Hi,, I have a 6-904 & 8-904 redington single handed fly rods, I’ve been using chopper up skagit heads 15-20ft, the 6wt I’m using a 270g with 10ft floating tip & 6 ft of mono,, ( 20lb to 8lbs ) leader with a light woolly bugger, 320g for the 8wt with mono running line,, both heads seems to crash in the water sometimes,, using it on hatchery fish and sea run fish off Atlantic Canada,, shad, sea trout should I use a tapper leader or make my own,, could be to light to turn over the fly 🤷🏼♂️,, any ideas would help,, thanks and awesome videos 🐟 John C
I bought the OPST smooth integrated skagit line 150gr last September, unreal I use it for everything from swinging ,nymphing,to dry fly, hardly used another line for trout since I got it,as youse young guys say it is sick.only goes up to 300gr, I see scientific anglers goes up to 420gr I think, fancy trying that for grilse, your videos are great to watch, keep up the good work.
Can i ask a question. I’m yet to catch a trout on this method. So The skagit head is not a sinking line but a line to turn over an attached separate sinking 10foot line? I have a sci angler line on my 7# which is a floating rear with a full sink 15 foot tip 300 grain I think, is this essentially the same thing but lest versatile in terms of depth control? Thanks mate.
Do these differ to the Polyleaders we get in the UK.? They c ome in 5,8,10 and 14 foot lengths again various sink rates from floating and hover (just sub-surface) through to Extra Superfast (just over 6"/sec) with 7 in the range available. if i use them i have a tippet ring attached to core line at the end of the polyleader so can attach differnt tippet as required without losing length on the polyleader.
