According to Frida this is the song she loves most after her ABBA breakup. Now I can't believe that I've found this Promo video after years of searching. This is my tribute and present to all Frida and ABBA fans. Enjoy!
SHINE - it's time to rediscover this amazing album. As much art, not understood in its present. But today almost 40 years later, it sounds better and more relevant than ever, and Frida's vocals completely freed of any restrains - it's a fascinating album.
Frida had a much more interesting career than the other members from the group. She fought the 80´s very proudly with this album, a hard step getting away from soft pop songs, thou she didn' reach the charts top, this still sounds great
Although Stikkan ( for short ABBA's manager) didn't liked it, BRAVO FRIDA!!! An amazing ahead of its time punky new wave acid record, acid even because it's miles distant of an abba memory, reminds me what was she thinking of here in a period where not even Cyndi Lauper or Madonna would have made that ; a revolution of her own probably. this piece of art with colaborations by the bassist Tony Levin of King Crimson and the production of an Ultravox, Big Country and u2 Steve Lillywhite 's sounds better than ever.let's continue enjoying Frida!
Innovative... Ahead of her time, always . Anni Frid could sing anything, and always looked beautiful doing it . Her gifts to us limitless..Thanks for sharing.. lange lange leve karleken❤
I do love this song. Awesome powerful performance by Frida plus those 'Burundi drums' (anyone remember that?), not to mention bass lines by the great Tony Levin... FANTASTIC!, if you ask me. On the other hand I understand this thing should sound like a tough nut to crack for an average ABBA fan ;)
hatfire: i know what it feels like when you search for a song or video for years and then u find it...it almost drives you crazy! thanks for sharing....im a die-hard fan of Abba and each of them indiviudually too.
I highly disagree, the album Shine in total has amazing tracks, The Face is one song that should have been made a single and I think of Frida had done another album in the 80s it would have been just as good and maybe different to the other two because Shine has something over Something's Going On
this song although released as a single in some countries would never have been a hit in the u.s. it is the weirdest and strangest song she has ever recorded. i give her credit for singing this, track from her album shine which has much better songs on it
I am reminded of Olivia's Carried Away video and also her Soul Kiss video. Bette Midler did the writhing on the floor thing with Beast Of Burden. Madonna would continue the theme with her Like A Virgin performance.
This was not too bad actually. Not as ground breaking as what she did together with ABBA ofcourse, but I can't understand why she didn't succeed more as Frida. Maybe ABBA was both her blessing and curse. In a way it's understandable that she will always be associated with the group. This song is not as good at "Something going on" though.
New wave arrived the bleak seventies of a world at war and identity in radical health, gave way to a liberaton new wave in popular music. There was little left for abba until the blande 70s retro in the 90s. Great music though collected and wonderful recordings of European retro chic and pashionate women of identiy in anything from sexual pashion to conflicts of late modernity. Look forward to Agnetha's new look, a nice things in anniversary for fans all around the world. xx xx
