great to have common friends. This medium has opened up a whole new world, only late in life. Like your dog. What is it?
Love that Dutch Oven! It so versatile. My grandfsthers grew up with cast iron pots with "tree foot" or three legs as stand over the indoor fire pits glow bed. I have tried to make bread in the DO this fall, as you mentioned, not potatobread but more like a farmer bread. Worked great 👌 We have made steaks, moose stews, ratatouilles, pancakes and basicly everything. Just love it at it is always in the van.
It was really tasty Jonas, especially the onions in the bottom. Bibbi liked the potatoes best. It take some learning curve to make DU cooking perfect but at the same time it's also very basic. At breakfast I made "fläskpannkaka" I will upload that part as well. 😁👌Thanks for joining the premiere and the chat, always fun!
@@Braapncamp I have tested a variation of Dutch oven cooked food in Bosnia for long time ago. It was a home made Dutch styled oven made of sheet metal, not cast iron. It was a really hot summer evening and I got headache for almost two days afterwards. Maybe it wasn’t the food that I got the headache from it may have been the “jelen pivo” and the “rakia” 😂
@Joones Adventures MC 😂😂 You must try! Worst thing is when you have been on a great Yugo party with dance and everything, brutal hangover the day after and you use the window washer... that smells the same, in a second the hangover doubles 👀😅💪
Pretty cool and looks like you guys had a great time. But as a hiker, I must say it is a bit sad to see nature littered with old fire pits everywhere. Whenever I pass by a nice spot on the trail... There is an old campfire and often bits of cracked bedrock. Better keep the campfires for designated places.
Thanks Pete, I agree on the ones that are spread out at random places, ot when new ones are made even if there allready is a nice fireplace. At the same time I appreciate places like this with a dedicated fireplace to use and habe a great time by the lake.
Thanks NM much appreciated, I could imagine that this is annoying. I got myself YT premium a couple of years ago and no regret. I actually don't like the interruptions myself, but this is the only way I get something back in this hobby. Happy trails!
